change that. Looks crazy driving down the highway!!!!
Keep up the good work!
BTW: Love the article on sat oops (not a typo). Need to agree with you on
the lack of information and elmers in this part of the hobby. Too many
crusty BOF's curmudgeoning away. We need to get a good how manual.

You know I knew there would be a spoilsport in the group, well we are all
entitled to our opinion. In my opinion ALL of the people are "Boadcasting"
and the moment someone starts experimenting and actually having FUN with a
two way conversation on the ISS, if you bothered to look that is you old
codger! So the 99 percent of the people that are "Beaconing" and not even
saying anything, now that is a waste of power.
Broadcasting and a waste of power, you know what a waste of power is? Me
bothering to respond to such negativity. This is Amateur Radio.

Kevin,
Do you think that because it is amateur, that you can ignore proper
protocols? CB is amateur too and lacks protocol. Do we want that?
Beaconing...legal, broadcasting... illegal. That's something old codger
amateurs
didn't make up on this board here today. Calling CQ satellite for the whole
pass isn't illegal, may be lidish, but would you tolerate that breach in
proper satellite communications because it's amateur communications? You
possibly could be one to complain that you missed a VUCC grid because of
that poor operation and probably wouldn't excuse it due to the definitions
you presented.
1) person who engages in a study, sport, or other activity for pleasure
rather than for financial benefit or professional reasons. (Doesn't mean
pleasure should derive from lidish behavior.)
2.an athlete who has never competed for payment or for a monetary prize. (
There's a reg for that.)
3.a person inexperienced or unskilled in a particular activity: (I assume
your hanging your hat on this definition? Unfortunately, most operators are
skilled in this activity. Might lack experience, but skilled.)
So, that was all that was being pointed out to you by the other posts.

Bash Kevin if you want, but isn't 99.9% of all APRS broadcasting? You never
really expect a response from anyone, and what true purpose does the digi on
the
ISS perform? Most of it is amateurs BROADCASTING their locations, no
emergency
traffic, the only real protocol is to ID and no swearing which both KF7MYK and
KF7BUZ complied with, at least it wasn't HI HI, roger, roger

Hi all,
I will be giving a presentation about amateur satellites to my club
(Hood County ARC) tomorrow evening Monday, June 6.
There is an SO-50 pass about 00:45 UTC that I will try to work with the
HT and Arrow antenna to show off our stuff. 36 degrees max el. to the
west of us here in North Central Texas.
A few contacts and greetings to the club would be appreciated, if you
hear me.
N?JY from EM12
Thanks and hope to work some of you tomorrow night!

All,
If I am broadcasting with my beacon on, I am sorry, if I see a friend pop
on and I send him a message, sorry again.
I am a newish ham and built a
burst, just like all the aprs repeaters on 144.390 broadcasting away to any
one who will listen.
I am thinking that if you are upset that I am taking the seconds away from
you at 5am PST to send a message on something that I built and out the J
pole I made. Again I am sorry, but I think that isn't the issue. It's the
fact that we are doing it with low end equipment that a Tech license allows
us to use.
When the new crew arrive on the 9th, there will be 2 more ham guys, and
you can bet your $$$$$$$$ equipment that I will take out my ft 60 and make a
nice QSO like I have before.
Sorry for the rant but, there ya have it.
PM me if you really have any issues.

Hi all
This week SO67 will be operational over the Americas. See the schedule on
www.amsatsa.org.za <http://www.amsatsa.org.za/> . Note that the schedule is
what is planned. It may not always be operational. Much depends on battery
condition.
We have extended the first day cover competition till 30 June. Details are
also on the SA AMSAT web.

Fonfident what everyone needs is another opinion, I am going to throw my two
cents in: I don't see beaconing any more as brodcasting than calling CQ.

They are allowed as carry on provided you've insulated the terminals.
Has anyone had any problems?
I think packing the cables is a good idea.

You wont have any trouble. Make sure the terminals are insulated and have
fun. I go through TSA a LOT (I fly the planes)...should have no issues RGO

That is simply because too many people were completely mislead into thinking
of APRS as a vehicle tracking system which is just wrong. It was nothing of
the kind. It evolved from the 1980's desire to get away from one-on-one
packet BBS's with NO human contact back to HUMAN-to-HUMAN live information
exchange.
But then in the mid 1990's GPS came out and so did a lot of stupid trackers
and now we are stuck with this light's-on-nobody-home scenario in a lot of
people's minds. See how wrong these assumptions are:
http://aprs.org/APRS-tactical.html
My focus in APRS has always been about live contact. That is why now all
new APRS radios not only communicate the position of the other stations, but
also their voice contact frequency in every packet. See:
http://aprs.org/localinfo.html

Think I heard COMPASS-1 today?
Today while listening to the clean tones of CO-65, another very warbly CW
signal came up right on top of it. I did a quick scan of all other AMSATS
and found that Compass was over at the same time.
I notice it is listed as semi-operational. I guess this was one of those
Semi's?
Or is it on all the time and I can add it to my list of Demo satellites?
