Ebay has this posted:
"In a reversal of an earlier ban, USPS? has announced it will once again
allow specific quantities of lithium-ion batteries to be shipped
internationally when installed in the items they?re intended to operate.
This reinstatement, effective immediately, also includes APO, FPO, and DPO
locations around the world.
With the holiday season fast approaching, this is great news for sellers who
ship internationally that offer popular gift items like video cameras,
walkie-talkies, GPS devices, radio-controlled toys, cameras, MP3 players,
laptops, electric shavers, power drills, tablets/iPads, and portable DVD
players.
If you switched to a different shipping carrier due to the earlier ban on
these items, you can edit your current listings in bulk by taking advantage
of these tips and tools."

DMM Revision: Mailings of Lithium Batteries
Effective May 16, 2012, the Postal Service? will revise Mailing Standards of
the
United States Postal Service,Domestic Mail Manual (DMM?) section 601.10.20 to
codify that primary lithium metal or lithium alloy (nonrechargeable) cells and
batteries or secondary lithium-ion cells and bat?teries (rechargeable) are
prohibited when mailed interna?tionally or to and from an APO, FPO, or DPO
location. However, this prohibition does not apply to lithium batter?ies
authorized under DMM 601.10.20 when mailed within the United States or its
territories.
International standards have recently been the subject of discussion by the
International Civil Aviation Organiza?tion (ICAO) and the Universal Postal
Union
(UPU), and the Postal Service anticipates that on January 1, 2013, cus?tomers
will be able to mail specific quantities of lithium bat?teries internationally
(including to and from an APO, FPO, or DPO location) when the batteries are
properly installed in the personal electronic devices they are intended to
operate."
So, for now, the ban only applies to international or APO/FPO/DPO locations.

All,
Flex has an interesting article on using two rigs for full duplex operations
using SATPC32.
http://support.flexradio.com/Downloads.aspx?fr=1
Look for: A Full-Duplex VHF-UHF Satellite System using FLEX radios
While some of the article is specific to Flex radios, there is an excellent
discussion of considerations for transverter LO frequencies which is
relevant to most rigs.

Let me get this straight:
Flex 1500 $650
Flex 3000 $1700
Plus transverters:
L144-28HP $480
L432-28HP $500
That's $3,330!!!!!
The info and concept might be good, but that's it.
Get a Funcube Dongle Pro+ (wish AMSAT NA would negotiate a deal with Howard
and sell them to raise funds) if you want a SDR receiver and an FT847,
TS2000, IC9100 and you are miles ahead.

Before you 'tee off' on anyone, Stefan, try reading the article. The first
paragraph sets forth the authors goal. He was not so much pushing the Flex
line, but rather his goal was to work with specific parameters and
equipment. The reality is that there just is not 'one best way' to do this
stuff.

PS Remember when FLEX made these BIIIGGGG promises at one of the AMSAT

worth it. Hope the AMSAT board remembers that the next time Flex shows up
with another promise....

NORAD said they made it:
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. ? North American Aerospace Defense
Command officials acknowledged today that U.S. missile warning systems
detected and tracked the launch of a North Korean missile at 7:49 p.m.
EST. The missile was tracked on a southerly azimuth. Initial indications
are that the first stage fell into the Yellow Sea. The second stage was
assessed to fall into the Philippine Sea. Initial indications are that
the missile deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit. At no
time was the missile or the resultant debris a threat to North America.

Just out of curiosity, when is the next US, Russian, European, Indian,
Chinese or Japanese 'missile' going to be launched, carrying a payload
into orbit?
