Greetings, all
I'm "improving" my elevation rotor setup, and I'm wondering what others
are using to secure the cross-boom inside the elevation rotor.
I've been using stainless hose clamps, and they work kinda-sorta OK, but
have a tendency to slip. I'd really like to get either some proper size
u-bolts, or the part numbers from the clamps Yaesu supplies with the rotor.
They appear to be 54mm / 2-1/8" inside-the-legs, and I'm coming up blank
on searching for some.
There are no part numbers for the clamps in the manuals I have for the
rotors.
I have FOUR elevation rotors, and NO clamps!
Seems like the clamps always get lost when people take these apart to sell.
Thanks!

Great! I've always heard that the support for their rotors is spotty,
but if they have them, I'll go that way.
I live in Long Beach, and they're not very far from here.
Maybe I'll swing by Tuesday afternoon when I get off from work.
Thanks!

I will be on at least the 6:12 local time (fm29) pass of AO-51. I will try
to be in DE waters for some more FM bird passes but it isn't likely, but I
will try.
The WX looks iffy, local forecast is calling for 30 % chance of T-Storms, a
big boating no no.
Good luck to all you clean sweepers :)

There I was yesterday, sitting on the side of the road (actually, off I-45N
on the frontage road), at the intersection of grids EM20 and EM21, trying
(unsuccessfully, it seems) to work the 1710z pass of SO-50 when the Texas
State Police pull up behind my truck. You know the ones--the black and
white units with a really large fellow wearing an impressive hat. To
complete the picture, when he pulled up behind me I did have my arm out the
window holding my home-brew 3-element 70 cm beam and pointing it where I
could best hear the downlink. And he said, "What you in for, son?" Just
kidding--and sorry for mixing metaphors. What he actually said was, "Can I
ask what you are doing?" When I explained, in as non-technical terms as I
could, he asked me to, "explain that again." I did. My wife was quite
amused. He walked around my truck, noted the call sign on the plates (in
Texas it actually says "radio operator" in small print on the plates), and I
explained the antenna on t!
he back window was for transmit and the hand-held one was for receive. He
looked perplexed, but then smiled and told me he had a call from someone
saying I was waving a gun around out my window. My wife actually chuckled
at this point. He asked me to pull further off the road and went on back to
his cruiser/interceptor and drove off. My wife continued with quips like,
"I can't wait to tell people about this."
I never did make any contacts on that pass (I've only had this radio 10
years, but I swear I still get confused on the menu choices), but managed 13
solid contacts today (AO-51 2201z) from the same spot on the South side of
I-45 as I returned home from Dallas, including HK3Z, Aki, and CO6CBF,
Hector. I was hoping to work some VEs to impress my wife, but I think they
were all on royals watch for the weekend.

Congratulations. Way to go. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago. I had
been waiting since November 2010. I didn't get any paper work showing the
grids that I had work but LOTW shows them. 73,3. Jim, KE4KOL

Hi all,
After 159 days since submitting the paperwork and couple follow up e-mails,
I finally received my VUCC Satellite award. For some reason, I keep
thinking I should've received some paperwork with the certificate and
stickers. I thought they were suppose to have a copy of the grids already
worked on a paper format. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. If anybody
knows this to be true, please let me know. Maybe this wait isn't quite over
yet.

So that idea of adding a pistol grip to the antenna is out now? :-)

Well, 54mm is so close to 2-1/8" that it wouldn't matter. Either would
fit, and the 54mm muffler clamps I found also state they work for 2-1/8"
pipes.
And I anti-sieze *everything8!

Yep, I found some on eBay that are advertised as 54mm / 2-1/8" from a
"Mini Shop" in England.
Since I live so close to Yaesu, I think I'll drive over there after work
Tuesday and see if they have them in stock.

Hi Jim, KQ6EA
The U bolts is Part Number 56
The clamps are Part number 57
The plane washer is Part Number 58
The lock washer is Part number 59
The bolt in part number 60
The above Part Number and location comes from the manual of Major
Part List for the old KR-500 Elevation Rotator from Ken Pro wich
mechanically are the same size for the G5400 and G5500 Cross Boom
U-Bolts

First off, a post on AMSAT-BB is not a proposal. Tony just outlined
ARISS's mission and why a straight up transponder probably won't be
supported by ARISS. Tony also stated that ARISS' goals. Now, if someone
really wanted this, wouldn't it make sense to sit down and write out a
proposal regarding a transponder project that dovetailed into ARISS'
STEM goals?
Also, isn't Amateur Radio, by definition, "free" -- hence the whole
"Amateur" status? Didn't a lot of us just do a giant PR event with
amateur radio last weekend? How are we knocking NASA for this?

I read a well written explanation by Tony as to why a straight up
transponder probably won't fly with ARISS. How can anyone interpret this
as payback?

Disappointed to hear that you may be leaving the list, I enjoyed your
posts. However, after 15+ years or so of experience on listservs myself,
I find these kinds of proclamations just plain silly.

*sigh* People need to remember this is a hobby. If I probably calculated
the amount of time I spent thinking about satellites alone and
multiplied it by my consulting rate, I'd probably have enough to send my
son to college already. Folks, be excited. If you're quoting rates and
it's not the rate you pay people to burble about ham radio, you should
really ask yourself if you're having fun doing it.

Hi!
I received an e-mail from Ray W1OTH this
afternoon. He just got back home after a
hospital visit and is getting caught up on
his e-mails. Ray will respond to all of those
who e-mailed him, but please be patient.
I did not get any updates from Ray on what -
if anything - has been sold from the list I

I would like to be able to give a firm date for the ARISSat deployment, but
there are a few issues that make that a moving target.
The deployment is scheduled to occur during Russian EVA 29, today that is 27
July 2011.
>From a teleconference last week there was a notice that the EVA may be
pushed back a week or two if the Shuttle arrives in early July- nothing firm
yet.
We have another teleconference 6 July. I will release any probable dates or
updates when I know them. Thank you for your patience.
