Dave Taylor sent me THE email we were waiting for yesterday morning: with
word of the exact time NASA set up for our ARISS contact out here in Jurupa
Valley, California. On an emotional high, and as I was sending out our
updated media alert to several recipients, I received the AMSAT-BB digest of
messages - with its several-message-long thread simply entitled, "Dee ... "

I couldn't bring myself to read it until late last night. No thread with
that simple of a title and so many instant replies could have been good news.

I regret never got to personally shake Dee's hand in appreciation. Quietly
and "behind the scenes," Dee assisted me with many an inquiry and the
explanation of concepts.

What a wonderful reference person we have lost.

This is really sad. We lost a great one here and NJ will never be the same.

Coordinator for NJ. Not only did he handle the booth at many NJ hamfests

Thanks to all for your patience. I had a heck of a time hearing the
bird.there are some serious downlink issues at the station that need to be
address. Having said that, there were a number of successful contacts. If
you'd like a QSL for the contact, send me the specifics direct (e-mail
below) and I'll make sure you get confirmation.

Apologies to the west coast folks, timing didn't work out. I will try to
get back to the station within the next two weeks for a pass that favors the
west coast. I'll keep you posted.

What horribly sad news. Dee certainly was a man who responded with "I'll be
there." This is increasing rare in our busy world. Dayton won't be the same
this year.....I'll miss him indeed.

Hi Luc,

What we know about the payload:

Data in UHF band
Video in X band

and AP at the weekend reported the satellite will also play North
Korean revolutionary music. A subsequent MSNBC report said reception
details would be provided at the time of the launch, although I don't
hold out hope for an exact frequency. Last time they said songs were
being played "at 470MHz."

KCNA, April 5, 2009
>>It is sending to the earth the melodies of the immortal revolutionary
paeans "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Song of General Kim Jong Il" and
measured information at 470 MHz.<<

I presume that meant the last satellite was alternating songs and
telemetry on the same frequency.

My whole satellite UVL&S stuff is down in the shop (sobsob).? Has anyone
done a rebuild or refurbish of the G5400 az/el rotors?? I am looking for
some information before I "crack" them open, like what to do etc.? I doubt
if I'll ever be using my L&S stuff again (sobsob).? I'll save it just in
case I live long enough!
