There's no problem with flying a receiver, it's Amateur Band transmitters
you can't fly below 7MHz.
Here's a question which hopefully someone can answer.
The natural follow to having a receiver on 135kHz is as you say to
retransmit it on 70cm.
Such a system would in theory permit 2-way QSO's to be held via the sat.
Now at what point does a monitoring receiver become a satellite Uplink ?

Geminids peak TONIGHT! Astronomers consider it the best meteor shower of the
year, with more than 100 meteors streaking through the night sky every hour.

Q. Can the ISS astronauts see tonight's Geminid meteor shower?
NASA: Yes - but they are orbiting at 250 miles above the Earth, and the
meteors are at about 47 miles. So the astronauts on the ISS would have to
look DOWN towards the Earth to see the meteor shower instead of up.

Hi all,
Here is a pix of a demo I did in NJ with the LVB tracker attached to a G5500
Yaesu. It isn't that big but it sure is a great attention getter at any
hamfest or demo you present. This way you can show the LVB tracker actually
being used.. You need more space like outdoors for an arrow attached...-Have
a fun "Dramatic Sight!"

I have an inquiry from a gentleman who would like to show the "dramatic
sight" of a computer-controlled small Yagi tracking a satellite while in a
convention booth - but not necessarily a full-blown Yaesu G-5500.
If I am not making sense, just ask ... (grin)
He is thinking 12VDC, laptop, just a six-foot mast with an Arrow-like
antenna, Ham Radio Deluxe(?), "smaller" radio like a FT-817ND)?) ...
Brainstorming welcome!
Many thanks.

If you live in a quiet area, you might plot all APRS packets
heard on 144.39 anywhere in North America. With 10,000 people
transmitting routinely, a few might just happen at the instant
of a meteor reflection to your area.
Anyone that plots more than 500 miles is most likely via Meteor
Scatter.
Best to use a NOT-HIGH antenna so your receiver is not blocked
so much by all the local traffic.

Has anyone used the Yaesu FTM-10R on the FM satellites? Just from looking
at the manual it looks like storing the uplink and downlink frequencies in a
memory might be difficult, but I could be wrong.

Look at "Odd Splits" on page 42-ish of your owners manual ... YES, you can
program RX on 440 and TX on 2M in one memory channel.

I asked NASA that last night. They were not particularly worried that these
1-to-10mm-sized particles would wreak havoc with the ISS - even though they
are travelling at about 80,000 MPH.
