SatPC32 and Nova both support Flip mode directly. Just follow the
instructions within the programs on how to do the set up.

I believe the G5400 is a 360 degree rotor control. If you are wanting
to go from West through North to East, you will hit the stop.
Two options come to mind. Put the stop at South, but this gives the
same problem going from West to East though South. The second option is
a program like FLIPANTS that turns the antenna on it's back and turns
the Az control plus/minus 180 so that the stop is not a problem.

Decide if the "through North" or "through South" will become a problem
and make a choice, then use the software to overcome it.
Flipants is a old DOS program, but I think you can find an equivalent
available. Click below to go to download Flipants.

Good luck and I hope this helps solve some obstacles.

ps: The G5500 rotator has a 450 degree travel and helps diminish this
problem, but it will cost more $$$$.

Back home to FN42. Today I took the eggbeater, preamp, and power supply
outside, along with my Kenwood F6A handheld. There was a pass that went
directly overhead. BLAM! I got a nice signal (albeit with deep fades)
essentially the entire time that the bird was above 10 degrees. (I think it
was from about 8 to about 11, but my Keps may have been a bit old). I tried
turning the preamp on and off during this time to see if it helped. Yep!

Cool! So now I know that

1) The preamp is really helpful on the horizons but by the time the bird is
high in the sky, it makes no difference at all.
2) The eggbeater is better than a rubber ducky, although doubtless not as
good as a beam.
3) I have a reasonable chance of reading a signal even on a fairly low pass
4) Most disappointing: It appears that I really can't receive well with the
antenna inside. I'm going to try again, but that is the biggest difference
I see between failure and success. Disappointing because I really wanted to
keep the antennas inside to avoid any number of aesthetic and safety
hassles.

Next step: Try to get an SSTV picture out of what I recorded.

Why did I wait so long to start doing this stuff! I planned to be a ham for
something like 50 years, but never did till now!

Hi Nick,
in the last three years ITAMSAT IO-26 has been in MBL mode, that is in safe
minimum telemetry mode.
Following the confirmation from an AMSAT-NA team that the receivers are
still working and a few attempts to reload the high level operational code
(IHT), the spacecraft was returned to this mode.
After 18 years from launch (on the 26th of September 1993) battery, solar
panels and all subsystems seem to be in fair shape. Mike DK3WN has written a
great software to decode the MBL telemetry and all reception reports are
welcome!

Best regards

John Heath G7HIA has written an article about amateur radio space
communications for the October edition of the British Interplanetary Society
magazine Spaceflight.

The Spaceflight description says:
"Radio amateurs have always been keen to exploit new means of communication
and John Heath [G7HIA] provides a fascinating insight into how satellite
technology has transformed the world of the radio ham soon after the launch
of Sputnik right up to the present day."

The article covers the FUNcube satellite, ARISSat, GB4FUN and the FUNcube
Dongle SDR.

Quick question for all.

I submitted for voice telemetry and SSTV certificates at the same time. I
received the SSTV certificate quite quickly but still awaiting the voice
telemetry certificate. I am presuming perhaps that SSTV may not be as
numerous as voice telemetry requests? I also finally was able to submit for
the secret word certificate which was nice from a great pass yesterday
afternoon. Enjoying the satellite while it is still usable and hope to try
the transponder soon.

No not an Amateur Radio satellite but the United Kingdom's first satellite
launched on a UK built rocket 40 years ago.

The Prospero spacecraft was launched by a Black Arrow rocket on October 28,
1971 from Launch Area 5B, Woomera.
