Hello alll,
I would just like to see if there was anyone that would like to comment on
someones childish coments over the air on the AO-51 this weekend. Being new
at this I did have some feedback on my transmissions. I corrected the
problem with some headphones. I am saying flat out that the "CH19 few
channels down" and "11 Meters check in now" and " get a real radio" were
unprofessional and certainly uncalled for. I doubt that the person making
these comments will step up now, I just wanted to see if anyone had the guts
to comment on this. I know that others heard this. The person guilty of this
childish behaviour, at the time stated "Hey ----- So-67 in 4 hours" I was
on that pass and made a couple contacts, but do to the different audio was
unable to identify this child. I did hear some dead keys, may or may not
have been directed towards me.
This kind of thing is unacceptable to me and if I get the call sign of
anyone doing these things I will report it.

We just wrapped up my "How to Work Ham Sats With our HT" for Murray State
University Amateur Radio Club in Murray, Kentucky. They've been an ARRL
affiliate club for over 40 years. I am trying to get some new AMSAT members
out of them ...
We had a great time during the presentation - and, although they're freezing
back there, there were 25 attendees. We were also up against a speech by Ben
Stein on campus at the same time (grin).
I sent the custom slideshow (with Murray-related trivia questions) to them
last week, and they projected it locally. And then we hooked up with Skype
tonight for the audio. Only a couple Skype fade-outs - but it was an
hour-and-five-minutes, so no real complaints.
Chuck Williams, KJ4HBK, arranged the meeting. He's been to my Web site, and
has been working AO-51 the past couple of weeks.
Great group ... great Q&A afterwards.

A bit confused here is it ARISSat-1 or Kedr?
"satellite Kedr was accommodated in the vehicle cargo compartment on January
18"
"Its name is accepted by call sign Kedr of the first cosmonaut of the Earth
- our compatriot Yu.A. Gagarin. Yu.A. Gagarin had this call
sign when he performed his flight onboard manned spacecraft Vostok."
Thank's for any precision!

Well, Kevin complain away...I'm the one that commented about 11 Meters. If
you don't have a sense of humor, maybe you need another hobby. After about 2
days of your absolutely terrible 'audio'/CB style feedback, I could not
restrain myself. Get over it. Since you were obviously duplex and aware of
your condition, you should have stayed off the air until you fixed it!
So, with that said, I need your grid and you need mine, so see you on SO-67
in a bit.

I guess that this is always an interesting issue. Do you belittle people to
make them change or do you give them corrective help by instructive comments?
Ted, what do you feel is the best approach? What has been your experience in
the past? Do you think that it helps you to feel better when you can make
others feel bad about something they are failing at, or do you think it makes
you feel better when you help people be successful at something that they seem
to have no ability to improve at?
I generally find I feel better when I can be helpful because then the people I
help, feel better because they are successful, and I feel better because they
tell me thank you instead of posting on a list of my peers to tell me and
everyone else how unhelpful I've been.
Ted, what are your thoughts?

The person e-mailed me, I am over it. I suppose I look like the cry

little helpful information would have been nice instead of the ridicule over

Without giving a callsign? Well, two things spring to mind - a) you're
breaking the terms of your licence, and b) chicken!
Don't say stuff on air - or online - that you wouldn't say to someone's
face. And don't jam repeaters and satellites with puerile crap like
that, either.

Hi All,
I was a pass of SO-67 last night and the audio seems to be sort of muted
or suppressed.
Signals would pop through at times.
Was that just me or did it seem that way to others?
Thanks

OSCAR-11 REPORT 31 January 2011
This report covers the period from 31 December 2010 to 31 January
2011. During this time the satellite has been heard from 31
December 2010 to 10 January 2011, and from 21 January to 30
January . It is expected to switch-on again 10 February for ten
days, and remain silent for the remainder of the month.
Excellent signals have been reported from stations located around
the world, and good copy obtained from decoded telemetry frames.
The satellite is now transmitting during eclipses, although
signals are weaker at those times. This indicates that there is
still some capacity remaining in the battery.
The on-board clock is now very stable. It gained eight seconds
during January.
The VHF beacon frequency is 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry
Reception reports have been received from Christian SWL-CHMY,
Mike DK3WN, Campo PY5JAP, Ron WB0SOK and Horatio CX8AF. Many
thanks for those and to everyone who posted reports on the
satellite status website.
At the present time, while OSCAR-11 is operating in a predictable
way, I no longer need direct reports or files by e-mail. However,
could all listeners continue to enter their reports on the general
satellite status website. This is a very convenient and easy to
use facility, which shows the current status of all the amateur
satellites, and is of use to everyone. Reports around the
expected times of switch-on and switch-off are of special
interest, especially for times 12:00 - 17:00 and 22:00 - 07:00
UTC, to when the satellite is out-of-range in the UK . The URL is
http://oscar.dcarr.org/index.php
A longer version of this report report is available on my
website, and new listeners to OSCAR-11 should read this for
further information. The URL is www.g3cwv.co.uk/oscar11.htm .
This page contains a links to the longer report, a short audio
clip to help you identify the satellite and a file of the last
telemetry received. The website also contains an archive of news
& telemetry data which is updated from time to time, and details
about using a soundcard or hardware demodulators for data
capture. There is also software for capturing data, and decoding
ASCII telemetry.
If you place this bulletin on a terrestrial packet network,
please use the bulletin identifier $BID:U2RPT153.CWV, to prevent
duplication.

ISS keps are good now, since it is still inside. Even after deployment,
they will be good for a few days until significant separation occurs.

Everyone makes mistakes.
There is about 10 reams of instructions available on www.AMSAT.org about
using FM satellites--Read and ask questions..I give many talks and always
have similar questions because people do need some instructions....Good luck
on the sats and enjoy them because of the hard work of a few people that
volunteer their time to put them together for "US." Please join AMSAT when
you start to feel guilty..Hi, Hi...
This reminds me of when Owen Garriot, W5LFL, was first on the Shuttle. The
uplink and the downlink were very much confused by people trying to contact
him. Speaking of chaos - everyone that transmitted on the downlink was
harshly reprimanded and caused many moments of listening time abuse. The
unhamly comments and language heard was enough to turn anyone off about Ham
Radio. What a mess....
Rule of thumb? Listen to a few passes-learn the technique in use - then use
it yourself.... AND Be K I N D to each other. Get your 2 or so QSO's in
and leave some time for others to do the same....Good Luck...
Giving a talk at the BARA meeting in NJ on February 13th - stop by and join
in the fun evening.

Without giving a callsign? Well, two things spring to mind - a) you're
breaking the terms of your licence, and b) chicken!
Don't say stuff on air - or online - that you wouldn't say to someone's
face. And don't jam repeaters and satellites with puerile crap like that,
either.

Dee,
Good points. I don't know why operators think it's a DX pileup and have to
run 5 or more contacts and monopolize the bird too.

73,
Dee, NB2F

The satellite has different names depending on the country providing the
news release as the name has evolved. First it was SuitSat-2 which became
ARISSat-1 on the USA side since there was no longer a Suit but the Russians
maintained the variant RadioSkaf-B (radio suit 2). Recently, they decided to
commemorate Gagarin's flight and started calling it KEDR (Gagarin's
callsign) so you will see multiple names for the same satellite. Hopefully,
it will get a number and we can all call it the same thing then.
