It looks like it's been bumped to 03:12 UTC on July 13th.

Hello all,

The trip up to EL93 was uneventful!

18 stations were worked on the AO-27 1828z pass and 5 more were worked on
the low elevation western pass at 2009z.

All contacts will be uploaded to LOTW (using CO6CBF). Anyone who needs a
QSL card, please request it to George, WA5KBH.

Thanks to everyone who worked me and then stood by when others were calling
me!!!

73!

Hector, CO6CBF

Apologies to all for not having K2J up on the sats. Multiple problems
now, hopefully, resolved. Look for me starting 4July on AO-27 / SO-50 /
AO-7 and VO-52.

It was back on 7/30/01 that I made a trip over to the Beaumont and found
a cemetery that just happened to have a road that split EL39/EM30. I am
thinking of heading over there again. Is there anyone that needs the two
grids before I decide when to make the trip? I will have to use my HT
and Arrow. That means FM sats.

Hi Joel,

Well, sort of. FODTrack has two different Az/EL rotor interfaces which
you can choose from. One uses a parallel port, and talks to a bit of
custom analog hardware to directly sense the rotor position and turn
on/off the motors. The other uses the serial port, and was intended to
be used with the Yaesu controller of the day. What I did was to build my
own controller that emulated enough of the Yaesu serial protocol for the
FODTrack software to talk to it via the serial port. So, I wasn't using
the analog FODTrack controller board hardware at all.

A fundamental decision that needs to be made early on is what type of
feedback your rotors give. There are two kinds - analog (potentiometer),
and digital (index switch). The analog type can be controlled much more
precisely, but the interface is more complicated. The digital types
(which are what I have), have a resolution of around 5-10 degrees.
Fortunately, 10 degrees is plenty accurate for most uses, so I went with
what I had. Others have added Pots to their digital rotors, and I
suppose one could add an index switch to an otherwise analog rotor too.
Just decide which way you want to go up front, then work out the rest
from there.

By the way, I've long ago retired the FODTrack software, and now use
Predict on my Linux box. I had to tweak the code a little (yea Open
Source!), to output the same Yaesu commands as what FODTrack spit out.
Alternatively I could have modified the controller. Either way, it's
still working great.

Good luck,

Greg KO6TH

I gather it's got a camera on-board.

Uplink is 145 MHz
Downlinks are 435 and 2400 MHz

Orbit 1350 km ?

The 7849km AO-7 world record set by AC0RA and I on July 2 lasted less than
48 hours.? Wyatt once again woke up early and this time drove 150 miles to
EN41ad.??We had a 30 second QSO at 0949Z to extend the record to 7903.55km.?
Thanks, Wyatt, this has been fun.

2.4 is specified as a radiolink freq. The cam is described as a
webcam. Says something about an ISS mission specialist. Wonder if it
is a real live 2.4 wifi device? Probably not something the average Joe
or Jane could receive from home. Woudl be impressive as heck to do it,
though.

I think the ISS reference is to the spacecraft manufacturing company of that
name http://www.iss-reshetnev.com/ rather than the space station.

I would imagine to stream lo-res video they'd ideally need a data rate of
around 115 kbps, WiFi would be over-kill for that. It could be achieved with
a signal occupying about a 100-150 kHz bandwidth which could be done on
either 435 MHz or 2400 MHz.

The document says command uplink in the Primary 145 MHz band with downlink
at 435 MHz but the reference to radiolink for 2400 MHz baffles me - link to
what ?

I've not had a chance to look any further other that finding document, there
may well be other papers on the satellite written by students/professors
somewhere on the web.

Basically I've no idea, I guess we might find out on the 13th.

I guess it is too much to hope for a transponder on any of the Russian
satellites these days. Such a shame as it is a great orbit.
