For those who are familiar with ISS crew operations, a question. Assuming
they don't pull an all nighter, when is the crew likely to get back on the
problem? I am deciding when to set my alarm clock. ;)

Ya know this stuff never gets old.? I've been messing around with this stuff
for about 50 years.? This afternoon I finished installing my FT-8800 in my
truck.? I felt as nervous as when I was a novice with my home brew 6L6 (look
it up).? I worked 5 guys on AO-51.? I just discovered a new wrinkle to this
never ending hobby, my wife thinks I need a intervention, or help.? Craig,
it works super!

Welcome back to the sats. I did not hear the pass you mentioned, but
typically AO-51 is very busy on mid-day passes, even more so on weekends.
The early morning passes are usually better. Of the FM birds, AO-51 is the
busiest, AO-27 is a bit less busy, and SO-50 is usually not very busy.
SO-67 is also not that busy, but it has been turned on just for a week or
two a month. The SSB birds are all uncrowded, with room for everybody.

Hello,
http://www.nasa.gov/directorates/somd/reports/iss_reports/index.html
reports ARISsat-1 has been setup...
Dmitri performed hardware setup and test activation of the TEKh-43
Radioskaf-B "Kedr" microsatellite in the MRM2 Poisk module, connecting it to
an 825M3 Orlan battery and checking out its 430 MHz transmitter from the
satellite control panel. [The small satellite was named Kedr in honor of the
call sign of Yuri Gagarin. It will be activated onboard the station
tomorrow, April 12, i.e., Cosmonautics Day, when the world celebrates the
anniversaries of the first human flight into space and the first Space
Shuttle flight. Development, manufacturing and launch of Kedr is the first
phase in Russia's integrated program approved by UNESCO, with the goal to
create and operate mini-satellites with a mass less than 100 kg by combined
efforts of students across the world. Once Kedr is activated, it will
transmit 25 greetings in 15 languages, pictures of Earth, and telemetry data
from science hardware and support systems, as well as historical audio
recordings. 50 years after Gagarin's fl!
ight all ham radio operators across the world thus will have a unique
opportunity to hear the famous "Poyekhali" (Let's Go!) from Earth orbit.]
The part of connecting it to an Orlan battery and 430MHz transmitter has me
confused...
Hopefull to hear something.

Hi David
Check you setup with other soundcard decoding software e.g.? MMSSTV.
?
ARISSat-1 tlm decoder V.4 was unstable and it use to shut itself wit the
soundcard out put on my PC!! (Dell P4, OS XP).
The last version V5 is so stable at least until now.

Let me clarify this battery charging issue for ARISSAT.
The crew has the capability to charge the battery onboard ISS. The battery
is a Russian suit battery. That means they have a certified charger on board.
The system was designed such that it's easy to remove the battery and charge
it. From what we can tell they elected to not do that.
We have very little knowledge as to what the status of ARISSat is. There has
been no word from the Russians.
If any of the ARISS or AMSAT team has word. It will be published as quickly
and as widely as we can do it.

work stations that are the easiest to recognize and that includes what

Come up with a documented, better phonetic alphabet and get it
internationally recognized and recommended and then this discussion will go
away (or at least be changed to an argument between the old and new
standard). As long as there is no official alternative (and I don't give a
rip about how long the geographic non-documented non-standard has been
used), the internationally recognized standard is what should be used. You
can play your word games all day long on DX, but as soon as you start
working emcomm - you'd better be using the accepted standard or you're
putting people's lives at stake.

The ISS crew generally operates on UTC time. Their day begins at 06:00 UTC
and ends at 21:30 UTC. You can find the ISS crew schedule at
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/timelines/4_2011_tl.html
The sheduled times sometime changes, depending on the activities planned for
the day.

Hi Bob,
congrats on your new mobile setup. I also get excited every time when I
manage to get a sat QSO from my mobile (FT-8900 + mag whip currently). There
is usually one or two good orbits about the time when I try leave my job in
the afternoon so every now and then I try to make few qsos from my car on
the top floor of the parking building of my office. Bit hard to explain my
collagues why I have to be in my car within few minutes time window, to talk
to someone over radio ;)

To those who intimately KNOW ARISSat-1 - Does this all make sense to you?
Especially the part, " ... checking out its 430 MHz transmitter from the

answer - but does what this statement say "feel" like all is well?
Clint
" ... Dmitri performed hardware setup and test activation of the TEKh-43

checking out its 430 MHz

Bob,
What antenna are you using for your mobile? I've uplinked on 2m using a
standard 5/8 wave dual band mobile mag mount. But I used a 70cm yagi for
the downlink.

Ya know this stuff never gets old. I've been messing around with this stuff
for about 50 years. This afternoon I finished installing my FT-8800 in my
truck. I felt as nervous as when I was a novice with my home brew 6L6 (look
it up). I worked 5 guys on AO-51. I just discovered a new wrinkle to this
never ending hobby, my wife thinks I need a intervention, or help. Craig, it
works super!
