Boy, all this talk, I really dont care to voice my opinion on this, I think
plenty has been said. I did want to know if anyone has any recordings of me?
I was curious to see what I sound like. I know you guys are probably rolling
your eyes and hitting the delete right now!! Dont hurt to ask, lighten up,
enjoy life. Should I do something stupid so you all can yell at me for a
bit? I could unplug my headphones and squeal again???

Hi Kevin,

You may want to check K8YSE's web site. John has current recordings of LEO
passes and a bunch of other useful info.

I think it is: www.papay.com (or just Google 'k8yse')

Hi Kevin,

I think I remember hearing you on a pass a few weeks ago, but I can?t
remember the exact pass. If you keep a log of what passes you have been on,
go to K8YSE's website and see if a recording is there:
http://www.papays.com/sat/general.html

Hi,

I am in the process of uploading my logs to LoTW, and I sent a request for a
certificate for KD8KSN/8 to cover my portable operations in Ohio, and I set
the begin date and left the end date blank. After I did that I realized
that you can only have one location per certificate. What should I do in
this case? Do I need separate certs for each portable operation in Ohio, or
is there are way to go in and change the location? Will ARRL allow you to
have 3,4,5,etc., certs for KD8KSN/8? If I cannot change the location, is
there a way to get in and set the end date?

I do not understand the tone of some of the comments on this simple
question. Banned from awards for life? Seriously? It's a HOBBY. I think some
people take this stuff way too seriously.

To answer the original posters question, K8YSE has several recording of the
sats on his website:

http://www.papays.com/sat/general.html

And as a backup recorder, if you have a cell phone, it has a record or memo
option.

Certificates are used for the callsigns you use, not for locations you
operated
from. You'll get one certificate for KD8KSN/8, and that's fine. Not
setting the
end date was a good thing. Once you have that back from ARRL and loaded
into your TQSL program, you can define as many station locations in TQSL as
needed where you used KD8KSN/8 as your call.

For me, I have one WD9EWK certificate but probably 70 or 80 different station
locations based on just that call. I have certificates for other
calls I have operated
with and station locations defined for those calls, but the one WD9EWK
certificate
has been the only one needed for my satellite operating in the continental
USA.
TQSL holds all those defined station locations for all calls.

Good luck, and hope to see some matches from you in LOTW soon. Please feel
free to e-mail me directly if you have additional questions.

"Good luck, and hope to see some matches from you in LOTW soon."

Now that brings up a question for something I do not understand in LoTW.

Patrick, we have several contacts and confirmations but only 1 shows in
LoTW. Does that mean we only get credit for 1 grid when in reality there may
be 2-3 or more ??

Any clarification appreciated

Yes I am serious
Yes it is a hobby.
But also there are achievement awards. That are to some not worth
anything but to others they are worth a LOT, it shows their skills and
effectiveness of THEIR STATION! And THEIR OPERATING ABILITIES, Not
copying the information, and getting the info from a third source is
cheating in the purest form. And taints the achievements the rest of us
have made by making the contact with our station alone.

Maybe I'm old skool on this, but to me unless you did everything
yourself to make the contact, then you did not make the contact.

Simple,

This entire thread has been a great example of exactly what is wrong
with not just the amsat community, but the hobby in general.

Get back to talking to people and playing with technology. Every time
you bring a competitive element into something, it all just goes to
hell. Stop the dick-size contest, and start playing with radios.

Well, that sure was easy enough. That was one of the first times in awhile
that I have followed the instructions on something and it has actually
worked! ;-)

I uploaded all QSOs that were in my log DATED **10-24-2010** TO PRESENT. Up
until Oct. 24 I used paper logs. 268 regular and 73 portable QSOs were
uploaded with only 40 matches (?????). My home QTH is self explanatory, but
here is a breakdown of my portable uploads:

KD8KSN/8 ? EN80sa/EM89sx ? October 30, 2010 ? 22 QSOs

KD8KSN/8 ? EN70vb ? November 29, 2010 ? 7 QSOs

KD8KSN/8 ? EN90ba/EM99bx ? December 17, 2010 ? 30 QSOs

KD8KSN/8 ? EN90ba/EM99bx ? January 29, 2011 ? 14 QSOs

Note that I use the designator ?8? after my call instead of ?P.? Whenever
you work me portable, log my call+whatever designator I am in (ie. KD8KSN/4;
KD8KSN/0). Do not use /P or /M.

Please email me with any questions or if you don?t have a match when you
think you should.

Also, I am working on getting the KD8KSN/8 EN90/EM99 cards out from last
weekend. I placed the order a week ago, but I have not got a shipping
confirmation yet. I will send out an email once I mail them. Expect about
2 weeks max (hopefully).

It does not show that. Awards are given to people who want them. Having
100 or 1000 grids confirmed, while admirable, does not make your
"skills" any better then the person who has one or ten. There was a
gentleman in the latest QST who uploaded his contacts into LoTW and
found out he had a 5BDXCC, did getting that piece of paper change his
skill level or effectiveness of his station? Nope. It's just some wall
fodder.

Also, quoting because Gordon hits the nail on the head:

The display on the control box reads correct elevation, but on my digital
display on the Easy Rotor Controller shows erratic elevation position. I
have recalibrated it several times with no success. It won't read any
elevation until it is around 20? give or take. It also seems to have become
worse since our really cold temps set in. My best guess is the pot in the
rotor, but not sure where to start in the process.

Thanks in advance

Dave - KB1PVH

Hi Dave, KB1PVH

If the display on the control box reads correct elevation then the 500 ohm
pot into the rotor is OK

By the way if the digital display on the Easy Rotor Controller shows erratic
elevation probably the rear potentiometer VR4 in the rear of the control box
of the G5400 is set erratic.

Measure the DC voltage between pins 1 and 8 on the external control DIN
connector. If the pot VR4 is set correctly the voltage must be 0 volt with
elevation = 0? and 2.5 volt with elevation = 90? and 5 volt with elevation
180? i.e. with the antenna completely flipped to 180?

The potentiometer VR4 is located in the rear of the control box as shown
in the instruction manual.

Have fun

As I mentioned before, I do not believe it is the pot in the rotor. The
meters on your control box read the rotor pot directly. Both the meters
and the digital/computer portion read the pot directly. If the meters
were erratic or wrong I would suspect the rotor potentiometer. There are
4 alignment pots in the control box. One each for the meter calibration
to track the rotor and one each for computer calibration. If you want to
check the rotor pot, you can check the three lines that come down from
the rotator directly from the pot and see what the the resistance is
between three leads as you rotate the elevation rotor. Terminals 1,2 and
3 are directly to the pot. E1 and E3 either side and E2 the center.

Hi Roland,

Perhaps this is a better link, since it clearly says "released."

Hi,

I did not see any passes for America on the schedule. Does this mean the
bird is off over America until a new schedule is posted? I tried SO-67 for
the first time over the weekend and was impressed.

So-67 is scheduled for north and south America only during the first week of
the month, in rotation with other areas.
