Bob, for comparison, I used a 30" x 24" grill for AO-40. I found that
moving the dish +/- one "click" on my controller (10 degrees) would make
a just-audible difference in the received signal strength. So, I figure
10 degrees is the 3db beam width, not good enough, apparently, for the
ISS TV...

used a 4 foot primestar dish (heavy) with the same feed and dc.

You know, now that I think about it, I do recall the message about the
mailing labels. It was said we should get the Journal, but the name would be
different.

Fact is I haven't gotten my copy.

Were they mailed or was the mailing agent fixing the problem??

My copy arrived last week. Usually, I get mine about a week or two
after many American hams report receiving theirs, though that might
be because I live in Canada.

My mailing label was correct, so maybe the problem was fixed by the
time my copy was put into the post.

I was one ham's first satellite contact two nights ago on FO-29 and I
was almost a ham's first satellite contact this evening on VO-52.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done. Plus, I haven't been on the
birds for very long myself.

Can anyone confirm if all ISS transmissions from the Russian Service Module
are now using the new
Kenwood TM-D710 which was sent up to replace the D700 ?

I missed any mention of the new rig being commissioned.

Hello,?
I know?TM-D710 not replace the D700 but it is used for SSTV MAI-75 Experiment.
D710 does not have the microphone but it is connected directly to the SSTV
system.
D700 mic isn't compatible with D710.
D700 is used for contact with school in Russia.
Anyone has any other news?

Message-ID: <52299D2F.3030409@xxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Happened to be up very late, trying to finish some work. My computer
alerted me that SO-50 was rising, and even though it was 4AM, I thought
I'd take a chance that someone might be on the bird.

All efforts to raise the bird failed, even though it was a very high
elevation pass. I realized that the bird had "timed out" and needed to
be activated. Not something I was used to thinking about considering how
busy SO-50 usually is. I searched in vain to try to figure out how
SATPC32 was setting the 67.0 Hz PL tone. I figured I could modify that
setting to make it transmit 74.4 Hz instead. But no joy.

I know this can be set in the rig's menu, but I'd rather have a separate
setting in SATPC32 for those rare passes when SO-50 is silent. Can
someone walk me through how to edit the necessary file(s) and set this
up? Thanks in advance from a night owl!

Hi Les,

You have to configure/check the SubTone.sqf file and then when this is
setup
you can use the T0/T1/T2 option within SatPC32. Default behaviour is T0
no tone
T1 is normal TX behaviour and T2 arm the SO-50 timer.

Here some information from the SatPC32 Manual:

Files which can be opened by the SatPC32 '?' menu
The following files can only be edited manually. They can be opened in
the SatPC32 '?' menu with the SatPC32 built-in editor or with Notepad:

Doppler.SQF,
Squint.SQF,
Prior.SQF,
ParPort.SQF,
Program.SQF,
Standpos.SQF,
SatFiles.SQF,
DivOptions.SQF,
SubTone.SQF,
AmsatNames.Txt,
Celestrak.SQF

SubTone.SQF This file contains the names and parameters of satellites
that require a subaudible tone on the uplink signal for access. At
present, the only satellites of this kind are SO-50 and AO-51. The file
itself contains detailed hints how to be used.

Good luck

Hmmm, my July/August AMSAT Journal has not arrived either (even with
the wrong name). Martha at the AMSAT Office handles
circulation/mailing issues and she is our interface with vendors and
contractors like the print shop.

I've let her know that so far we're missing issues for K9JKM, K7TEJ,
and W5AOO. If others are missing please let Martha know.

Hello Les,
with the settings that come with the SatPC32 12.8b setup file you can switch
on the 67.0 Hz and the 74.4 Hz sub tones
of the IC-910H. While tracking SO-50 click the SatPC32 "T" control (in the
uppler left part of the SatPC32 main window) to "T1". That will switch on
the 67.0 tone. Click "T2", that will switch on the 74.4 Hz tone. Clicking to
"T0" will switch off the tone.
Important: I suppose you have the American version of the IC-910H. So, make
sure that you have installed the English program version for AMERICAN
users!. The European English program version doesn't set the tone
frequencies of the American version of the IC-910H, because the tone
frequency setting commands are different.

The program stores the sub tone frequencies in "SubTone.SQF" in the SatPC32
data folder. The file contains already the necessary settings for SO-50.

Explain "one click at a time"

A rotor such as the Yeasu G5500 is a must.
A "step" rotor (moves X degs at a time) just is not that good for a
moving target.

I have a great deal of experience with mailing bulk mail and I know the
delivery can vary tremendously. My post office is also not consistent in
how they "police" my PO box. I have had them refuse mail addressed to
someone other than myself. By someoneelse, I mean the last name is
correct but not the first. This happens about once a year and then they
continue to fill the box with mail addressed to people I have never
heard of.

I will patiently wait for the Journal as it still might show up in the
box some day. I dearly love all of my Amateur Radio Publications that I
receive. The AMSAT Journal is my number one, followed by
RadCom(RSGB-Excellent Publication!), QST, CQ, and a few others. I
sincerely appreciate the efforts of those involved with the publication
of the AMSAT Journal. The average reader probably does not have a clue
how difficult it is to produce a publication like the AMSAT Journal.
The actual placement of articles in the publication is a simple task
compared to actually obtaining the article. Those who have written
articles need plenty of applause too!

I guess I am "old school" but there is something about the paper copy of
a publication that a computer cannot replace. My iPad will never feel
like paper and I sure have a great deal of difficulty making notes on
what I read on my iPad, notebooks, or large monitor. There is nothing
like going back to an old publication that is dog eared, coffee stained,
and full of notes and phone numbers. These artifacts all bring back
fond memories of contacts, projects, and friends.

I've had similar experiences with Canada Post. Fortunately, such
problems don't arise often.

You should see my place. I've got quite a collection of scientific
and technical publications, some going back to the 1970s. Those I
haven't been able to read yet go into a "round tuit" pile and I've got
several of them now. My floor makes a good bookshelf, hi.

Hello,
is there anybody on the list using an IC-820H with SatPC32, V. 12.8b?
I don't have that radio and can't test it. A user of the IC-820H has an
issue with the program.?The program sets the initial frequencies when he
selects a satellite but doesn't update the frequencies for Doppler
corrrection (he decreased the intervals in menu CAT already to 10 Hz).

Many thanks for answers.
