Thanks for the reply Peter,
I am " not" a school teacher . lol.... I have a mere setup for a satellite
station , FM only . I would not attempt to set up a portable station for a
classroom event and expect to recieve
any of the downlinks We look forward to from ARISSAT . I have only
downloaded 2 or 3 sstv pictures from Seeds 2 . That is with My controlled
antenna and FM station . Is it so easy to receive sstv from Seeds ? I hear
it and hear a good signal , but don't copy the pic very successfully . I
think it will be the same power output that is from Seeds .? 500mw? I will
be listening , but still have My doubts.

If the power fails to the cell site, it shouldn't make a difference.
They're supposed to have 48 hours of battery backup.
Up here at 58?N most cell sites cover a huge area and have no mains power,
so they run on a diesel genny that gets filled up once a week or so.

Jerry,
If the battery comes out of the ISS fully charged, you will hear it OK- The
solar cells will keep it in a charged up scenario.
Now, I hope the day they finally decide to kick this out is a day I will be
near my station....

Dee

Just a relatively new subscriber question?is this group always so off topic?
I understand the source of this post but after a few emails it is clearly
nowhere near the original posters comments on why he thinks he can use a
satellite versus a cell phone. I have also witnessed many posts that rapidly
get into all sorts of things far afield of satellite related things. I have
subscribed to many lists and there is usually someone that herds the cats to
stay on topic. That seems to be missing here.
Of course, I realize I am welcome to unsubscribe but I do appreciate the
nuggets of information actually related to satellites. Maybe I could
respectfully suggest that a post like this last one that has devolved to
having nothing to do with amateur satellites should have its subject changed
to OT:Cell Towers so we all know to ignore the thing.
Thanks,

This is one thing I have noticed that seems to be unique to ham lists-the
reflector police who are worried about off topic posts. Not a shot at you
Tom. Your question is just fine. However, I have been on quite a few
reflectors where they get very upset about off topic posts. In the past I
have belonged to some non-ham reflectors, and nobody ever cared if a thread
got off topic. I was talking to a friend about this on 70cm yesterday and
he thought the same thing.
Just an interesting observation. Not sure why hams get more concerned about
it than others.
Shoot, this was off the topic myself.

Good analysis John, but the AMSAT mgmt seems to have more of a 'sacred cow'
attitude than most ham spots
Remember last week when some 'politics' was discussed. The Head Amsat
Channel Cop wasted no time sending out a bunch of silly e-mails putting some
of us on 'double secret probation' !
Bottom line: it?s a hobby !!!

This is a duplicate post. There IS a reason. Just delete. Nothing has been
added since the same-titled post a couple hours ago.
NASA has some really cool resources absolutely free for us ...
Mission Summary (760KB PDF)
Press Kit (11.4MB PDF)
Commemorative Press Kit Cover (11x17 - 1.7MB PDF)
Launch Countdown Milestones and Times
Prelaunch Briefings and Events
Crew Poster (2.35MB PDF)
Mission Poster (2.23MB PDF)
Atlantis Fact Sheet (300KB PDF)
Atlantis Tribute Gallery
Just go to NASA.gov, and select Shuttle Mission. I am having trouble selecting
which of the great graphics to use as my screensaver ... (grin)

All systems go for the AO7 pass, with a nice window to N. America this
morning on the next pass. I worked several European stations on the last
pass, some distortion but strong signals.

Not having much experience working the SSB birds, can anyone give me a rough
schedule of when AO-7 goes from mode B to A and vice versa, and what mode it
is in right now. I am supposed to work a SSB pass with a guy this coming
Monday night around 2300z, and we only have mode B equipment. Is there any
way to get a general idea/guess of what more it will be in? I don?t want to
even mess with hauling equipment around if it won?t be in mode B.

Hi Zack,
As long as it is in Sun all the time the changes take place about 2300 UTC.
You can tell how it is looking at:

Good luck with the project.

Zack,
I have found this site to be the most up to date as far as AO-7's mode.

If you look at July 7 ...it changes over between 23:31 and 23:46
according to the times entered.
