If you are digipeating "through" the ISS then you are using the ISS as a
relay just like any other satellite that you communicate through and that
would not qualify as a contact with the ISS (or satellite).

If you desire a contact with the ISS then you must contact it directly. The
most rewarding way is to talk directly to the crew (but a lot like rare DX).
You can use packet to connect to the ISS remote system (RS0ISS-3) when that
is active to receive an automatic response from the system on board or
connect to the BBS (not recommended during heavy traffic periods). I think
it might have an auto response from RS0ISS-4 as well but do not recall at
this moment.

If you just want a SWL card for hearing the ISS then send in your report to
your respective QSL bureau. The list is available at
http://www.rac.ca/ariss/oindex.htm#QSL's

Hi Group,

Does anyone here know the ISS QSL card requirements for digipeating through
RS0ISS-4?

Obviously it is possible to get a QSL card from the other amateur radio
station on the ground, with whom you have a 2 way packet QSO in a pass.

Is there any way to get an ISS QSL card itself, other than by having a two
way voice contact with the ISS crew? Not a SWL card for receiving only.

I know the ISS fanclub produce a certificate for digipeating through the
ISS, but want to find out if ARISS itself does anything similar that doesn't
involve leaving a message on the BBS?

All the best

Philip G0ISW

I second this question...

Re: Equipment & Literature Disposal
June 3, 2011

The literature and equipment listed below is mostly free to individuals
and/or groups involved in OSCAR development and OSCAR support activities.
In some cases a contribution direct to AMSAT-NA may be appropriate. Most
equipment comes with all accessories and original manuals. Pickup must be
arranged! Cataloging this material is a big job. Please (1) bear with me
as I issue updates over next several weeks and (2) respond directly -- do
NOT clutter AMSAT BB.

Note to those who know me personally -- I?m in good health, just moving and
downsizing and I?d like to see this ?stuff? get into hands of someone who?ll
appreciate it and/or where appropriate preserve it. Anyone who has moved
50+ years of QST several times will understand.

Update: 7 June, 2011

Sorry I can?t respond to everyone personally but all replies are being read
and saved. Again, please note that this is NOT a ?for sale? posting. I?d
like to see these items go to museums, libraries, and individual collections
of those who have made significant contributions to the Amateur Satellite
Program and to Amateur Radio in general. My memory isn?t that great these
days (actually it never was) so If you make a request it might help to
mention your background and connections. However, some of the items
mentioned are junk and available to anyone (this does not include the Bird
wattmeter)
.
Also, It would be helpful if readers could forward this list to
college libraries, antique radio museums, EME & VHF/UHF/Microwave lists,
etc. Several of the books were personal gifts and signed by the authors.
If a museum would like me to reconstruct (fully operational) the downlink
receiving system I used to monitor Sputnik I or the mode A station I used
for initial OSCAR 6 communications I might be able to do this. Stay tuned
for updates as I open new boxes from old office moves. Also, if someone
with a truck wants to pick up 55 years of not so gently used QST?s before
they go to the dump it would make my life much easier.

So is transmitting for the benefit of a limited Amateur Radio community
(those practicing APRS) the same as "broadcasting" to the general public?

AGREE...It is TOTALLY inappropriate for Rick to post this kind of
information. (potentially libelous also)

Ebay has remedies for the seller.

The Ebay employee that released the information to Rick should be terminated
at a minimum, and maybe charged criminally.

Lastly, whoever moderates this board should have killed it before allowing
it to be posted

It's good to know that a members personal information is never released
by unethical employees. Is this the way you would want your information
broadcast? There are processes in place for deceptive sellers which
should have been used. I know I won't be relying on eBays privacy policy

The launch opportunity went away. We are back on the list looking for a new
ride. Nothing in site...

Now we are working on a tether sat, and I proposed using the long tether as
an HF antenna, but once the tether deploys, the drag will be so great that
the tethersats will deorbit in only a day or two, and so this idea is not
getting a lot of traction.

For the record, Chris did not access the seller's information by any
backdoor means. The information is freely available once a transaction is
completed, which is how he got the info:

Any buyer or seller can request the contact information for the buyer or
seller after a transaction is complete. That is what I did. I did not
"hack" or use internal methods to acquire his information. I clicked a
button on our website.

This is what you use to contact a buyer.. notice the bottom part:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/contact.html

To request your seller's contact information:

1. Click the Advanced search link at the top of most pages.

2. Click the Find contact information link in the Members
section on the left side of the page.

3. Enter the seller's user ID and item number.

4. Click the Search button.

Thought I'd set the record straight.

It's good to know that a members personal information is never released

by unethical employees. Is this the way you would want your information

broadcast? There are processes in place for deceptive sellers which

should have been used. I know I won't be relying on eBays privacy policy

any longer. I will forward your email to eBay along with my request for

flushing my info thanks to you.

Not that anyone cares if the general public can receive it, or not -
hence why you can get a receive-only feed from APRS-IS servers without a
valid passcode.

Here's the thing, guys - no-one cares what you do as long as you're not
stepping on anyone else. The 2m band is big enough for everyone to have
a bit, even without all this ridiculous 12.5kHz channel nonsense. Play
nice, don't be a nuisance, and send packets as much as you like.

Just keep the emcomm wallies off my digipeater, or I'll close it
down ;-)
