Hi,

Well, I am a big fat liar.

I do have a CAT radio, it is my FT-950.

Every 10 years I try to buy a really nice HF radio. I bought it last summer.
I practically put it in a box to move it across the room.

Since I can't diable the transmit, I decided to not use it.

My pegasus is shot. Really shot.

So, that leaves my TS-50.

Here is the actual point of this email.

Is there a way to use the Send on the tuner to actuate a relay and move the
cable to the converter into a dummy load via a relay?

I already use the Send for my mfj-1026 noise canceller. I just have to drive
a relay to do the two things.

Question:

Would it be possible to switch the relay fast enough to make sure no damage
would occur to the converter during the transition to transmit?

There may be settings for that in the FT-950.

Thanks for your patience with me and thanks for helping.

Cheers,

Alan

What is the rule of thumb in finding the exact frequency on the HF radio for
a given frequency on a UHF downconverter.

My LO is 424.996550 MHZ.

Does this create a mixing product that I then have to compensate for?

CO-55 just went over the center of North America and I was able to copy the
CW beacon.

Thanks gang.

I am going to use a manual switch to make sure everything is OK with the
converter until I can come up with something bullet proof.

I need the sensitivty of the FT-950 to make this work.

that was a true grazing pass.

Think I am paranoid enough to keep that switch at the dummy load.

Cheers,

Alan

Hi Alan, VY2WU

It is not a rule of thumb but a simple math calculation for frequency
conversion.

As an example :

If you need to receive 435.000 MHz from your UHF downconverter and your LO
is 424.996550 MHZ than you have to tune your HF receiver to the IF frequency
of 435.000 - 424.996550 = 10.00345 MHz

The image frequency or mixing product will be:

435.000 + 424.996550 = 859.99655 MHz wich is very far from the frequency
of 10.00345 MHz to wich the HF receiver is tuned so that don't worry about
because the HF receiver have input filters and the image frequency of
859.99655 MHz will be attenuated a lot of dB from the wanted IF frequency of
10.00345 MHz.

Hi Alan, VY2WU

To find the IF image and the mixing products due to frequency conversion I
suggest you to look also at the following image frequency calculator.

I also tried eggbeaters. The performance was very disappointing.
Take a look at the Gulf Alpha EZ Sat antenna.

Alan, I don't know much, but the Moxon turnstile will be much better in
performance than the 'egg beaters'

Thank you all for the offers to help.

My goals are as follows.

Track and monitor the satellites, I already do this with a manual radio on
VHF.

I can digipeat on the ISS, but not right now due to antenna restrictions.
(No bread man)

I want to build a couple of eggbeaters and have question on them because I
want the UHF on the top of my tower but well built so that any water ingress
will not trash the things.

I am getting a High Sierra 432M7 block down converter that I intend to use
with my TS-50 up/down buttons.

I have Instanttrack now and I looking to interface Instanttune with it.

I am about to build the circuitry for the AA2TX interface with the ON6WG
upgrade but I think someone may have one and could be willing to part with.

I am an electronics tech by trade and able to build the circuit to isolate
the keypresses, but, if I find someone with an interface already built and
willing to sell it, less work. It is getting harder and harder to find
parts. Thankfully Mouser is now active in Canada.

Now I am asking for a Spirit2 controller for my birthday. Is there another
way can do this? sound card perhaps?

OK, so, I want to use the analog satelittes and the pacsats. I have been
fascinated about chasing satellites and now that I know I can do a fair bit
with eggbeater antennas, then so be it.

I am looking forward Elmering.

Best 73,

Alan

I seem to remember that there is a problem running instanttrack/instantune
on windows xp.

I am hoping that the cat on my ft-950 will be supported, I can't see why not
with backwards compatbility and all.

Thankyou in advance.

The following satellites will be launched by PSLV C 21, tentatively
during October 2012.

SARAL, Sapphire, NeosSat, UniBRITE (CanX 3a), BRITE-Austria (Tugsat 1,
CanX 3b), Max Valier and AAUSat III.

Any info about any of the above satellites using Ham radio frequencies ?

Hello Mani,

Did you look for those satellite here?

http://www.amsat.org.uk/iaru/

You can usually find a great deal of information about such
satellites. I see quickly UniBRITE, for example...but not sure if
it's the right one. It takes some review...
