Hi Bill, NZ5N

I was looking at the schematic diagram
http://www.hamcity.com/store/pc/catalog/pdf/220vconversion.pdf

As I suspected the transformer has 4 wires coming off from the
primary windings.

In my opinion the transformer has two identical primary windings
to work in parallel from 100 to 117 volt and in series with 220 volt

For 100 or 117 volt connect terminal 0 with terminal 2 and the terminal
1 to terminal 3 so that both primary windings are in parallel and in phase
after that connect the 117 volt line to terminals 0 and 2

For 220 volt connect terminal 1 to terminal 2 and the 220 volt line to
terminals 0 and 3

Here is the mod to change Yaesu rotors to 220v:
http://www.hamcity.com/store/pc/catalog/pdf/220vconversion.pdf

But perhaps yours has a different transformer if it uses pin 3 for 117v. In
the mod, pins 0 and 3 are for 220v.

This high definition short is a fascinating document. Narrated by NASA's Dr.
Justin Wilkinson, it shows a tour of planet Earth as seen by astronauts,
explaining what are the places that they first focus on while in orbit.

Hello All,

You gotta love a happy ending ;)

Thanks to I8CVS, Domenico; Vince, KB7ADL; and Jerry, K5OE for the advice and
coaching with troubleshooting my Landwehr 70 cm preamp.

I took the cover off and applied 12V, and the two relays closed----or did
they?!?

One side looked good, while the other side didn't quite push the "little
white button" enough to make the contacts meet. It was stuck--just a gentle
push with the finger, and I could tell it had become "unstuck." Inserted
back in line, and bingo! It's working just fine.

I have resisted my urges to spray something down in there...figure I can
unstick it the same way another time, should it happen. Looks like the
preamp was made in 1990, based on the dates of the relays.

What I was seeing seemed like it might be a relay issue on one side (could
hear a rise in noise, so the relay at the output side (rig) was working--but
the relay on the input side (antenna) wasn't. So, when powered, the input
relay didn't switch over correctly--what I was seeing now makes sense!

Anyhow, it wasn't the GaAsFET after all.

Thanks again for the help, guys.

73,

Mark N8MH

Hi Mark, N8MH and All guys on the list.

I am very happy that you solved the problem on your preamplifier and sinapplications.

Can you take a picture on the inside of preamplifier and send it to me by
email ?

I remember that the owner of Landwehr was a 432 MHz EME'r in the early 1973
and I worked him off the moon but actually I don't remember his call letter
from Sweden.

I believe that he dismitted the production of the above preamplifiers many
years ago.

Hello Domenico I8CVS,

I did take pictures while I had the cover off :) You can see and download
them here:

https://sites.google.com/site/marklhammond/hamradio

Indeed, they are labeled "COAXIAL RELAYS" as you suspected.

You can also see the "little white button" on the relays that I mentioned
previously.

All,

This weekend, I'll be operating with the Thunderbird Amateur radio Club from
the anchor & Signal mast of the USS Arizona during Museum Ships weekend.
While most of my operating will be on Sunday on HF, I hope to be able to
work a pass or two on the birds. Not sure what ones but listen for me, I'll
be operating under the club's call W7TBC from grid DM33wk.

I'll try to post a list of passes as the day draws nearer.

For more info on Ships weekend: http://www.nj2bb.org/museum/

Hi!

Just as I got back from Australia a few days ago and have been back
to the office, I will be at another hamfest on Saturday morning. I
will be at the White Mountain Hamfest in Show Low, Arizona. The
hamfest is at the Show Low campus of Northland Pioneer College along
Deuce of Clubs Avenue, hosted by the Kachina Amateur Radio Club.
More information about the hamfest is available at:

http://www.whitemountainhamfest.com/

WD9EWK will be on various satellite passes throughout the hamfest,
which is officially slated to run from 7am to 1pm (1400-2000 UTC).
If I can get into the hamfest site earlier, I will try to work passes
starting around 1300 UTC. Please call WD9EWK if you hear me on the
air. The hamfest is in grid DM44xf.

After the hamfest, I may make a short drive to the DM44/DM54 grid
boundary very close to Show Low for the afternoon and maybe early
evening passes. Depending on when everyone starts shutting down
at the hamfest, I may try for a spot north of the hamfest along
I-40 and look to operate from the DM54/DM55 boundary (a location I
worked from a couple of years ago). Regardless of where I end up
for the afternoon, I will return home Saturday evening.

As with my other hamfests and road trips, I will be happy to confirm
QSOs made with WD9EWK. No need to first send me a QSL card; just an
e-mail with the QSO details will suffice. I will also upload all QSOs
to Logbook of the World.

73!

Nothing heard from AO-51 on 145.150 up, 435.880 down
(hope those are the right freqs). AO-51 was coming out of eclipse
having crossed over the south pacific. High pass.

I want to use a single coax for three rigs, feeding to three antennas.

Rig 1 = 6 meters
Rig 2 = 2 meters
Rig 3 = 70 cm

Each has its own antenna at the remote tower.

Question #1: I should use a triplexer at the shack where the three antennas
combine to the single coax, and a triplexer at the antenna where the three
antennas are located. Correct?
Question #2: any recommendations on which is best? I was looking at the
Comet CFX5140
Question #3: can I run 12V through it to power my mast-mount preamps at the
tower?

Hi Mark, N8MH

I have seen the pictures of your Landwehr 70 cm preamplifier and I
know very well the model of coax relays used in it.

They are 50 ohm coax relays Tohtsu CX 120 P for printed circuits and can
handle 150 watt pep at 500 MHz with an insertion loss of 0.2 dB and a
crosstallk (insulation) of 35 dB with a VSWR of 1,08 at 1 GHz

don't worry about to clean the contacts because they are very large silver
contacts and you just need to remove the side cover with your fingers
and spry a contact cleaner over it.

I use four of them in my switching four polarizations switcher on a 70 cm
crossed yagi as you can read into the AMSAT Journal March/April and
May/June 2007

Have fun

I was not aware of these little pcb coax relays. I think one could
make a neat CP reversal switch using them on a pcb that could handle
normal satellite RF levels (<100w) at a reasonable cost. Much better
than what is used on KLM CP antennas.

One could make switching preamps using two of them with any preamp
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I use a couple CX-600NL in my 2m-eme system for polarity switching,
but do not have enough isolation (48-dB) for preamps when
transmitting 1000w (60dBm). So I use two Narda relays with 80-dB
isolation. I am going to use one of the CX-600NL for 6m-eme
switching 1100w where isolation is 60-dB.
