Next week I will be traveling to West Texas grids DM82-83 and DM92-93.
I will probably activate other grids as pass times and my business
travel allow. Some have expressed interest in me activating DM73 and
there exists a possibility of a convenient DM73/83 grid line pass.

Please email me If you need any of these grids confirmed and I will
work with you to make it happen. I'm able to work AO-27, SO-50, and
the ISS digipeater easily from my portable setup. I realize that
these satellites don't have the capability of a telephone-quality call
to Italy but these satellites are very convenient to mobile operators
and those seeking grids for awards purposes.

Hi John, G4DMF

To mount the down convertor at the aerial/masthead seems to be
a good solution to way out of range from the TS-2000 but to
transmit in 70 cm using the same antenna you need in addition
a good coax relay antenna mounted.

The relay common port must be connected to the 70 cm antenna
and the normally closed contact NC must be connected to the 70 cm
transmission line while the normally open NO contact must be
connected to the converter RF input.

With the above configuration to receive 70 cm using your converter
you need only to excite the relay coil.

Are there any online websites that provide orbital predictions for FASTRAC 1 ?

I couldn't find it at http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/ and www.n2yo.com
lists it but doesn't provide tracking.

I was very sorry to hear of the final Loss of AO-51 (Echo) as it was the
Last satellite developed by Amsat-NA and launched in 2005. As I recall much
of the work was carried out by Mark Kanawati, Jim White, chuck Green (who
accompanied the satellite to the Launch site) and Rick Hambly. My thanks to
all.

It is with a heavy heart I report that AO-51 has ceased transmission and is
not responding to commands. The last telemetry data indicated that the third
of six batteries was approaching failure to short, and observations indicate
the voltage from three cells is insufficient to power the UHF transmitters.
The IHU may continue to be operative. Initial tests with the S band
transmitter were also not positive, although more attempts are in order. We
have tried leaving the satellite in an expected state where i
f voltages climb high enough, the 435.150 transmitter may possibly be heard.

The command team will regularly attempt communications with the satellite
over the coming months (and years). There is always the possibility that a
cell will open and we could once again talk to our friend while illuminated.
Thanks to all who helped fund, design, build, launch, command, and operate
AO-51. It's 7 year mission has been extraordinary. Please support AMSAT's
Fox-1 project, and other AMSAT projects worldwide with your time and money.

For the AO-51 Command Team,

Or if you have access to a message-capable APRS station, simply send an
APRS message to FAST1 or FAST2. The message content can be anything and
you must have recently transmitted a position for your station. You
will receive a response describing the next expected pass of the
respective satellite.

Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32

PS. You can send a message to ISS or any of the other popular amateur
radio satellites to receive the next pass information for that satellite
at your most recently transmitted coordinates.

PPS. If the body of the message is an active APRS station
(callsign-SSID), then the pass prediction will be based on that
station's most recent position instead of your own.

Dear Friends,
It is really a sad news. Bidding a farewell to AO-51 with a very heavy heart.

Looking at the success, we all at Upagrah Amateur Radio Club VU2URC at
ISRO Satellite Centre and AMSAT-India express our heartfelt and
sincere thanks, appreciations and compliments to the entire AO-51
(ECHO) team.

The AO-51 mission is accomplished with a great and complete success.
AO-51 was truly one of the best amateur radio satellites. It was a
very favorite for many of our VU hams for its strong signals and ease
of operations. we really enjoyed on being AO 51 very long time and it
is really hard to bid a farewell to this wonderful bird.

'Thank you AO-51 for your great and fruitful services to the World of
Amateur Radio'.

Our congratulations to the entire control & command team for their
extra-ordinary efforts and incredible technical competence exhibited
in keeping up this 'Cute Little Boy' healthy & alive in orbit for such
a long period of time.

We take this opportunity to thank each & every one associated with
this great project and wish AMSAT-NA all the success in their future
endeavors. We at Upagrah Amateur Radio Club VU2URC at ISRO Satellite
Centre and AMSAT-India assure all the possible and best help for the
common cause of Amateur Radio.

73 es good wishes for a 'Happy Christmas & New Year'.

AO-51 will be remebered to me as I am sure some of those great old birds
were for the ones that have been around long enough... I hope that one day I
will be able to talk on something of that caliber from the stories I hear.
Anyway I always enjoyed every contact and sure miss stayin up all night to
catch the early bird!

Back in late 1997 or early 1998 I was using a Kenwood TR9130 on 2m SSB.
One morning I was tuning from the FM to the SSB portion of the band, and
heard a station just below 146mhz. I tuned them in, and it was a station
from Wales! Obviously going thru a satellite as the 2 meter conditions
weren't that good that morning. I am now wondering what satellite it
probably was. Hearing it was enough to motivate me to eventually get into
satellite operations-that took a few years though.

Anyways, what satellite was I probably hearing? I am guessing AO10 or AO13
but were they operational at that time?
