As it was explained to me, the altimeter is the _primary_ way he will deploy
the chutes. He wants back up control for the chutes as well as some sort of
contingency steering or chute release in the event the wind carries the rocket
out of range. He has had one hang up on high power lines already so I suppose
a cable release for the chute might be a good application.

Bottom line is that he is looking for a data control platform that will
accommodate receiving ground originated control messages. Any ideas??

Not to mention that it would be darned near impossible to be able to
ascertain when apogee occurs with even a medium sized rocket at one mile high
- and I know that I wouldn't want to deploy my mains after my rocket has had a
thousand or more feet of altitude loss from apogee - instant shred!

I'm still trying to get use to converting UTC to local time and with the
upcoming change to Daylight Saving Time it is only going to get worse.

Is there a prediction program that prints pass predictions with both local
and UTC time?

I guess I could download a few and try them out, but I thought I would ask
here first.

Winorbit can be set to print both utc and local.

Pass predictions for some birds don't even need a PC. Once you
run a few, very clear patterns develop. The times for AO-51
repeat every 5 days. So all you need to do is print out a small
list of times for 5 days and then it repeats over and over for
the next month or so. Makes mobile operation trivial without
needing a PC..

See the table on my web page:
http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/GO32-ops.html

GO-32 repeats every 9 dys. Again, a simple list of 9 times on
your dash board and you have everything you need to track for a
few months. Never need a PC.

ISS repeats the same pattern every other day, but moves
something like 22 minutes earlier each day. Remember, HAMS have
been doing satellites for over 45 years and we have only been
using "tracking programs" for about 18... So, once you get
familiar with the birds you want to work, no need to become a
slave to the PC..

Orbitron does a nice job of this. will display realtime or simulation
in local or utc.

Orbitron, indeed!

Not only is it easy to set up, but it runs on everything from slow Pentium
MMXs and Windows 98 to Linux Boxes with the WINE emulator.

Thanks to all who have responded.

I am currently using Orbitron. I guess my OP wasn't very clear. What I'm
looking for is something that will print predictions with *BOTH* UTC and
local time printed on the same page.

Is AO-7 active?
If so are the modes still the same as before?
I have listened for this bird and have not heard anything at all.

Just a quick report on AO16 from the UK, plenty of activity but with
increasing levels of QRM and transponder hogging etc.
However have managed to work the following countries in the last month or so
F6,HB9,OZ1,CU2,VE3,IZ8,EA3,OT2,G3,HA6,OE3,DK3,RW3,SP1,UR5,PH7,KA1,EA8,MM0,MW3,
GJ6,
SV6,SM5,OY4 & UA9 that 25 countries in 4 continents i.e. Europe,NA,Africa &
Asia
Mostly I run 5-10w into a 6 el Quad but at times have to go up to 20w to cut
through the QRM.Regards Robert G8ATE

I have a Yaesu 5400 AZ/EL and am wanting to control it from a weather
Satellite
program called Wxtoimg. I have a list of controllers that Wxtoimg will use:

CX6DD, DL7AOT, EASYCOMM, GS-232A, LVBTracker, RC2800, ROT2Prog, SAEBRTrack,
SatDrive, and SATTracker JR.

Which one would be closest to a FodTrack controller if any?

AO-07 was working fine on mode A during it's 16:20z pass over the Western
US. I called CQ on cw for most of the pass and heard my downlink loud and
clear. No QSO's, but the satellite works fine.

Fred,

AO-7 is indeed active when it's illuminated by the sun. It currently
switches between Mode A and Mode B on a 24hr timer. The mode change has
been occurring at around 0148z . To check the activity of this Grand Old
Bird visit the log at http://www.planetemily.com/ao7/ao7log.php

Hope to see you on Oscar 7.

IIRC, FODTrack will work with the Easycomm protocol.
