ISS digipeater has been running on 145.800 MHz simplex for the past couple
of passes. So if you don't copy anything on 145.825 try 145.800. It was
lonely for a mid-continent prime time pass.

Hi!

Thanks again to all the hams who have been sending me checks to help
with the effort to bring Hector to the AMSAT Symposium later this week.
As of today, I have received a total of $935 from those checks. This
will cover almost half of what I estimate the total costs will end up
being for this effort, and I appreciate the help. I told Hector about
this via e-mail earlier today, and he also appreciates the generosity
of everyone who is helping with this trip.

Hector will fly to Miami on Wednesday, arriving a couple of hours
before I arrive later in the afternoon. Hector has a friend in Miami
who will meet him in the Miami airport after clearing US Customs and
Immigration, and then I'll get with him after I arrive. The current
plan is for the two of us to drive up from Miami to Orlando on
Thursday morning, arriving in Orlando around midday depending on when
we get out of the Miami area. Hector will be at the Symposium all
weekend, and also take the KSC tour next Monday (10/29). His flight
home is next Wednesday (10/31), so we will return to Miami either
after the KSC tour Monday evening or early Tuesday morning, so he
has more time to spend with his friends down there before his flight
home.

Thanks again for all the support - and not just those sending me
checks. I have received lots of e-mails, and also seen posts on
other public forums, with good words about this effort. Seeing
Hector in person later this week will make this worth all the time
and money spent over the past 7 months. :-)

73!

Hello Ted,

ISS digi is back on their usual 145.825 MHz frequency now. I just heard them
and had a packet QSO via .825 at 2100 UTC today over USA. There will be a
few more USA passes coming up this afternoon/evening.

I check http://issfanclub.com ... on the right side of the page is a status
listing of their various frequencies, such as 'last heard', etc.

Hello OM

I am not sure how you got what you said from my one paragraph about 2 meter
gear...but I can put you at ease in that most of what you are saying I would
agree with...my point however for the "average" ham I stick by.

We do use 10ghz here a bit...all our repeaters are controlled or cross
linked by either a 3 or 13 centimeter link. Robert WB5MZO

And where on the planet might this "local" event be? A balloon can have a
range of 400 miles or so. Lots of us can watch if we know what part of
the planet this might be in...

Hi all

I just wanted to share my excitement that I worked NO-44 at 14:47 today,
10/23, with my Yaesu VX8DR HT with a five element Elk, for the first time.
I have been trying for awhile and didn't expect much in the way of results.

Now, I can proceed to jump around my living room.

Took me a long time to get that one also, good for you! I got it just
recently also. You know it would be a LOT easyer to work if there werent so
many LAZY BEACONS on 145.825 which basicly have killed NO-44 to the point
where two way Qso is impossible and a short raw packet alone is as you have
seen pretty hard to do.

Anyway glad to see someone else is actually trying and not setting there
BEACONS and walking away from their station....:)

etc)

Note that I am firmly in the camp of wishing for linear transponders on any
bird that we manage to fly. The accomplishments of PE1RAH prove that even a
tiny cubesat can physically support a linear transponder, not just an FM
single-channel transponder. (See
http://www.scribd.com/doc/59006469/le005-r2 ) And I am firmly in the camp
of wishing for HEO satellites if we can ever manage to get one launched
again. Too bad that Bill Gates (or someone with almost as much money as
him) isn't a ham interested in satellite communication.

Just want to set the record straight about the utility of the higher bands.

Hi, W0JT

I agree with you particularly if a radio ham is able to build and not only
to buy his own microwave equipments and antennas in order to experiment
into the X band K band and higher bands and this is why a HEO satellite
with microwave linear transponders is ideal for the serious experimenter
ham.

To bad that I was not able to use my 10450-10452 MHz homebrewed
downconverter and 60 cm dish on the X band transponder of AO40 because
it never was activated because of the onboard explosion and fault of it.

I hope that some day in the future I can use my above X band set up if
the AMSAT-DL will be able to signe a launch contract for P3E because
actually the above setup been not working into the tropo DX frequency
segment is good only for me to receive the Sun-Noise time to time.
