Is anyone using SatPC32 with a Kenwood TS-2000? If so, what is your
Doppler.SQF entry for the transponder. I can not seem to get it to go
into Duplex (Satellite) mode. It goes into Split and, of course, I can
not hear the downlink.

Hi Domenico,

The Gauss website at
http://www.gaussteam.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91:unisa
t-program&catid=29:unisat&Itemid=195

says regarding frequencies:

"The communication system uses frequencies in the 145MHz band to communicate
from ground to satellite (uplink) and frequencies in the 435MHz band for
communications from the satellite to earth (downlink). It also provides the
S-band."

As I see it there are two issues.

(1) The failure to apply for IARU frequencies. Gauss of course are not alone
in this, for example none of the Russian Federation's satellites have gone
through IARU coordination. Clearly it is desirable that all Amateur Radio
satellite groups go through coordination to minimize interference and enable
us to make maximum use of our limited allocations.

(2) The use of 145 MHz for command uplink and 435 MHz for downlinks by
satellites that are nothing to do with Amateur Radio and are using the
Amateur Satellite Service spectrum for their own private use.

An earlier posting on this list indicated that the 435.750 MHz downlink (and
presumably the 145 MHz uplink ?) would only be used when the satellite was
in range of Italy.

A subsequent posting indicated that EDUSAT would also be commanded from the
United States. I do not have a detailed knowledge of USA Amateur license
regulations so I do not know if US Amateurs are permitted to control private
non-Amateur spacecraft using Amateur Satellite Service frequencies.

A couple days ago, I noticed that to get a 500 Hz signal for CW-2 (nominally
145.9190 MHz) to decode the BPSK-1000 signal, I had to change the
unDoppler-shifted frequency on my USB receiver from 145.918500 MHz to
145.918280 MHz, a change of 220 Hz.

This new value have been consistent over a couple days of careful watching.
I don?t believe it to be an error in the keps or clock as it has been true
both at the beginning and end of the pass. My receiver has been on for over
a month, so unless a component changed value suddenly, ....

Has ARISSat-1 changed, has my radio changed, or does only my hairdresser
know for sure?

Ron,

I have been catching a couple of passes a day for TLM since deployment.
After the initial tweaks, is has been consistently within +/ 20 Hz of the
predicted value. I haven't seen a large jump, though I did tweak it down 20
Hz yesterday to refine my initial values.

Edition 58 of the IARU Region 1 VHF-UHF-UW Newsletter publishes the
notes from the key C5 committee meeting at the IARU-R1 Sun City
conference.

There are a number of Italian repeaters operating in the Amateur
Satellite Service segment from 145.8-146.0 MHz causing interference to
the uplinks and downlinks of Amateur Radio satellites. Among them are:

D-STAR:
IR0MA 145.99375MHz -1.975 Roma, Lazio
IR7AZ 145.97500MHz -1.250 San Giovanni Rotondo , Puglia

Also these Italian repeaters using other modes:
FM: IR0CK 145.8500MHz -0.600 Roma (Internet Linked)
Echolink: IQ0FP 145.8875MHz Node 522 131
Packet: IK4MTK-6 145.975MHz Parma, North Italy

The IARU-R1 Sun City conference C5 committee meeting notes say:

SC11_C5_16 ? D-Star in Italy using SAT-Band

IARU R1 stresses the importance of satellite service and band plans
also in case of the introduction of new modes. It is recommended to
disconnect repeaters/nodes from international D-Star network if these are
operated in contradiction to IARU-R1 band plans.

Action points:
1. Write the repeater operator to remove out of satellite segment.
2. Inform the trust server operator of the IARU bandplan breach made
by the use of the repeater.
3. Inform the government about the repeater and request them to remove
the repeater.

Action for the chairman OE1MCU

Voted in favour: All unanimous in favour

All,
ARISSatTLM only uses the 48 kHz sampling rate on soundcards, so
that's the only rate your card needs to be able to run at for ARISSatTLM.

Alan,
For the last week or so we have been observing it come out of eclipse.
I have noted at worst, a very slow 40Hz shift as ARISSAT1 warms up.
I update the TLE's every day for ARISSAT1 (possibly an overkill) but it is
always within +/-20 Hz at AOS that you quoted.

All,

I will be traveling through EM47 on Sep 3rd and again on the 5th. I
will stop briefly on both days to provide an opportunity for as many
as possible to put this rare grid in their logbook. I will only be
able to be active on one pass per day.

Planned operations will be via SO-50:

3/Sep/2011 14:49 - 15:02 UTC

and

5/Sep/2011 14:06 - 14:20 UTC

No QSL/SASE is necessary, just send me an email request and I'll be
glad to QSL our contact.

73,

Doug KD8CAO

Ps. For those that need EM59, drop me an email. I may have the
opportunity on Friday night to operate from this grid via SO-50 @
2/Sep/2011 00:35 - 00:49UTC. If I get some requests, I'll try to fit
it into my schedule.

There's way more traffic on the DigitalRadio list and I don't have to go to
it to see the messages - they come to me. That's the biggest problem with
online forums - you have to go to the forum to read the messages. I'm a
member of at least a half dozen forums - I haven't been to ANY of them in at
least 6 months. The 20 + lists I subscribe to OTOH, I get traffic from
every day. Done deal!

This also works fine for the Yaesu FT 847.

Hi Trevor, M5AKA

The problem here in Italy is that our Communication Autority do not
recognize IARU and the IARU band.plan !

In Italy only ARI is the IARU Amateur Society representing ARI members but
here in Italy there are almost 10 different Amateur societies that are not
representing IARU and do not recognize the IARU regulations but they have
the same voice of ARI during meeting with the italian Communications
Autority.

No way to solve the problem !

Hi Trevor, M5AKA

Thank you for the information.I believe that without the contribution of the
Amateur Radio Community all around the word in receiving and collecting TLM
as well commanding the satellite the success of Edusat will be a operativeor
failure.

Hi Domenico,

The Gauss website at
http://www.gaussteam.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91:uni
sat-program&catid=29:unisat&Itemid=195
