is something I'll keep in case it gets flaky on me.

Hi All,

What's everyone using for computer to rotator interfaces these days ?

I have the old KR400/500 rotator units to control that I was using
ARSWIN for but since I upgraded to 64 bit XP that no longer works and
there doesn't appear to be a software upgrade :(

So... I either have to build or buy a new controller.

regards

Tim

Hi Kevin!

Yes, it is possible to get Hawaii on FM satellites from the US West Coast
or west of the Rockies. Robert NH7WN, who just posted here on the -BB
recently, is the first satellite QSO for many. His e-mail address as listed
on QRZ.com (the same address he uses to post here) is good, and he
has been very good at making schedules to work stations on the mainland.
He is also very good at getting QSL cards out to the stations he works.

Good luck with that, and maybe I will hear you on Saturday from a hamfest
in the morning and wherever I end up later in the day.

Tim and all,

I'm starting to think I may have had a fantasy about rotor control...I have
a NIB Kenpro KR-5400A,(full az/el) which I have assumed could be controlled
directly by the SAT program in HRD without any other interface except the
controller that comes with the Kenpro. Is that not so? (I have not yet
installed the rotor, so no big deal ...yet)

Everyone,
What is a normal setup, there is an interface unit that goes in-between the
computer and the rotor control. I have a Yaesu G5400 that has the DIN plug
in the rear that directly connects to the "LVB Tracker box" that I purchased
from AMSAT (a fundraiser for them and available for sale on their website).
It is easy to hook up and directly connects to many rotor software products-
The SATPC32 that AMSAT sells not only controls your rotor but it will
control your Doppler correction if you use it to tune your radio via another
port.
Check the web for other devices and schemes to control rotors.

Aloha

Unless someone has set up a strange repeater there is absolutely
no doubt AO51 was alive and well as she came out of eclipse moments ago.
I was able to hear myself perfectly on the downlink (145.880 up and
435.150 down). Unfortunately, the footprint from here only touched the
west coast. Had an Alaska station been on, I am sure there would have
been a QSO. The signal was strong the entire pass.

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder." This expression is a perfect fit for
SO-67's schedule over North America. Because it's not always available, I
feel it's a real treat when it's activated for us. I check the SA AMSAT

Kevin,

Hawaii is possible but passes on AO-51 need to be close to the 1/2 way point
between the west coast and Hawaii.
Last September my wife & I went to Oahu and I operated from the entrance to
Diamond Head. I was able
to make a contact with Glenn, AA5PK, in Texas from there. We figured that we
were both around 1 degree over the horizon.
All I had was my trusty Arrow, IC-W32A and Hamtronics 450 preamp. Pretty
amazing what these sats can do!

But don't do as I find myself forgetting to do too often - keep those keps
up to date!
