Hello Mike,
I suppose you have set the time zone of your location with the Windows
Control panel and your PC clock shows the correct local time.
In the SatPC32 menu "Setup", "Observer" leave the default setting "auto"
for the item "UTC offset". Then you can switch between displaying UTC and
local time by clicking on the control "L" ("U" rsp.). in the upper left
area of the SatPC32 window. All times displayed in SatPC32 will immediately
switch between UTC and your local time, but the satellite position in the
map will remain unchanged, of course. In menu "Options" you can choose
whether you want the program to start with showning UTC or local time.

73s, Erich, DK1TB

The default time zone setting for SatPC32 is "auto" which gets time zone
information from Windows. Leave it unchanged, and your local time is
always correct (assuming Windows is set up for the correct time zone).
Nothing to change when daylight savings comes and goes.

I would like to say "Thank You" to all who manage AO-51 and all of the
other Amateur Radio Satellites. I am new to satellites but not new to
Amateur Radio. I recently celebrated 50 years as a Ham and my first
contact via a satellite. My first contact via AO-51 brought back so
many memories of my first contact as a Novice at 11 years old. When I
mentioned that I was making my first contact via satellite, the users
that afternoon welcomed me with open arms and I soon had stations
calling me as a #2, a #3, and even a #4 contact. Everyone was so
forgiving of my excitement with getting calls mixed up, unbelievable
phonetics, and probably poor operating etiquette. There is nothing more
exciting than to hear your call coming through the satellite after you
get enough nerve to transmit. I listened for at least 100 passes before
I dared hit the transmit switch. After all the listening, I still
probably got it all mixed up. To me this was the ultimate stage
fright! Thank you again to all involved. You gave me an opportunity to
add another day in my life that I will never forget. What a great hobby
we have!!!!

Here's the list of passes that I'm expecting to make tomorrow, those
that are probable but occur during my work hours, and a few that are
coin tosses. I want to mention first however that I received no fewer
than seven queries today alone about whether I'd be putting out a sked
update; 'nuff said about that.

Planned:

FO29 - 16/0930Z - DL41

AO7 - 16/1436Z - DL50

VO52 - 16/1459Z - DL50

AO27 - 16/1944Z - DL50

VO52 - 17/0317Z - Probably DK69

VO52 - 17/0455Z - DK69

FO29 - 17/1016Z - DK68

Probable

AO7 - 16/1243Z - DL41 or DL40 (navigation chart says DL40 but only by a
couple miles)

Maybe

AO51 - 16/1011Z - DL41

FO29 - 16/1112Z - DL41

VO52 - 16/1633Z - DL50

AO27 - 16/2125Z - DL50 or DK59

FO29 - 16/2234Z - DL50 or DK59

AO51 - 16/2251Z - DL50 or DK59

FO29 - 17/0020Z - DK59

AO51 - 17/0031Z - DK59

Hi Dave,

I start the "hanging" part of the cable a bit out on the cross-arm, about a
foot away from the tower pole. Seems to work. The attachment to the
cross-arm is a loose loop, so that the arm can rotate with Elevation,
without torquing the cables. Admittedly, my "tower" is a bit simpler than
yours, but you can probably scale things a bit (hang them farther out on the
arm).

To all
I have a Loral latching relay that has gone belly up in the switching
department and would like to know if anyone has done a mod to switch the
relays just by applying the voltage to them without going through the
printed circuit.

I'll still be in DL41 on the next FO29 pass at 16/1112Z. But we should
cross into DL40 at about 1240Z and be ready to go for AO7 which comes up
locally at 1243Z. We'll be DL40 for just over an hour, so that will the
only pass for the grid.

I'll be on from DL50 on AO7 pass at 16/1436Z and VO52 at 16/1459Z.

As for the AO51 pass at 16/1011Z, it was a low one for me at 4 degrees
and I barely heard any sigs. I put my call out once when the
watchstanding bridge office grabbed me because an equipment alarm went
off at just the wrong moment. It turned out to be no big deal here, but
it killed any chance of putting DL41 on AO51.

Hello James
Yes, satellite communications is a fantastic part in our hobby. I am a
new satellite operator too, but not new to Amateur Radio. I also did my
first contact as
a Novice at 11 years old. Now, I am 22 years old.
?
I am really enjoying make contacts on the birds. It is fantastic,
incredible, gripping, and It has been a great goal for me. I have been
completing my
setup step by step until I reached my first unforgettable satellite contact
with John
K8YSE.
?
Our hobby is fascinating. I love the radio.
?
I hope to hear you on the birds.

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I'd relay a bit of QRM I observed on AO-51 on this
morning's 3/16/2011 1322z pass. The bird was totally quiet (just a
nice carrier) for the first 5 minutes of the pass, but then it sounded
like a repeater was getting into the sat uplink:

3/16 1327z: "Connected, KD7QAF repeater."
3/16 1328z: "KD7QAF repeater disconnected."
3/16 1328z: "hey Stacy did I see you at the corner there by Wendys?"
3/16 1330z: "...repeater in Middleton, Idaho."

Pretty minor as far as QRM goes, but I just wanted to flag it up in
case anyone knows of a KD7QAF repeater (call might have been KD7QAN?)
that's got an output near 145.920. Might be worth letting them know
they're getting into a sat.

Also had a nice chat with Kerry WC7V on the same pass -- I'd forgotten
how nice it is to work AO-51 on the early morning passes, it's a
fantastic satellite!!! The morning passes aren't crowded at all, and
'51 has such beautiful clear audio and great coverage.

Thanks for the heads up. It's likely an echolink or irlp node. Does anyone
have a recording? If we can nail the call down I'll follow up with them.

Well the IC9100 has hit the market, when is SATPC32 going to be updated to
accommodate this new offering from ICOM?

I worked XE2AT this morning on AO7 at 16/1254Z when I was in grid DL40.
He told me later that not only was it a new grid, but that it was grid
#1000 for him. That's a terrific accomplishment!

Congrats Alvaro! Muy bueno!

To our US members,

This information has been disseminated by the ARRL, AMSAT, and other amateur
related news services, but I will recap it here. A bill, HR 607, has been
introduced with the aim of expanding Public Service communications.
However, this bill uniquely proposes to transfer the 420-440 MHz band away
from its current users. Considering that most amateur satellites use these
frequencies, this would effectively end our operations if implemented. We
are working with the ARRL to make this issue public, and to urge our members
to contact their representatives.

For more details on the threat, and on how to respond effectively, see:

There is currently a brief video near the top of the page on HR 607.

http://www.arrl.org/regulatory-advocacy

The regulatory link has multiple articles, updated as needed.

Currently toward the bottom of the page is a review of the situation from
AMSAT's perspective, and a letter representing our unique concerns.

This site will take your call, and generate a letter to your representative
with your name and address in PDF format.

Hi Dave,

KD7QAF is an ex call sign (now AC7VA - Washington) and KD7QAN is a op in
Yuma, AZ. From the looks of his QRZ page he has not been very active, so I
would doubt if he has a repeater.

Thanks for the heads up. It's likely an echolink or irlp node. Does anyone
have a recording? If we can nail the call down I'll follow up with them.
