Well said Damon. Another thing on qsl cards is if you receive a card with a
sase, please have the courtesy to send your card back. It's important to
those chasing the paper. I have 6-7 contacts where I sent a card and SASE
and never heard back from the station worked.

For those who do not have QSL Cards,or will not send a QSL card for the
contact. Here is a link to a program that will print you a QSL card FREE,.

if you do not have any .

Collecting grids is fun and getting that contact confirmed means alot to
MANY of us. The FM birds can get very crowded with ops trying to make a
contact with someone in a grid that would be a new contact for them
http://www.radioqth.net/qsl.aspx PLEASE send out cards to those who
send you a S.A.S.E. They need the card

Good morning to all,

I have recently entered the relms of Saterlite communications and need
a breif list of Sats to initially target that are pretty easy to get
into that will allow me to cut my teeth on.
I have a FT847 and use 2M 70CM antennas (vertical), so I am pretty
right to go as far as hardware is concerned.

I am using Orbatron as the selected tracking software.

Cheers

You might want to consider getting a hold of some yagis or something like
the Arrow II antenna. The gain and directivity really helps when tracking
the bird and getting yourself heard specially when operating QRP.

Anyways as far as easy sats are concerned two that I know of are AO-27 (aka
The Easy Sat) and AO-51. There are most likely others that could fall into
the classification of easy sat, but I'll let the others throw them up as
suggestions.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would pass this info along to some of the newer sat Hams who are
maybe not well acquainted with where grid boundaries match up.... On the
1918z AO27 pass this afternoon when K5TDN/P operated at the EM06/07
gridline, he was also at the Kansas/Oklahoma boundary. The EM06/07 boundary
is also the KS/OK boundary. Hopefully this will help some who might need
these semi-rare states for their WAS.

Hi Everyone,

Tyler ? K5TDN is going to be operating from the EM06/07 gridline on the
Nov21, 1918z AO27 pass. He may operate from this boundary on different
passes throughout the weekend, but this is the only definite pass. Tyler
will also be operating from EM14 beginning this Wednesday (24) through
Friday the 26 brfor heading back home. Hopefully travel will go well, and
everyone that needs these grids will get them.

Peter,

Welcome to the birds. As you'll learn each bird has it's quirks but the
easiest to work is probably AO-51. Listen to a few passes first before
keying up. This will hive you dome idea of how thing flow on the birds.
You'll also get some practice in pointing the antenna & tuning for doppler.

When you're ready to transmit, pick a pass earlier in the day, AO-51 tends
to get crowded.

I enjoy working sats because it's challenging enough to be fun, but not so
much so as to get frustrating.

Trust me, your first QSO will be very satisfying.

Good luck & hope to work you soon.

Hi y'all,

AMSAT will have a booth at the Tampabay Hamfest coming up on December
4th in Palmetto, Florida. We also will be doing 90 minutes of
presentations on satellites and ARISS during a forum on Saturday. Please
come by to pick up the latest AMSAT gear, learn about ARISSat-1, FOX,
and other projects, make a donation, or join or renew your AMSAT membership.

This year I am going to try something new. For each donation of $25 or
more, or each membership or renewal, I will personally provide the parts
and help assembling an antenna for operating the satellites. We will be
building a version of the CJU antenna in the booth, which is a small but
very effective antenna to use with an HT to copy the Mode J satellites.
Using the CJU and an HT, and the 2m radio in your car, the Mode J
satellites are easy to use. Email me ahead of time for details or to
RSVP for this offer.

Please forward to any interested parties or lists.

For those that do seat-of-the-pants tracking from your
mobile....

FASTRAC's orbit (the center of general pass times over your
area) generally moves about 18 minutes earlier every day. But
where it is in that orbit is not an exact multiple of that.

So for a good overhead pass on any given day, tomorrows similar
pass will actually be about 20 minutes LATER each day, but a
lower pass. Then after two days, jump back 80 minutes to get
back onto the peak pass. So you can go +20, +20, then -80 then
+20, +20 then -80 etc..

I found this useful for portable operation on a long vacation
for estimateing tomorrows pass based on when I heard the packets
each day.

Bob,

SO-50 is operating, however it is a difficult bird to track, it's in a lower
LEO orbit, hence the Doppler moves more quickly than AO-51, the antenna
aboard SO-50 is a 1/4 wave vertical antenna

I have attached a screen shot of the satellite status page, if you would
like to verify you're observations, you can get a synopsis of the satellite
activity.
