I will be on at least the 6:52 (fm29) pass of AO-51. I will try to be in DE

Then there's us over here on the NW. Coast.? I was beating my head against
the east coast alluminum curtain for a fair part of my Sat. afternoon on
20M.? Several 13 colony stations even?turned their beams to the UK to work
them.? ? I mean that's who we had to beat up to become 13 colonies.??Got a
couple after several hours, heard no one on AO-7.? Better luck tomorrow,
tell those HF stations there is a W. coast.? I hope everyone has a fun and
safe 4th weekend.

I'm trying to close out all the EM grids on satellite, and still need
EM03, EM33, EM46, EM49, and EM19 confirmed. I'd love to make a schedule
for any of these grids, either FM or SSB. I can make most any pass with
some notice and a little luck.
I have my confirmed satellite grids map on my QRZ page at
www.qrz.com/db/KO4MA . Recent improvements to my antenna supports now
allow me to work very low passes to the west and north. Take a look at
the map, and if you need EL88, or I need a grid you can do, please drop
me an email.

Hi all,
After 159 days since submitting the paperwork and couple follow up e-mails,
I finally received my VUCC Satellite award. For some reason, I keep
thinking I should've received some paperwork with the certificate and
stickers. I thought they were suppose to have a copy of the grids already
worked on a paper format. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. If anybody
knows this to be true, please let me know. Maybe this wait isn't quite over
yet.

Hello there.
Can any one explain to me what's keeping 51 alive over Europe at the moment.
Its been great getting to use it during the pass over Uk. I did notice tho
that it does stop working for a day every 2 day's?. Is some one uplinking
the software in Europe to make it work?. Anyway cheers to people who are
keeping the bird going am still fairly new to the satellite side of our
hobby and want to use 51 one as much as i can..
Cheers and beers

The registration problem turned out to be an artifact, mostly, of the
migration process I used. When I move to a new computer, I use a LapLink
program called PCMover. It not only moves files and settings, but installed
programs. Because of an unwise choice of names for the old computer,
WA4SCA, and the new one, ALAN-PC, it decided to change all incidences of my
call in the registry on the new computer to ALAN-PC. That included WiSP.
When I edited the WiSP registry directly, WiSP came up registered. Since I
was using an administrator account, UAC turned off, I would have thought the
normal registration window would have overwritten the ALAN-PC entry, but it
didn't. All the other programs which had that problem updated correctly,
normally.

Subject: [amsat-bb] Problem with registering WiSP using WIN7
I have finally switched to WIN7 32 bit from XP, and have a few odd little
issues. One is that WiSP no longer recognizes my registration number as
valid. (Double checked from the original e-mail.)
Possibly a clue is that when I start the program, it already has ALAN-PC in
the Callsign box. That is the name of the PC. Of course I clear it. It
did register, once, and I _thought_ it was due to the caps lock being off.
However, when I booted up this morning, it was unregistered and doesn't
accept the registration with or without the caps lock being on. I did try
some backward compatability settings, but no help.
Anybody have this happen, with a solution? I am toying with changing the
name of the machine to WA4SCA, but am holding off until some other support
issues are solved.

* Getting Ready for .01
Getting Ready for ARISSat-1/RadioSkaf-V Operation
Here are some reminders to help you get your station ready for
ARISSat-1/RadioSkaf-V
operation. Your 2-meter FM radio or HT will work well to receive the FM
voice messages
and SSTV on the
145.950 MHz downlink.
You will need a SSB-capable receiver to copy the BPSK telemetry beacon, the
CW beacons,
and the linear transponder passband.
Read about the details ...
145.950 MHz FM Downlink:
------------------------
FM transmissions will cycle between a voice ID as RS01S, select tele- metry
values, 24 international
greeting messages in 15 languages and SSTV images. One of the messages will
be a conversation
between Yuri Gagarin and ground control.
435 MHz - 145 MHz Linear Transponder:
-------------------------------------
The linear transponder will operate in Mode U/V (70 cm Up, 2m Down).
It is an 16 KHz wide inverting passband and the convention will be to TX LSB
on the 435 MHz
uplink and RX USB on the 145 MHz downlink. This mode is designed to work
with low power
transmitters and omni antenna.
145.919 MHz/145.939 MHz CW Beacon:
----------------------------------
The CW transmissions will be callsign ID RS01S, select telemetry, and
callsigns of people actively
involved with the ARISS program.
145.920 MHz SSB BPSK-1000 Telemetry:
------------------------------------
The BPSK transmissions will feature a new 1kBPSK protocol developed by Phil
Karn, KA9Q to be
readable in low signal level conditions.
The BPSK data will transmit satellite telemetry.
The ARISSat-1/RadioSkaf-V BPSK-1000 downlink is transmitted in SSB mode on
145.920 MHz. When
the CW2 beacon on 145.919 MHz is active this indicates that the BPSK-1000
format is being transmitted.
If the CW1 beacon on 145.939 MHz is active this indicates the backup of
BPSK-400 format is being transmitted.
Transmitting at 100 mW, both BPSK rates include Forward Error Correction
(FEC) and it is expected that
modest quarter-wave antennas with low-loss coaxial cable will provide
sufficient signal strength for
decoding and display by the ARISSatTLM software.

