Hi Bob,

Can you check your jumper settings are set correctly? Also make sure you're
on V0.9 firmware.

Subject: [amsat-bb] LVB Tracker & G-5500 Rotator

Hi All,

I am having problems trying to use the LVB Tracker/G5500 on the Serial
Port. My box will not communicate. Mike Young sent me another box with
the MAX232 chip and I am not able to communicate with it either. I can
control the G5500 via the LVB faceplate.

I am using COM Port 1, 9600, 8-N-1 None and CAN communicate with
hyperterminal with a loopback plug. When it is plugged to the LVB box I
am NOT able to communicate via hyperterminal or SatPC32. The SDX Server
is set correctly to COM1/9600, has been saved and SatPC32 recycled.
Still no go.

My original box, when the USB chip is removed and a MAX232 chip
installed appears to communicate with the G5500, but when the G5500 is
powered off, both meters on the G5500 peg to the max. Very strange.
Still not control via Serial port.

Anyone have any ideas? Mike & I are stumped on this one.

73,

Bob Herrell AJ5C

I saw in another thread a breakdown of satellite passes, and thought what a
cool idea. I didn't start working sats until January 2010, because I wasn't
licensed until December 2009. All of my sat work is standing outside, with
an ht and Arrow antenna. Due to my being surrounded by 13,000 ft mountain
ranges, all passes I work have to be 30 degree elevation or higher. I get to
work AO-27, AO-51 and SO-50 each once a day. I know I listened for a week
before I had the courage to transmit but what a thrill those first few
contacts were!

1st contact was 01/19/2010 with KI6IUJ
Last contact was 12/31/2010 with WD9EWK

AO-27 - 322
AO-51 - 208
SO-50 - 173
HO-68 - 25
SO-67 - 18

TOTAL - 746 contacts plus one with the ISS

I've qualified for VUCC, just waiting on the award to arrive.

Worked sats from DM68 (home grid) and portable from DM57, DM58 and DM67.
This summer I plan on making several trips to rare grids around me.

Working sats for me is a blast, frustrating at times but still lots of fun.
And thank goodness for digital tape recorders!

Hi Bob,

You might take a look at the serial port's configuration for flow control
handshaking. I don't know if the Tracker supports it, but the symptoms
sound like the PC is set for Hardware handshaking and either the tracker
doesn't support it, or the cable between the Tracker and the PC is missing
those wires. Most loopback hoods have these signals wired up, so that would
explain why it worked and the tracker did not.

Try either turning off handshaking, or "hotwire" the port by connecting pins
1, 4, and 6 together (on the PC side; 9-pin connector assumed), and
separately, pins 7 and 8. (I think those are the right pins - it's been a
while since I played with this sort of thing.) This connects DSR, DTR, and
Carrier Detect together to tell the computer that there's something out
there to talk to, and hotwires the RTS/CTS hardware flow control to always
permit transmission.

Good luck,

Greg KO6TH

Hi folks,

With the troublesome controller reprogrammed we hope that Sumbandila
will resume its repeater schedule next week.

Tonight over South Africa the four passes below will be scheduled as
a test. Please report your observations at David Carr's live OSCAR
status page: http://oscar.dcarr.org/

The weekly schedule will be published at http://amsatsa.org.za/ once
full operations resume.

I am using the KLM-2m-c22 (also the 432 model) with the CS-3 relays. These
antennas are mounted in the X pattern and are working very well. The
question is: under normal construction, (by the book), of the antennas, are
they left hand or right hand polarized before the CS-3 relay is energized?
Thanks in advance for any information.

I just missed it...correct continent (AFrica) but to far south (Ivory
Coast)...good news is that I will be back and have in works a Chad, Nigeria,
and Congo reciprocal license...with a good operating room agreement with the
Sheraton Abuja...The Sheraton is going to let me put up some permanent
antennas...

Hi Louis, KD5GM

I have connected my KLM-2m-c22 as per the manual instruction and it is RHCP
before the CS3 is energized.

By the way try listening on the 2 meters downlink of VO-52 it is LHCP
polarized and switching the CS3 during the pass you must note a very strong
difference between RHCP to LHCP been LHCP the strongest signal.
