Hi, KA1RRW

I was looking at the passband filter DCI 145-2H with center frequency of 145
MHz but it has a flat responce 4 MHz large from 143 to 147 MHz (see the
skirts diagram) so that it canno't attenuate the very strong POCSAG signal
that HB9BNK has at 147.300 MHz
In addition I have not seen any notch added in all models for 2 meters band.
Do you know if DCI can add a notch to a selected frequency upon customer
request ?
For example 145.900 MHz center pass-band frequency and a notch at
147.300 MHz ? It would be a very good soluction for Werner HB9BNK

You can buy a custom low pass filter for 2-meters from DCI.

Marex had DCI custom build a 2-meter filter for simular usage on Mir.
The filter passed 144.000 - 146.000, and had a notch added for 143.xxx.
The filter worked great.
It reduced most noise out side of the band and it blocked out a 50 watt
transmitter located about 10 meters away.

Ok, I put all of my Comics/Qsl cards on nvllrc.org I usually make one or
two a week and am getting a little better at it. I hope that the control
operators do not take offense, I always have thought that they are supposed
to be semi mean and sarcastic.

So I do appreciate all the work you guys do and hope that no offense is taken.

I have a G5400B AZ/EL rotor which has never had any problems. I am now
reinstalling after being QRT for a long while. Is it possible to crack
these open for simple inspection and a preventative greasing or am I
facing a major tear-down?

Hi Everyone,

Just FYI, plans are coming together for a satellite mini
grid-expedition in early August this year. The idea is to camp out
near Shelter Cove on the remote northern California Lost Coast area.
As much as possible, I'll hike with the portable satellite gear (Twin
FT817ND's, Elk antenna, solar panels and battery) and work from the
grid intersection of CM79, CM89, CN70, and CN80. This is the same
location that was activated on 6m last year for the completion of the
FFMA award -- CM79 is a pretty rare grid, and the adjacent ones aren't
terribly common in the sat community either. As usual, I'll try for
as many linear and FM passes as I can manage.

Operation (and the trip itself!) is still dependant on weather and
other factors, but I just wanted to give the group a heads up on this
one.

Hello Everyone,

AMSAT and ARISS participated in Space Day at the National Air and Space
Museum on the Mall in Washington, DC on Saturday, May 7. We featured display
tables and ARISS had a contact with the ISS. More coverage on this event
will be in upcoming ANS bulletins and in the AMSAT Journal.

Perry, W3PK says at Space Day, AMSAT showed a new version of the AMSAT-OSCAR
slide show. Perry took Dick Daniels, W4PUJ, slides, added captions and
converted them to PowerPoint.

We have added the slide show file as a PDF to the http://www.amsat.org front
page. The link is directly below the paypal donation widget.

This is a fascinating document of AMSAT's proud history, tradition, and
heritage of amateur radio in space.

No problems, Joe....

I've greased mine several times in the past 15 years....

Just be careful when you open and split the housing that you don't
dislodge any of the ball bearings... your name is familiar, I bet
we've worked...

SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-130.01
AMSAT News Service Special Bulletin - ARISSat-1 Update

AMSAT News Service Bulletin 130.01
>From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.
May 10, 2011
To All RADIO AMATEURS
BID: $ANS-130.01

The ARISSat-1 satellite was intended to be activated in April as
part of the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's famous flight.
However, no ground stations reported hearing the satellite. To
follow up, the ARISSat-1 team had a teleconference with represent-
atives of RSC-Energia (Russia) and NASA to request a clarification
of the events and discuss what happened.

According to RSC-Energia, the battery in ARISSat-1 was only charged
once on the ground and was then used for a variety of tests and dur-
ing the February activation event. It was not recharged prior to the
April Yuri Gagarin activity since it can only be charged a limited
number of times on the ISS.

