Yup,
Took a six iron head and attached it to a tool handle. He took three shots,
shanked the first two but according to Sheppard the third went "Miles &

Hi there.
Can anyone tell me if so67 is back on air for amateur use yet. I read on the
http://www.amsatsa.org.za/ site
that it's getting used for other mean's.
"Amateur Radio operation on SO67 will be suspended from 18 April for a
period to allow SunSpace to carry out tests on world-wide basis using the
transponder that normally carries the amateur operation. The initial test
period will be one month but may be longer if additional tests are required."
I thought I read on here that it was back on for amateur use?

There is a tremendous amount to learn right now if you are one who organizes
or promotes events.
Compare what occurred on this planet on April 12, when thousands of parties
were held covering every continent, school lesson plans established, and
incredible, informative Web sites established - including a celebratory
movie - for the celebration of Yuri Gagarin's achievements ... versus what
is happening for the anniversary of Alan Shepard's flight.
As I wrote a few months ago here, public relations professionals and event
promoters should look at what yurisnight.net accomplished with their site.
Media kits ... videos ... logos for the media ... press contact info ...
VERY impressive.
There's time for "us" to develop such resources for ARISSat-1's deployment
... or for the AMSAT-Fox project. Creating those media materials didn't cost
the yurisnight.net folks a bundle. But the results can only HELP AMSAT and
ARISS worldwide. We have the talent pool to do it ...

Dear Friends,
It gives us great pleasure and satisfaction to say that 'HAMSAT-VO 52'
has completed 6 years of successful operation in orbit. HAMSAT was
launched on 5th May 2005 aboard PSLV-C6 from Sriharikotta.
The transponder and the beacon on-board were never been off the air,
even for a second from the time they were switched 'ON'. Looking at
the health parameters, HAMSAT is still in good condition and we are
sure it would provide fruitful services for many more years to come.
On this happy occasion,we express our sincere thanks to the entire
ISRO HAMSAT project team for this great feat. Our thanks to
AMSAT-India, Kumar VU2BGS and Willaims PEIRAH for their contributions.

I was only 5 years old at the time and I don't remember either Shepard's or
Grissom's Mercury flights. I do recall, though, that John Glenn's mission
received a lot of publicity, even here in Canada. That might explain why
mention of Freedom 7 often results in "huh?" from people.
By the way, the flight of Freedom 7 is portrayed in both the movie "The
Right Stuff" and in the first episode of the HBO series "From The Earth To
The Moon". The air-ground traffic in the latter was taken from actual
mission transcripts.
I also have a DVD copy of the NASA film "Freedom 7". It runs for about half
an hour, nearly twice as long as the flight itself. I think I'll watch it
tomorrow.

Dear friends
It's indeed a great achievement. No doubt, Alan Shepard's flight 50
years ago have paved the way for what United States is today in the
area of manned missions. His contribution has not only helped the US,
but the World as a whole in exploring the frontiers of space for the
development of mankind on the Earth.
On this great day, we salute and pay our tributes to this 'Great Soul'
for his unparalleled contribution. We in India, join everyone in the
United States and else where, in expressing our greetings and good
wishes on this historic occasion.

That was shown on the live TV feed during one of Shepard and Mitchell's

Hi Mani, VU2WMY
I agree with you and in my opinion VO-52 is actually the best satellite
with a linear transponder, no changes in mode of operation, always ON
operating in all orbits with a great signal, very sensitive, with an AGC
working very well and easy to operate.
Actually VO-52 is the only satellite that I work every day with success.
When VO-52 is over Europe the most part of users are from Italy.
Congratulations to AMSAT-India. ISRO AMSAT project team and to
William PE1RAH for the 6th Anniversary of HAMSAT -VO-52 !

AMSAT-BB:
I am a relatively new ham (1.5 months) and I have caught the satellite
bug. I own a Kenwood TH-D72A which from reading this list and some
others is a great little HT to operate satellites.
The issue is an antenna. I live in an antenna restricted area so I am
not sure what to do.
I have read about the Arrow Antenna:
http://www.arrowantennas.com/arrowii/146-437.html
My goal is to work minimally the ISS! :-)
Can folks suggest a portable setup that could work with my HT? Or are
my expectations too high?

Thanks to all who worked on this great bird!
One of the most fun to operate and you can always count on good old VO-52 to
be on when its over you.
Lets hope it continues!
