Hi All,
Its been quite a while since Ive posted here....
Ive been lurking again for the last few weeks.
hope all is well for you...
In the early 90's I purchased a M2 440 CP antenna
from a neighbor using it for AO-10. I was planning to
use it with AO-40... well that didnt happen...
If anyone is interested in purchasing this antenna it is available.
It has been in the barn all these years and I realize I probably
wont get to setting it up. I would really like to see someone get
the intended use out of it. It is about 20 feet long currently in 2 ~10ft.
pieces.
I thought it was a 44 element.... I see M2 does 42 element now.. so Id have to
check.
Somewhere I have the paperwork on it but I cant guarantee I can find it.
It is set up I think for RHCP but you could change that ... it does not
have the remote switching capability. You would have to do it manually
or get a switch to do it from the shack.
Incidentally, I have a bunch of other stuff as well... like silver N
connectors
etc...
and other stuff as well. Although my Kenpro az/el and FT-736 2M, 220, 440,
1.2
is long gone
I do have some other stuff that can go.
If someone is interested, I will be glad to take detailed pictures and email
them.
I really am not interested in disassembling the antenna so I hope it could be
pickup only
but I can look at it and see if I can get it down to 4 x 5 ft sections (I
think
it will) but I would
not want to remove each element as if you are familiar with these Im sure you
can understand,
I am near Syracuse, NY USA.
73's,
Chris

I just realized that Saturday is the 29 and Sunday is the 30. So, the
correct times/dates are 1700z January 29 - 1700z January 30.

Hi,
Jamie, KB3QLK, will be doing a demo(s) for his club during Winter Field Day
this Saturday-Sunday (30-31). He will be operating the birds using his
personal call before the event, then he will be using the club?s call,
KB3BHL, during the event. This will be a good opportunity for any stations
(especially the western stations) to work DE for WAS.
Good luck with the QSOs!

Hi All,
Due to the fact that several stations that wanted either EN90 or EM99 or
both did not get to work me last time since I went during the week, I have
decided to make another trip out to the boundary next Saturday (29th) from
about 1800z ? 2030z. I plan to be on the following passes from this boundary:
AO27 ? 1817z
AO27 ? 1952z
AO51 ? 2012z
This trip will be a little shorter than last time, but passes should be a
little more productive since it will be on a weekend.
I will have the D7 beaconing in between passes - http://aprs.fi/kd8ksn-9 I
will only be running 5w, or 6-7w if it is plugged into the vehicle, so I may
not be on the internet depending on were I am in relation to a digi.
I will QSL everyone in the log as I did last time, so no need for a return
card/SASE.
I will post a reminder as the time gets closer.

Hi Rick, I too tried the eggbeaters and found them worthless. Also tried a
commercial made quadrifilar rx from antenna.us. then...
In the ARRL Satellite Handbook found the Moxon turnstile for the LEOs. Being
a fan of Moxons, I have built both the tx and rx and am quite please with
performance over the past antennas. Built all from pvc and brass tubing from
the hobby shop. You should be able to build both for less than _+ $25.00 and
your junk box.
The article is on the ARRL site or maybe search internet (Moxon turnstile
antenna)
I think this will fill your requirements

fair.I could by M2 eggbeater pair but I'm trying to do this on less $. I
also have an Arrow antenna which I've tried some with a HT with only fair
results. Any other suggestions out there? Mount the Arrow more permanently
but at a fixed elevation and use a simple rotor to change azimuth? How about
a homebrewed quagi? Any suggestions appreciated.

I want to use my HalloRotor parallel-port rotor interface with a new PC
that doesn't have a parallel port. Has anybody had success using a
parallel-to-USB converter with a parallel port rotor interface?
In the past I used a parallel-to-USB converter and Windows device
manager decided that it was a "USB printer", not LPT2. Is there a model
of parallel-to-USB converter that Windows recognizes as a LPTx ?

Change of plans.....
Instead of working 2 eastern passes and only one western pass, I thought I
would switch it around. Here are the corrected pass/times:
AO27 - 1952z (favors west)
AO51 - 2012z (favors east)
AO51 - 2149z (favors west)
I will only be running 5w as usual, so please have patience, especially if
the activity on the birds is anything like it has been the past month.

Rick.
on the "cheap" antenna front I've tried and had pretty good success with two
things.
First there is a 5 element Yagi design that was published in QST that
uses/modifies an Archer 5 element FM yagi. I built one and added some 70 cm
elements 90 out of phase and thats worked great. My home QTH is in a bit of
flux (we are moving to a farm out by Santa Fe Tx from my home QTH in Clear
Lake TX) so I built another one, put them both on a boom 90 degrees out in
an X configuration, stuck them at 33 degrees and they work well. I will
keep them once we move into the perm QTH.
I've also used the crossed dipoles and Lindenblad antenna from QST (not the
AMSAT one) and they work great. I modified one for WX satellite reception
and am very happy with them.
I am in Nigeria now and have a modified Lindenblad for my WX station here
but its copied really well most of the two meter Oscars including AO-7. I
didnt have Nigerian operating authority when I left the states (but now have
a five year license) so I didnt bring any transmit equipment...but from the
roof of the Sheraton in Abuja the WX version works great. I've got
permission to set up permanent antennas on the Sheraton and I will be back
so am going to have some good operating here.
I would upload pictures, but I tried to upload some of the really big HF
array on the road to the airport and they never showed up...if you want some
pictures of what I have at home I will be happy to send them to you. IN
about two weeks!

I used a PCI card, not a USB adapter.

Nice explanation of the costs for VUCC in the Jeff Yanko blog. However, I did
not see what happens with LOTW submisions.
If the cost of awards keep going up, maybe the ARRL should offer award
insurance
as well as equipment insurance. Just a thought. :>)

I WAS going to get an endorsement for my satellite and six meter VUCCs, but
given that it would cost me around 35 dollars each to get an endorsement for
an extra 150 grids, I don't think so. Hope this new insane fee schedule
doesn't kill VUCC submissions. I think AMSAT awards will be getting much
more popular.
