Hi Greg!

Well, it *did* start out well on Friday. Even with the earthquake. I have
felt lighter earthquakes in the past on trips to California, and one time when
working in Phoenix about 20 years ago. But never anything like I felt
yesterday, and nothing where the severity was 4 or higher (yesterday's
was reported at 5.1 on the Richter scale).
This morning was a perfect storm, so to speak, for a hamfest that also
doubles as an emergency-preparedness show. I had my portable gear,
flashlights, and jumpstart battery packs ready to go. I loaned one of my
flashlights (it has a deployable mini-tripod and the light head is on a hinge
that can be directed downward) to the ARRL DXCC card-checker table,
and they were able to work on applications and look at lots of cards until
the power came back on after 2.5 hours. The power outage affected much
of Yuma, and not just the hamfest site.
All in all, it was a good event. At the end of the hamfest, there was a large
barbecue in the main hall. Almost 300 were there to have some really good
food. Now I'm back where I have been staying for the past couple of nights
in California, before I drive back home tomorrow afternoon.
By the way, thanks to those who worked WD9EWK on 3 different passes
this afternoon - AO-27 around 2135 UTC, then in a 30-minute period starting
at 2235 UTC on FO-29 followed by AO-51.
73!

Open the keps file and look at the first line of data for a given satellite.
The 3rd number group (the first one with a decimal point in it) is the
"epoch time" - the date & time when the orbital parameters were calculated.
The first 2 digits are the year, the next 3 are the Julian date (day # out
of 365), and the decimal portion is the time, expressed as a fraction of a
day.
Looking at the current 2-line set on the AMSAT website, all of the
satellites have an epoch time of either 11047.xxxxx or 11048.xxxxx, meaning
they were calculated on day 47 or 48 of this year.

So how come nobody is talking about Kysat-1 wich will be launched on Feb,
23??? A cubesat which will be FM!!! YAAAA!!!
http://ssl.engineering.uky.edu/missions/orbital/kysat1/about-kysat-1/
Kysat-1 website
http://www.vandenberg.af.mil/index.asp Vandenberg AFB website
Looks pretty real to me unlike the ARRISat which I think they should just
zip tie to the outside of the spacestation somewhere!!! At least then it
would last and they could play with it if need be. Anyway just thinking out
loud.

Nobody is talking because it is FM ;-) ... and LEO :) :)
Thanks for good news. Good luck for Kysat-1 mission, I am waiting for keps.

Looks a good sat that hopefully will eventually function as an AX.25
digipeater.
It still amazes me is how much functionality can be packed into a CubeSat
these days.

Hi All,
For those who can wait for a couple of weeks and who are members of
AMSAT-UK - the good news is that a review of six different Satellite
tracking apps will be appearing in the next edition of Oscar News:)
Issue no 193 will be going to the printers early this week so watch out for
it coming through your letter box!

Bob,
In SatPC32, click on "Satellite" and at the bottom of the window is says
"File Date" with the date of the set.

Bob,
ISS being the odd one is the clue. It is the only object whose orbit is
often reboosted. Usually the problem comes about if you are using the AMSAT
weekly distribution. Note that you can update the NASA.ALL file and it will
give today's date, but the data may be as much as a week old. You can dig
into the actual file and determine the individual satelllite data date as
has been described. The AMATEUR.TXT data are updated daily, sometimes more
often. When you look at the SATPC32 Satellite window, check that both
machines are looking at the same file, preferably AMATEUR.TXT, and that both
have been updated.

I hope to be QRV portable from FN00 as the weather improves, mainly
during weekday afternoons on the FM birds.
I'll update my status as time permits on the QRZ site (search KT3L).
