Industries is funding and building the bus and the universities are
providing the payload. I wonder why the life ("lifetime in orbit") is only
predicted to be 6 months? Aren't most SSO orbits somewhat higher than
LEO? I'd think that with that much mass and higher it would last longer.
Or maybe it is a poor translation and the limitation is consumables (like
fuel)...

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if there are some cool pictures if
nothing else!

Satellite launch opportunity????: Jeff Moore -- KE7ACY

NASA has just released an "Announcement of Flight Opportunities" with a due
date of 12/16/11. This program is looking for payloads:

For Payloads Requiring a Near-Zero or Reduced Gravity Environment: Maturing
Crosscutting Technologies that Advance Multiple Future Space Missions to
Flight Readiness Status

Announcement NOCT110 (February 2011 - December 2014)

Call #3 for Proposals

NASA is providing access to certain flight opportunities available to the
Agency, on a no-exchange-of funds basis, to entities that have technology
payloads meeting specified criteria.

III. Eligibility: All individuals and organizations, U.S. and non-U.S, are
eligible to submit a response to this Announcement. Such organizations may
include educational institutions, industry, nonprofit organizations,
Federally Funded Research and Development Centers, NASA Centers, the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), other Government agencies, and partnerships
between such entities.

With ARISSat-1's main mission being Educational I would like to hear about
people's experiences with schools in using ARISSat-1 as a teaching tool, in
class demonstration, data collection, etc.

I am especially interested in hearing from educators, but anybody's
experience is welcome.

So as to not overwhelm the BB please respond off list.

If you know anyone off list who has used the ARISSat-1 experience in
schools, please pass this request on to them. I would like to hear from them
as well.

AMSAT recognizes we didn't have enough material prepared in advance for
ARISSat-1 and we hope to rectify this now and in the future. I am currently
working with other AMSAT members in developing an educational plan that can
port over to future satellite launches and perhaps even be useful before
ARISSat-1 decays.

Thank you,

EMike McCardel, KC8YLD
