Thanks to Angelo N5UXT for posting the news and
to all of you who sent emails and posts.

Working grids on the birds is akin to working DX
on the HF bands. The hunt is always on and you never
know what might pop up when you least expect it.

The big jump in my totals is primarily due to two
dedicated satellite grid expeditioners, namely Jim
ND9M & ND9M/MM and Yuri UT1FG/MM. Water grids are hard
to come by, especially in the quantities that these two
operators have activated. Their operations have given
new life to the birds and although there has been QRM,
that's part of the hobby. We are not talking on cellphones
here.

There are countless other operators that have activated grids
away from their home in that total. After the excitement we
sometimes forget about the sacrifices they made to give us new
grids to work. I won't mention callsigns lest I leave some out,
but thanks to all of you that travel around. Even if you just
go to one grid away from home, you'll likely give someone a new
one. It's great fun and you will have just as much excitement
doing it as the operators have who work you.

It is good to see all of the activity on the birds, both FM
and Linear. It's just one of the many facets of ham radio.
Thanks again to all of you that helped me get to 900!

73,
John K8YSE

Yuri, UT1FG/MM, is currently reviewing a draft of a
proposed qsl procedure for his maritime mobile operation
on satellites. As soon as he finalizes the procedure, it
will be posted here on the -bb. Please hold off on sending
for cards.

Yuri is currently at anchor in FN58 awaiting dock space to unload
their cargo. He will likely leave the ship shortly and return home
for a well deserved vacation. He has certainly gone all out to
work the birds in hundreds of wet grids. Thanks Yuri!

Hey everyone,

I am heading up the July 4th 13 Colonies Special Event again this year. I am
still in need of a satellite operator from NH, CT, NJ, and most likely RI.
If you are from one of those states and want to be a part of the event email
me directly.

Thanks,

Thanks for the assistance in locating the software. I just took another look
on dk3wn's site and unless I'm doing something wrong, I don't see it in the
"software" page anywhere. Yet it is on the other page.

Guess that's what I get for not fully checking out Mike's page - which I

This seems to be the season for milestones. Congrats to Nick, KB1RVT,
who worked me today in EK97 for his Grid #600. That's an impressive
number in anyone's book, but all those grids were worked in just his
first two years, and on top of that, the only antenna he used was an
Arrow! Way to go, Nick!

Here's the sked for tonight and tomorrow:

VO52 - 26/0111Z - EK97

VO52 - 26/0248Z - EK97 or hopefully EK98

FO29 - 26/0901Z - EK88

AO7 - 26/2106Z - EL80

AO51 - 26/2111Z - EL80 - Immediately following AO7

FO29 - 26/2208Z - EL80

AO7 - 26/2253Z - EL80 or EL70

VO52 - 27/0130Z - EL70

FO29 - 27/0809Z - EL71

Probable, but not sure

AO7 - 26/1207Z - EK88 or EK89

After the just completed VO52 pass that started here at 26/0111Z, I
checked with the ship's bridge watchstanders who confirmed that we won't
cross into EK98 in time for the next VO52 pass; we won't cross the line
until a half hour or so afterward. That's too bad because that
particular pass will cover nearly all of the US as well as Latin
America, and at a halfway decent hour too.

So since I've already been from EK97 on seven passes today on five
different satellites, I'll forego the next VO52 pass and grab a little
sleep so I can get up in time for FO29 to hit the eastern areas at least
while we're hopefully still in EK98. This will likely be the only pass
available for EK98 as we'll cross out that grid pretty soon afterward.

I'll still be on FO29 at 26/0901Z, but we should have crossed into EK88
by then.

Jim, ND9M / VQ9JC

Thanks for the info. I was planning on sending out some cards this weekend.

Yuri,
I second John comment about your work in getting all these wet grids. I do
really appreciate it. Hope you have a very restful, enjoyable, and
deserving vacation. Thanks again.

Who was the EN96 on today on the 2200Z pass of AO51? I thought I copied it
as VE3TYN but according to QRZ.COM that isn't correct.

Just picked up a Kenwood TM-251A and it sure hears the sats great. Glad I
got it to use on the FM birds.

Omar (XE1AO) and I (LU6QI) made a QSO on AO7 in SSB Mode B at 2355 UTC
on March 25, 2011, during orbit 66392. I also contacted in the same
orbit with Keith (N4ZQ). In each QSO our respective QTHs were a little
more than 7000 km apart.
AO7 is working great and it would be wonderful to attempt others QSOs
with the bird at low angle over the horizon

Marvelous job on the March, 2011 issue of the AMSAT-UK's OSCAR NEWS.
WONDERFUL, frame-able cover photo of Yuri Gagarin (I am giving away sets of
Yuri postage stamps from 1962 as door prizes at my Yuri Party April 12, by
the way).

And although I differ with AMSAT-UK's "bottom line" regarding iPhone/iPod
touch sat tracking apps, my personal choice - PocketSat3 - is actually in
second place, according to the article's chart!

the download link for the RASCAL software was on my satellites -> DELFI-C3

Under the software section you will find only software written by myself.

But meanwhile Wouter sent the original link to the new DELFI website...

Can anyone tell me where I need to send the supporting documents?

This is exactly why I haven't registered with LoTW, and won't register.
If they can't take enough care to run their website competently, how do
I know I can trust them to take care of my personal details?

Really, you want me to send a copy of my amateur radio licence and
driving licence or passport to some random person in the US? No, I
don't think I'll be doing that...

People should have to sit a written exam similar to the old-style City
and Guilds RAE before being allowed on the Internet, never mind actually
running websites.

Hello All
Before I start I am not cheap just frugal
Want to make my antenna polarization selectable with relays LHCP or RHCP
For both UHF and VHF I really don't want to buy a commercial ones
Does anyone know what type or where I can purchase theses types of relays
I would like to have them rated for aprox 50w for UHF and VHF
12vdc coil would be nice,I plan on energizing them with a separate power
supply
Thanks to all who read and respond to this
