>> Mark Spencer, WA8SME, has just received the Excellence Award

>>
>> "The Yasme Excellence Award is awarded to individuals who through their

>> The Board of Directors of The Yasme Foundation is pleased to announce

I was just at the post office in Houston shipping a package to Florida
and they asked me there were any lithium batteries in the package. I
said no and asked why. The postal worker said they no longer take
packages with lithium batteries unless they are in a laptop or cell
phone. I asked what about in a radio and she said no. hmmmmm

Hi All,
A while back, an article about a FT-817 Satellite Control Interface was
published in QST. There were numerous requests for boards and kits on the
project. There is a small quantity of the boards and kits available but the
procurement information didn't make it in the original article.
The raw boards are available for $20, and a kit with the board, parts and
programmed PIC is available for $35. You can send an email to Debra Johnson
at ARRL HQ and order them from her (djohnson@xxxx.xxxx. The proceeds from
this effort is going back to AMSAT and the Fox birds, so anything above and
beyond these amounts (which are basically at cost) will go into space as
part of Fox.
Questions? Let me know mspencer@xxxx.xxx.
Thanks,
Mark

She doesn't have her facts straight...?
http://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2012/pb22336/html/updt_004.htm
"
DMM Revision: Mailings of Lithium Batteries
Effective May 16, 2012, the Postal Service? will revise Mailing Standards of
the
United States Postal Service,Domestic Mail Manual (DMM?) section 601.10.20 to
codify that primary lithium metal or lithium alloy (nonrechargeable) cells and
batteries or secondary lithium-ion cells and bat?teries (rechargeable) are
prohibited when mailed interna?tionally or to and from an APO, FPO, or DPO
location. However, this prohibition does not apply to lithium batter?ies
authorized under DMM 601.10.20 when mailed within the United States or its
territories.
International standards have recently been the subject of discussion by the
International Civil Aviation Organiza?tion (ICAO) and the Universal Postal
Union
(UPU), and the Postal Service anticipates that on January 1, 2013, cus?tomers
will be able to mail specific quantities of lithium bat?teries internationally
(including to and from an APO, FPO, or DPO location) when the batteries are
properly installed in the personal electronic devices they are intended to
operate."
So, for now, the ban only applies to international or APO/FPO/DPO locations.
George, KA3HSW

As follow up--here are the precise details for ordering a FT-817
Sat-CAT kit or bare board!
It's a great board and solution for using a single radio with SSB satellites.
73,
Mark N8MH
_______
The satellite computer aided tuning interface described in October
2012 QST (pp. 40-43) for use with SatPC32 and the Yaesu FT-817 radio
is being offered for sale by the ARRL Education & Technology Program
(ETP). The interface was developed by Mark Spencer, WA8SME, as part of
resource development for the ARRL ETP and is priced to recover cost
plus a small increment toward development as well as a cost share
donation to AMSAT. The interface is fully described in the article
published in October 2012 QST on pp. 40-43.
You may order the board and programmed PIC for a cost of $20; to order
the full kit including all of the parts, the cost is $35.
To order please send the following either by mail or email as follows:
? Your name and shipping address
? Phone number and email address
? Item you are requesting
? Enclose a check for the appropriate amount, payable to ARRL ETP,
sent to attention of ARRL Education Services
Send orders to:
ARRL Education Services, ATTN: Amy Strickland
