Hi all !

For 70cm I have a 2x8 elements beam. Fixed RHCP polarization.

Downlink of AO51 on 435.300 is always strong,
even though I do not have a pre-amp.

Now, the 435.150 downlink I always hear very weak.

a) is this because of the fact that AO51 uses LHCP on 435.150 ?
b) anyone else confirming the same sharp difference between
RHCP & LHCP on the AO51 downlink ?
(guess this could be an argument NOT to use circular polarization)

Reason for asking: I have now a 23cm antenna, and 10W out of my TS2000X
and so I wanted to give the 23cm up / 70cm downlink a try ...
but of course I first need to hear the downlink :-)

... yes, I know I should use pre-amps ... !

Hi,

Question. I know that a QSO WITH the ISS does not count as a space contact
for FD. Is it also true that a contact THROUGH the digi does not count? I
got a call from a local FD group, and the Q&A list does not explicitly rule
that out. Or at least it can be read that way. It looks as if the "amateur
radio satellite" part does knock it out.

Alan

Q. Why doesn't our contact with the International Space Station count for
the satellite bonus?
A. While the ISS is be definition, the purpose of the satellite QSO bonus is
to complete an Earth to Earth contact via an amateur radio satellite.

Henk,

Yes, the CP is going to be opposite, and switching direction can make
several S-units of difference. Of course, using a pre-amp will make even
the wrong polarization usable at least most of the time.

Thanks Alan & Andrew for confirming.

As alternative I could use my portable antenna,
but having that in my hands in the garden and
the 23cm uplink in the shack is difficult :-)

Need to wait until AO51 will be in 23cm up and 435.300 downlink.

Until then: thanks !

I can send APRS packets through GO-32 at will with 5 watts and an Arrow
antenna on a tripod if the elevation is greater than 30 degrees. Last
time I heard anyone else via GO-32 was on June 13 (VA3SU-1 at 13:14Z).

A look at http://mangrove.findu.com/cgi-bin/pcsat.cgi?absolute=1 shows
the current usage seems to be in Asia and Europe (or perhaps North
America lacks Igates listening to GO-32).

AMSAT-UK will be holding their 23rd International Space Colloquium at the
University of Surrey, Guildford, England from Friday 25th until Sunday 27th
July.

There will a tour of the Surrey Space Centre facilities that is always popular
and provides a unique opportunity to see satellites in various stages of
construction.

On Friday in addition to the main lecture programme there will be a special
"Beginners Workshop" to show newcomers how to use the many Amateur Satellites
that are available.

The event is open to all Radio Amateurs and SWL's. Either Day passes or full
packages comprising overnight accommodation and meals at the University are
available. An online booking service is available with PayPal, Visa and Master
Card payments accepted.

Dear Henk, Colin and BB members

I'm Hiroki Ashida, the current project manager of the Cute project.
I'm very sorry though we informed you that the APD observation had
started, the APD module was automatically turned off at 19:50, Jun
24(UTC) due to an electrical power shortage.
We'll try it again so please try to receive it if you can!

Best Regards,

Contacts through the amateur radio system on the ISS do count as a satellite
contact. So, if you make a voice contact via the crossband repater on ISS or
via the packet Digi then your contact counts. It is the contact with the ISS
crew that does not (as previously stated) count as a contact via an amateur
radio satellite.

Yes.... In the Rotor Setup section of SatPC32, simply click the radio
button for 180 degree max. elevation under the Optional Settings portion
(the lower pane of the Rotor Setup window).

Hi Hiroki,

Seems indeed at around 19:50utc it was turned off:
Around that time (at the very beginning of the pass)
I did hear that single packet and no more after that.

Which confirms that your timer works fine !

Tim,

Yes there is. You must first calibrate or re-calibrate the LVB Tracker for
180 degrees El and 360 or 450 degrees Az, then you must set the max setting
in SatPC32 Rotor Setup.
