I will be there. Got a pass from my senator. My second launch! (The first
was STS-1!) And yeah, I was a bit unhappy to see that the President will be
there, mainly because of security and also taking up space in the best spots
:-)

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry, here and directly. I found
AOS.exe, and
the satellite scripting (red, blue, yellow "orbit" icon) in NOVA.
I am pretty embarrassed about the latter, since I have owned NOVA for a long
time
_and_ I am a software professional. I just assumed if it wasn't under
Utilities-->Listing, the capability wasn't there. RTFM, I know, I know...

This is an update on the ARISSat activities.
We had a telecon with the ARISSat team in Russia. Here is the situation as
described by them. The Russian suit battery that was intended to be used on
ARISSat was used during testing both on the ground and onboard ISS when it
first arrived. When it was tested prior to the planned April 12 operation,
it was discovered that the battery was low on charge.
The suit battery's are specified for only five cycles of charge.
It was decided to not recharge the battery at this time in order to keep the
number of cycles as low as possible and thus saving the battery for the
actual mission. That deployment is currently scheduled for July 26. We are
still trying to get more information on the storage status and the battery
health from the Russian team. We will keep you informed as we prepare for
the eventual deployment of ARISSat.

> Thanks Eric. You are correct. In this newer PL scheme, the 67 Hz tone
turns the transmitter on for two minutes, and the uplink receiver is open
squelched. If someone else on the satellite has their tone on and activates
the repeater, you can have a QSO with them in the 2 minute window. The open
squelch also prevents the logjam effect we see on the older PL mode, where
multiple stations may be transmitting simultaneously with none getting
through, and maybe not realizing why.

This is an update on the ARISSat activities.
We had a telecon with the ARISSat team in Russia. Here is the situation as
described by them. The Russian suit battery that was intended to be used
on ARISSat was used during testing both on the ground and onboard ISS when
it first arrived. When it was tested prior to the planned April 12
operation, it was discovered that the battery was low on charge.
The suit battery's are specified for only five cycles of charge.
It was decided to not recharge the battery at this time in order to keep
the number of cycles as low as possible and thus saving the battery for the
actual mission. That deployment is currently scheduled for July 26. We are
still trying to get more information on the storage status and the battery
health from the Russian team. We will keep you informed as we prepare for
the eventual deployment of ARISSat.

Early next week (April 25th) I'll be taking my brother on a tour of
the remote backroads of Death Valley National Park, and I'll bring my
portable satellite station along. This will primarily be a camping
and sightseeing trip, but I'll try to be on a number of
morning/evening passes of the linear and FM sats. My tentative plan
for now is the following locations and grids:
Sun pm / Mon am: Bodie ghost town or Mono Lake in DM08 on Sunday,
Bishop area DM07 Monday.
Mon pm / Tue am: Eureka Dunes in DM17
Tue pm / Wed am: Racetrack Playa in DM16
Wed pm / Thu am: Furnace Creek in DM16
