Hi All,

RAX is recovering from a low battery charge condition. We observed an
anomaly last week that has severely reduced RAX's power generation
capability on her remaining three panels (the first being shorted out). The
only two safe operating modes for RAX in this condition are infrequent
beacons (every 1-2 minutes) or beacons off to regain energy spent on
engineering diagnosis tests. I can't discuss the reason for the fault at the
moment, but I can tell you our team is converging on the cause at this time.
We can provide more info when we are certain of the cause, and will also
speak to the impact on the mission.

In the meantime, I will send occasional updates as to when the beacon will
be on for those listening.

Thanks and 73.

Matt

I hear a lot of noise from GO32 on it's pass on the beacon downlink of
435.325 . It is supposed to be 9600bps , but I can't copy any packet . Is
the noise the packet beacon ?

How does the Elk Dualband yagi work as a satellite antenna in a base setup
when you are not elevating it? Is it better to mount it for vertical or
horizontal polarization to get maximum coverage of satellite passes? Still
trying to figure out the best FM sat setup here after some station redesign.

Hi Zack,

I use an Alliance TV-type rotor on its side for elevation, and a regular
light duty ham-type rotor for azimuth, both tied into a home-brewed
controller for fully automatic operation.

See: http://home.wavecable.com/~ko6th/ at the top of the page.

Have fun,

would work well for satellite work? I might like to consider getting one
for some homemade antennas that I might use for a rover setup. Other than
the rotor and a computer, what do I need to be able to get the thing to
track the birds. I know I obviously need a tracking program like SatPC32,
Orbitron, HRD ? Are any of those better than another? Sorry for the
?amateur? questions ? I have never done anything with rotors ? just the
Arrow/HT and standing out in the cold freezing combination. ;-)

Probably. Ill try to take a listen today. GO-32 was abandoned
a year? Ago due to frequent resets, but maybe they are trying to
revive it. For the last two years of its useful life they
enabled APRS style packet digipeating.

At 9600 baud, any of the APRS mobiles and HT radios could use it
for global messaging and digipeating.

Ha! So I am not the only one that has this issue. =P I usually am able to
explain to them what I am doing okay, but it seems like they don?t know what
I am talking about, and by the time they drive off they think I am more
weird than when they first saw me. I t would be really nice to be able to
hand them a brochure or something, but I don?t think AMSAT has anything like
that right now.

These days GO-32 goes into a strange "emergency mode" where it
transmits something at 9600 (hard to decode)....when in this mode, it
makes constant noise...not just your normal 9600 baud "sssshhhhhh...."
sounds, either. The emergency mode sounds more like noise with
distinct "clicks" in it at regular intervals (1 sec or so?)

When out of emergency mode, it tends to send 9600 telemetry packets
every minute or (that's close...)

Unfortunately go-32 is end of mission! Mike DK3WN & I have been tracking
this for a while now and it's solar panels cannot produce enough juice to
keep the on board computer going hence why it enters emergency mode quite
often :(

Shame as Bob did a good thing with Aprsing it!

"We use our amateur radios to talk with other hams by sending our
signal up to a satellite, which are built by hams, to relay our
signal farther than we can normally talk." wait for the questions
and answer them.

If you've worked me via the birds, and have sent me a QSL via snail mail and
have not received one back, I apologize. Past few months have been crazy
hectic and my lack of planning didn't obtain new QSL cards lol. I will be
sending out QSLs to the following: KB0RZD, N2VYT, N4TRI, WO3T by the new
year (hopefully next week). I do use LOTW and eqsl so those have been sent
already, just hadn't gotten to send hard copies. Again my apologies but
expect them soon!

Hello,

I want to make a High Altitude Balloon and I want to make some
questions to I don't loose my time learning and studying if satellite
communication is not an option. I'm starting to study radio amateur
from now, so I don't know almost anything. Sorry for that! Just simple
questions that any of you can answer.

1) Will I be able to use a satellite for telemetry data from my
balloon to a ground station?
2) It will be easier or cheaper to don't use satellite and just
communicate directly to my ground station?

The target altitude is 30km.

My main fear is to loose my payload, so radio(maybe two radios for
redundancy) is essential.

I'll contact experienced people in Brazil regarding the radio things
after project is ready. I'm just writing the project so I need this
simple informations.

I'll send GPS coordinates, altitude, speed, course information, two
temperatures sensors, accelerometer/gyro, pressure informations. All
text and simple things. I'm planning to send this data using APRS.

Thanks,

Wagner Sartori Junior
