John, go to my site and take a look at quadfil1.zip...It has
construction notes and pics for 2m and 435 quadrifilars. Mount them
vertically and they work just fine for most of the pass.
Measure the tubing accurately for the 435 to keep vswr down...
They are easy to build, inexpensive, and have used them for years on
all of the sats you mentioned.
And they will even receive Phil's new modes!!!

I've carried my Arrow antenna in it's wrap case in both carry on and checked
baggage with no problems. Heck, I've carried all sorts of radio equipment
with me with no problems. The only question I got was when I had my "rubber
duck" antenna disconnected from my radio and on the x-ray they saw a coil
but couldn't figure out what it was. As soon as they saw what it was they
laughed and told me that they didn't know what it was on the x-ray machine.
No problems... no questions.

I am using an Olympus digital audio recorder for logging LEO passes,
because I can directly transfer a .wma to my PC from it (versus the
tape recorder I used in the 90's).
I am using an extension clip-on mic. I am finding that it generates a lot of
RF crud on 435, enough to swamp the RX if I am not careful.
Beside a torroid on the mic cable, and maybe a foil/mesh cover over the
recorder
(maybe one of those new-fangled RF-ID protecting wallets),
anything else I should try?

I'm trying to connect to ISS using AGWPE with my soundcard. can anyone help

documentation on the AMSAT site or elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated!

For logging?
Or some other reason.
I have been using pen and paper then transferring to the
computer log file.

Hello Bill,
What does the manufacturer say ?
Maybe it is a defective unit. Replace.
Does it have a built in microphone ? Use the internal mic.
hardwire the transceiver RX channel to the audio input, with a suitable
shielded cable.

Have you tried it without the clip-on mic? I used an Olympus recorder for
quite a while with no problems. I hooked the speaker output of the radio
through a "Y" connecter directly to my recorder and headphones. The first
set of headphones that I used were of the "noise blanking" variety and were
battery powered. When I transmitted the rf would wreak havoc with them. I
switched to another set of standard headphones and that eliminated the
problem.

Have you tried recording with just the mic on the recorder? Do you
hear the crud without the extension mic? Have you tried using a Y
cable and patching the audio from the radio to your recorder's mic
jack and an earpiece or headphone?
With the way electronic items are manufactured these days, you may
find that you aren't able to sufficiently cut down on the interference you
hear around 435 MHz. Can you borrow another make/model of digital
recorder and try it in place of your Olympus recorder?
I have used Sony digital audio recorders over the years, and now use
the ICD-PX820 recorder. It may still be in production, or replaced by
a newer model - something Sony, like other manufacturers, tends to
do frequently. It has a mini-USB jack, works like a USB thumb drive
with many computers (Windows, Mac, Linux) without using special
software, and stores recordings in MP3 format. I have never had RFI
issues with these recorders when working the satellites in the past
5+ years.

There are LOTS of reasons that the bird could have failed, in my viewpoint
the BEST one is that the battery has some issues. Operating the vehicle in
a thermal environment that it was not designed for would be a first guess,
followed by some sort of "crib death" issue, and next comes parts connected
wrong.
In any event the failure does not bode well for a successful sat deployment.
See if this makes it on the board. Robert G. Oler WB5MZO

My understanding was that the D-700 was turned off. Packet transmission
began soon after the posted time for ARISSat to be powered off. Since
theory and conjecture abound I would toss out a theorie that they did turn
it on but were unaware it was not transmitting. Until they actually say
what happened, assuming they say what really happened, we'll never know.

Hi David,
Agree with your comments, I am sure many were waiting egarly to hear the
signals from ARRISsat.I think the team must have documented some key
learnings from this which will help during the July launch of the satellite.