The cosmonauts reported that they activated the satellite and con-
firmed that they heard the signal on the ham radio equipment on board
the ISS. Since the battery was nearly depleted of its original charge,
they switched the satellite off after six hours of operation in order
to prevent over-discharging the battery. The battery was then removed
from the satellite and stored separately as per their normal battery
handling procedures. For more information on this battery, please see
the JAN/FEB 2011 AMSAT Journal.

RSC-Energia reported that their plan is to recharge the battery about
three weeks prior to the EVA deployment. This will give the cosmonauts
time to reinstall the battery and test the satellite to make sure it is
working properly. The EVA deployment is planned for late July of this
year.

[ANS thanks AMSAT Vice-President of Engineering, Tony Monteiro, AA2TX
 for the above information]

Hallo!

I am owner of both the Yaesu G-5400B and the G-5500 azimuth/elevation
controller. Could someone tell me:

What kind of rotators (Azimuth and Elevation) came with the G-5400B?

What kind of rotators (Azimuth and Elevation) came with the G-5500?

None of the rotators are marked with type or part number.

Thank you all for your valuable informations. Yesterday, I carried
the IC910H into the garden and attached a Arrow Antenna directly
to it. Then I listened to AO-7 and FO-29 pointing the Arrow
roughly into the right direction. The result was amazing: I guess,
I have not heard such good signals since quite a while !

So, it is clear, that I must first fix my installation - I have
obviously a problem, which reduces my 'hearing' and I must have
become used to the bad situation over time.

Then, as some of you suggested, I may have to reduce the preamp
gain drastically and can probably go without them.

This will take some time. I will document my findings and inform
you afterwards.

Thanks a lot and 73
Werner, HB9BNK

It does not hurt to aks.
DCI has been very responsive to our Space Station projects.
I can assume that there are many european stations that could
use a 2-meter pass band filter designed for just 144.0 - 146.0.

A notch can be added, but that of course will cost extra.

On a side Note:
Once a month or so, ISS crews will turn on the 143.xxx backup transmitter
for a few orbits. The FM 10k Dev, transmitter will send a carrier for all
of the ground stations to lock on to and test with.
If you are trying to work the 2-meter station on ISS While the 143.xxx
transmitter is active, the ham reciever will be deaf!
You may still have some down link beacon packets from the Digipeater, but it
will not be able to hear you.
The DCI filter project for ISS was rejected as not required.
PS Ham Voice contacts are also affected while 143.xxx is active.

During one of the afternoon passes, I can't believe that some fool was
actually playing loud music. Shameful.

Dear friends,
I am herewith enclosing the mail received from Shri. T. Parimalarangan,

On his behalf, I kindly request all the HAMSAT VO-52 users across the globe
to send in their valuable (4 points as mentioned below) feed back as
requested by HAMSAT Ops Dir. The feed backs can be sent directly to him at:
tprangan@xxxxxx.xxx and a copy to me at: wmy@xxxx.xxx.xx

On this 6th anniversary of HAMSAT VO-52, we thank all the users who have
provided us their feed back last year. All the feed backs have been complied
and presented to the HAMSAT Mission Management Board and for the records.
The MMB has expressed it happiness looking at the quantity and quality of
feed backs received from various parts of the Globe.

We are very hopeful, that we would be getting a good response this year as
well and many more years to come.
Thanks in advance.

of the onboard behaviour as seen from the ground)

3 Comparison with its contemporaries

Lee,

The QRM was most likely not caused by a ham, I've had interference from
Mexican telephone stations that apparently use the same or close frequency
as AO-27. This was probably something similar. Not sure if there is a
solution.

That being said, I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong ;)

Sven,
The question is moot since the elevation rotor was only one of a kind-
similar to the KR500 Kenpro and they made several rotors of the Azimuth end
and none were the really sturdy units since the AZ EL system was designed to
operate with lighter loads in the VHF and UHF ranges of antennas. Don't
believe you may ever find a model # for what they sold these under.
Good Luck.

Dee, NB2F