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report June
27, 2011
1. Japanese Contact Successful
On Tuesday, June 21, an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station
(ARISS) contact was
held between Nankan 4th Elementary School in Tamanagun, Kumamoto, Japan and
on-orbit
astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, KE5DAW. There was a delay in making contact, but
once established,
the students got in nine questions. This unique activity supplemented lesson
plans about amateur
radio technology and the International Space
Station mission. An audience of approximately 100 attended the event
which was covered
by 5 newspapers and 5 television stations, including NHK (Japan Broadcasting
Corporation).
2. ARISS International Team Teleconference Held
The monthly ARISS International Team meeting was held on Tuesday, June 21.
Topics covered
included the upcoming ARISS Face to Face meeting in October and a status on
the ARISSat-1
satellite, designated KEDR in Russia. Minutes have been
posted: https://www.rac.ca/ariss/arisstel2011-06-21.htm
3. News of U.S. ARISS Proposal Process Distributed
The NASA EXPRESS message sent on June 16 included an item on ARISS contact
opportunities
for U.S. schools using the new proposal process. Also made aware of these
opportunities were
other U.S. education organizations such as Solar System Ambassadors, Space
Grant Community,
INSPIRE, WISH, Endeavor Fellows and the Museum Alliance.
4. Astronaut Training Status
Don Pettit, KD5MDT, and Andr? Kuipers, PI9ISS, were given an ARISS preflight
session on June 22.
The two astronauts hope to participate in ARISS contacts during their flight
with Expedition
30 which will launch in November 2011.
5. ARISS Items in ARRL Letter
The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) ran two ARISS items in its June 23
ARRL Letter.
The first story is about the astronauts who recently passed their amateur
radio Technician exams
and were issued call signs. This piece is titled "NASA Astronauts and
Astronaut Candidates Earn
Amateur Radio Licenses." The second item is titled "Field Day from Space:
International Space Station Could be Active for ARRL Field Day." Both
stories may be viewed at:

Hi Kev,
AO-51 is up over Europe due to the US command team routinely restarting
the satellite, and tweaking the power settings to find a combination to
get it through eclipse, and lots of luck. Currently one of the 6 battery
cells onboard is shorted, and another is in really poor shape. The
onboard computer was crashing each orbit, but we seem to have found a
balance point where it will sometimes go up to two days before crashing.
Each time it crashes, we have to restart using the housekeeping software
onboard in ROM, which has a much more limited functionality than our
normal software which we would upload from the ground over a few days time.
How long we will be able to continue to limp along is anyone's guess.
I'd encourage you to use it while it's available, and to financially
support new satellite programs like Kiwisat, Funcube, and Fox when you can.

Congratulations on #217!? They remembered to include the list of stations I
worked, but I've heard that has been inconsistent.

Hi all,
After 159 days since submitting the paperwork and couple follow up e-mails,
I finally received my VUCC Satellite award.? For some reason, I keep
thinking I should've received some paperwork with the certificate and
stickers.? I thought they were suppose to have a copy of the grids already
worked on a paper format.? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.? If anybody
knows this to be true, please let me know.? Maybe this wait isn't quite over
yet.

Jeff? WB3JFS
