It might have been GO-32 telemetry, based on what you saw.
Check out Mike DK3WN's OnlineKISS+ program and see if you can capture
some frames via your TNC. That will help you see what is really
coming through...

Problem is Damon, is that some of the worse offenders are guys who've been
around ever since I have been. Everyone out to get that elusive Grid Square
that they've worked a zillion times before. I too did the same as you, and
pretty much void the FM'er anymore, unless something special comes up.
For another 2 cents worth: (I know I'll get flamed) If there is some station
announcing here on the BB that they are going to a special grid location
that is
rare or needed by someone, then give them and others a break. Namely, if he
or
even any other station that is working Portable or HT status, work him, then
QRT, and leave the freq for others. 'Hogging' the channel, working or calling
the same old station you've worked a zillion times before and not letting
others
work the Portable/HT stations, just to satisfy your QSO count for more
wallpaper
just doesnt hack it, in my opinion. end of rant & extinguisher in
hand.............

Hi Jerry,
you heard the GO-32 beacon (every 30 sec a short burst). It's no UI-frame so
you can't use MixW.
If you use a TNC in KISS mode you will receive a short beacon like that:
[47 Bytes KISS Frame (without CRC)]

?.....?.<}..TechSat-V4.2.@....@...@.......x...x

PS: At the moment GO-32 is active in beacon mode with CPU-B. I expect that
GO-32 will fall back into its emergency mode very soon.

Sat operators: When I started in satellites in the 1990,s.things
were different.
They had a person that sort of monitored a
lot of satellite passes
and conversations.
He was a ham that operated sats too.
What he did was sort of police the
operators,
When you used too much power he sent you
an e- mail.
I believe the rule of thumb to operate on
the satellite is
never use no morepower on the uplink than
you have on
the beacon signal downlink.
So when he became a SK we didn,t have any
body to monitor
our QSO,s.
Maybe you old timers can remember his call.

I have to agree with the others regarding the mis-use of AO-51. I don't
get on there every pass but the other day was ridiculous. I thought it
was CH19. There is absolutely no respect. Another gripe I have are
those who work every pass and contact the same people each pass. That
makes it very crowded. I would suggest listening for new calls and grid
squares. As the satellites get more and more publicity, new people
will be coming on board. Perhaps there operating skills are not as good
as yours, but they have a right to make contacts. Check your log books
and if you have worked someone, give another person a chance to work
them. There were several new calls for me the other day but it was so
bad that I just shut it down.
Is ham radio joining the ranks of the general populous and losing our
civility? It sure seems like it.

Hello all,
Been doing the FM satellite passes now for 7 months and have been reading
the thread on satellite operating protocol that has been making the rounds
the last day with interest. I have a thought worth mulling over I think,
especially as we attempt to attract more hams to our niche of the hobby.
My comment about satellite protocol has to do with how HO-68 is used when in
the FM/PACSAT mode. The power level competition between the FM folks and
the packet folks make for a very challenging environment for most operators,
especially the handheld guys like me. The packet folks have a right as do
the FM folks and I am sure there is as much frustration amongst Packet
satellite operators as is experienced by the average FMer. If I had the
resources to do SSB/CW I would gladly be using that mode when it comes
around on HO-68 but that is not in the financial game plan for now.
Don't get me wrong, I am much appreciative of the China AMSAT folks for
championing a very serviceable d I get this much . I use UISS set at 9600bps to capture the
signal .
Thanks again .

Another part of the solution would be to operate AO-51 in V/S or L/S more
often.
