My biggest requests would be

a) Get it onto the Barnes & Noble Nook marketplace.
b) Allow other filename/locations for the keps file.

If you record the signal first with something like Scanner Recorder
(freeware), you can adjust levels or try to "clean" the signal between
passes...

Plus, you can leave it on during those passes you aren't there for and play
it back when you get time.

GA,
All the talk about SSTV from this bird got me thinking I'd like to try!
I downloaded MMSSTV and installed.
What are the best settings to use in the setup page for decent copy of photos
from ARRISAT-1?
I did copy pix on 14.230 after setup as a test run...but on last pass of
ARRISAT, had wonderful copy of voice beacon but no pictures decoded.
So wonder what I might be doing wrong.
Any help appreciated.

I've had good luck with MMSSTV using a Fun Cube Dongle, SDR-Radio and then
Virtual Audio Cable to get the audio from SDR-Radio to MMSSTV (all on the
same PC). Today I threw in a 4KHz filter from SDR_Radio and that seems to
improve the S/N ratio. There was a lot of noise removed by that filter.

BTW, I picked up Farrell's license plate quite cleanly around 1800z
although I did not get the start clearly enough to lock onto, so the
picture has the top cut off.

I also noticed some idle in both the telemetry and the FM. A few times I
seemed to be getting strong telemetry but got only Kursk frames, or 5 Kursk
and 1 satellite. Another time, there was no FM audio for 10 or 15 seconds
although there was a carrier. Oddly the telemetry continued, but the CW
over on the edge of the telemetry band stopped. I'm not sure I get that,
although looking at the code on the satellite might show something. At one
point I certainly saw the little guy in low power mode, but the dropouts I
mention above are not that. The transmitter was still on....

At 2055Z today had a 77 deg pass. Highest temp was the -Z PPT 6 panel temp
at 88 C. Yesteday it was temp was 74 C. RF temp was 57 C which is one
degree cooler than observed yesterday.

Keps were only 0.7 days old, but still had to manually chase the signal when
it was near predicted TCA.

Other than a few amateur radio satellites that have piggy-backed into space
on commercial or government launches, what amateur satellites have been put
into "orbit"?

Should the hackers manage to actually get one or more satellites into space,
I suspect that they will make great targets for anti-satellite weapons.
Oops, sorry that we just destroyed Comstar-9, we were aiming for Hacker-3
:-)

There aren't any amateur efforts that I am aware of that are capable of an
orbital launch as far as rocket technology goes. I'm involved in a
multi-year effort to get a sugar propellant based rocket into space. Orbit
is not currently possible for amateur rocketry efforts so unless they can
weasel their way onto a commercial launch it ain't happening.

During the 2229Z pass today, max el 17 deg, the -Z PPT 6 panel temp was
"-1". Wondering if this is a sensor failure from high temperature? Last pass
it was 88 C.

The highest panel temp was +Z PPT 3 at 68 C. RF temp was 65 C compared to
last pass when it was 57 C.

Now that ARISSat-1 is in its last days, the Chicken Little Contest web site
has been updated to include the individual submissions in each category
nearest its likely reentry time.

  www.amsat.org/amsat-new/ARISSat/ARISSatContest

You can see how you are doing compared to the competition! It appears that
the submissions are sufficiently spread out that we will be able to
determine unique winners in each category. However, you can help with this
by keeping the telemetry submissions coming. Space Command does not
maintain precise Tracking and Impact Prediction (TIP) for minor spacecraft.
A small satellite is considered to have reentered when three consecutive
tracking stations fail to acquire it, which leaves a considerable window.
While the formal last telemetry contest is only open to submission through
the telemetry programs, keep listening and note the time and place where you
hear it last. After it has been confirmed to have reentered, the last
reception including voice and CW, may help narrow that window unless
transmissions cease significantly before reentry.

On the latest pass, only about 17 degrees I had some success with a photo.

It is in no way a clear photo but I can see call letters in the upper left
hand side of the print. The rest of the pix seems to be that of a half globe
or something like that...lots of "noise" present in photo.

To accomplish this result I had to use the "rit" to adjust.

Thanks for the help. I like to audio recorder idea. Tnx!

Hi Zack,

It sounds like you don't have a clear enough signal from the satellite. For
a good picture, you will need to have full-quieting FM reception. How did
the voice announcements sound, prior to the SSTV session?

On good pass earlier today, I copied this picture:
http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ariss/SSTV/uploads/6443.jpg It was nearly S9 on
the meter. Just now there was a really low pass (maybe 5 degrees), and at
most an S2 with the preamp turned on. The audio was good enough to copy
most of what was being said, and MMSSTV was able to trigger on the SSTV
image, but all I got for a picture was a rectangle of multi-colored snow.
Same setup as the with the earlier picture.

You will have to adjust the receive frequency a bit to account for the
Doppler shift on most passes. That's just life with Satellites.

Hi Greg,

I think you have me confused with Kirk, N0KK, the op experiencing the SSTV
issues. I do agree, however, that your signal must have no static if you
want to get a clear picture. S5-S7 sometimes doesn?t even cut it. I used
the Arrow (no preamp), and I was able to get it to S7-S9 as long as I wasn?t
in the trees. I posted some of my pics on my blog:
http://kd8ksn.blogspot.com/2011/12/september-2011-in-effort-to-reduce.html

Yeah, sorry about that. My fingers didn't read carefully enough before
springing into action.

So, Nick, any luck?

Hi Zack,
