This is the important part:

"At this time the command team is turning the repeater on and off during
some US passes, mainly in the afternoon, and only as available. The repeater
is open to all when this happens."

It's only going to be on when a command station is around and available to
do it, until we get the process automated. I haven't had the chance to turn
it on since Sunday afternoon.

I understand. I am not trying to be a pain or ungrateful. I realize
AO-51 is having some troubles (based on your last status updates) but
the above statements are still unclear when I should or shouldn't go
out to listen to a pass. That's all I was saying.

I want you and the team to do what is necessary obviously to get the
most out of the AO-51 project. I just felt miserable after standing
in the rain twice and hearing nothing!

The typical small satellite projects I have seen in DoD typically cost about
$5 to $10 million or more. Then for DoD, the launch is free (its gets paid
for out of a different pot)..

Wow! Alright, outside DoD and commercial, what does an AMSAT project
typically cost? I had always thought it was less than a million
dollars.

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how/where I can get the code for the AO51, AO27, ISS,
SO50, etc., Google tracking gadgets powered by N2YO? See AO27?s gadget
here:
http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/satInfo.php?satID=7&retURL=/satellit
es/status.php
(halfway down) I see these things on a couple different sites, so there
must be an easier way to get it on my page without creating an entire new
gadget.

BTW, for those of you that will be commuting to Dayton, you can board the
ark in Cincinnati. ;-) It does look like the rain is going to hold off for
most of the weekend:

Friday, 20th: Partly Sunny, 74F
Saturday, 21st: Partly Sunny, 76F
Sunday, 22nd: Mostly Sunny w/ a 30% chance of storms. 80F

AO-51 cost in the neighborhood of 400,000 dollars to build and launch.

Our current project, Fox, is designed as a replacement for the V/U repeater
on AO-51, and as a multi-function RF system for other cubesats. The idea is
to provide better quality RF systems for university cubes, and maybe after
their mission they can retask their satellite to two-way amateur service,
either as a repeater, transponder, or digital. There is a fundraiser widget
on the front page of amsat.org for Fox, and in several other places around
the web and on other websites. You can even add it to your own webpage.

Fox is a 1U cubesat, about 1kg in mass. We expect launch costs alone to be
from 30,000 to 70,000 dollars. Compare that to the number on the fundraising
widget, and you can see how far we have to go. There are many donations that
have been made outside of the widget, but the gap is still large.

The Dayton ARA has been kind enough to offer a matching donation to AMSAT,
3:1 up to 5,000 dollars. So, whether you are headed to Dayton this week or
not, your donation to AMSAT will be 33% matched automatically. Drop a few
dollars through the widget next time you cruise by the AMSAT website, and
help us make Fox a reality. Join AMSAT if you haven't already. Too few of
the everyday users of our satellites are AMSAT members. Membership helps
support AMSAT and our goals to keep amateur radio in space, and if you are a
regular user of satellites like AO-51, you should really support the
organization with your membership dollars.

Labour and components for Sunsat (SO-35) cost around 11 million
South African rand (or 2 million USD at the time). The launch was
sponsored by NASA in exchange for payloads that were flown.

For Sumbandila (SO-67) it was 12 million ZAR (1.7 million USD). The
launch was financed by our Department of Science and Technology.

I'm not sure if this will answer your question. I've used the individual
N2YO pages to check the satellites that I'm interested in with the amateur
birds listed at:

http://n2yo.com/satellites/?c=18

Clicking on an individual link brings up a page giving the details. That
page also has a link which leads to another one which shows the real-time
tracking. It helps to know what the official name or NORAD ID is to get the
right link.

I've put the links to the satellites I track in my bookmark file.

My guess would be that he is passing the DDE satellite position output from
some
tracking program to Google Maps via KML (Keyhole Markup Language)...

See http://code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/ for more info on KML.
