Hi Lou, W5DID
Do you know how many number of charging cycles the above battery has
been already charged by the Russian team ?

As mentioned previously, the LISATS repeater on 146.940 does a good job of
re-transmitting audio during a launch. I believe they come on an hour or two
before launch time, and it's a great place to listen.
Also give a holler on our 442.400 repeater http://k4rpt.com/ we are south
of KSC in Melbourne, but have reasonable coverage up that way, especially if
you have a mobile radio. HT's should work OK, but will probably be spotty,
although we have had people check in from the Canaveral National Seashore
with HT's with no problem. We also re transmit some launch audio, but on an
informal basis. Echo/IRLP is available as well.
A good repeater list is at http://florida-repeaters.org/dblist.htm search
for Brevard County. An incomplete list is at
http://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/LocationSearch.php?state_id=12&loc=Breva
rd&type=county
That way you can have someone to talk to while sitting in the traffic that
is likely to ensue!

All,
My plan is to activate DN75 on 4/22/2011Z by around 0100Z. I will
travel to DN85 later in the day 4/22Z and return to DN75 for an overnight
stay. I will operate from DN75 on some morning passes 4/23/2011Z. I will
be returning home by around 0100Z on 4/24/2011Z.
Look for me on ao51, ao27, and so50.

Wow, Dave, did you know that they close down DVNP after Easter for
the rest of the summer? It can reach +125F or higher at Easter so be
prepared with lots of water. I loved to visit Bodie and Scottie's
Castle. I lived in Barstow 1971-1976. The desert was my playground
with my old 66 GMC suburban V6.
But been there, done that, and don't miss it! ;-) GL on the sats!

Thanks for posting this...I'm happy that they had a PSLV success after
several problems. I assume this is their last Russian upper stage, and not
the indigenous one that they are developing. Things are a little tight for
them with their upper stage inventory...

I didn't know they close down DVNP after Easter. I do know that the Furnace
Creek Golf Course is open year 'round and you can have a round of golf in
July on one of the cool 127 degree days. I believe proof of a will and
testament is required before starting the round. :-)
As for Mono Lake. If I recall correctly, that's where the Clint Eastwood
movie High Plains Drifter was filmed as the "fictious" town of Lago.
Hope you have a good time in the desert.

Awesome! Yeah, I'm hoping the weather won't turn extreme on us. As
it is now, forecast for mid next week at Furnace Creek is 100F, not
too bad by comparison! With the elevation and nighttime temperatures,
I'm expecting lows to get down to the high 30's near the Racetrack
Playa. Talk about extremes!!
My brother's coming from Ontario Canada, so the desert will be a new
experience for him. Will take him on a repeat of routes I've done in
recent years. The Eureka Dunes are beautiful (plus there are the free
airshows from the low-flying jets there!), and if all goes well we'll
take a side-trip south of the dunes to see Steele Pass, the Marble
Bath, and the petroglyphs along the canyon walls there. After the
Dunes, we'll head to the Racetrack Playa so he can see the "moving"
rocks, not sure if we'll take the route from Death Valley proper and
in by Teakettle Junction, or if we'll continue Steele Pass to Saline
Valley and go up Lippencott. Either way we'll likely stop at Ubehebe
Crater to see just how dramatic the results of a steam explosion can
be. After Racetrack, we'll head to Furnce Creek to enjoy the heat!
We'll be travelling in the Tacoma 4x4 that I've used previously down
there -- can't be too cautious being so far away from immediate help,
so we'll be taking it slow and easy, with plenty of water, also
provisions, repair supplies, etc. Will also have comm via truck's HF
radio (I'll probably listen on 17m during day, 40m at night) and the
SPOT for signalling if needed.

Ha! Yes, the closer to summer the more the will is needed! And
interesting trivia about Mono!

Thank you for keeping us up to date, Lou.
Is it a surprise that the battery was low? It appears (from Wikipedia) that
silver zinc batteries have a negligible self-discharge rate. If the
ARISSat-1 switches are off, should there be any drain? (I know from
previous updates that it is so far unknown whether the battery was actually
disconnected during storage).
Thanks again,

Graham,
My vote would be RG-188A/U. See my AMSAT-IARU Link Model Rev 2.4.3; Line
Loss Tools and Tables Tab; First entry. Use the calculator there to get
losses at various frequencies. It's PTFE wrapped and there are SMA and SMC
connectors made for it. Or you can solder it directly to the transmitter
output, if you are careful. It's pretty flexible and can have about the
shortest bend radius of any coax available. In the end, however, that might
be your biggest problem in a Cubesat - making the short bends.
