Mike,

High and low power refers more accurately to power consumption rather than
transmitted power. Low power means a less than 100% duty cycle. Many of
the popular tracking programs such as SATPC32 and MacDoppler will tell you
when the satellite is in daylight or eclipsed. A spacecraft is often
illuminated when the ground track is in darkness, though the passes you
mentioned would be in eclipse.

Alan

Whats the difference between high and low power mode? I know its determined
by being in eclipse or not and I believe high power is 0.5 W on SSB and FM.
But no luck in finding more info than that on the web about power.

So far, all passes I've been able to copy here Eastern US are late at night
(11PM-1AM) so I'm assuming I'm getting low power mode.

I gather ARISSat-1's total power output is 500 milliwatts.

How many milliwatts of that is allocated to each of these downlinks
- FM transmitter
- BPSK Beacon
- CW beacon
- Transponder

I couldn't find the figures on a quick read through the ARISSat.org they may
be there somewhere but I didn't spot them.

When these kinds of comments come up, I often wonder how many people actually
understand how the US economy works. I spend some time to put together some
view points of how the FED is affecting what's happening and how the "basis of
the FED" as a mechanism is not really working to manage the complexities of
our
economy. There are things all over youtube.com which are records of senate
and
congressional committee sessions, historical videos, documentaries etc. If
you
are not really sure how the FED works and what all the "troubles" of the
economy
in the U.S. and the world (because many countries chose to tie themselves to
our
currency system), visible my Google+ post that I've put up and look around at
some of the videos I've linked to.

Before I destroy these, is anyone using Mirage KP-2 mast mounted preamps
with a Yaesu FT-847?

I picked up a couple of them recently, and they came with the control box
(which appears to be a bias tee) that supplies 12 volts via the coax line,
in order to power them.

The FT-847 can already supply 12 volts up the coax to mast mounted preamps;
but I wonder if these Mirage preamps require the use of the control box for
some reason. I would prefer to use the rig to power the preamps, but the
manual doesn't mention that option.
