Patrick,

The Wife and myself worked Commander Wheelock yesterday evening. He will
there for only a week or so before
returning home. Catch him fast.

Guys:

I apologize if I'm replying incorrectly to the board - I have only read up
until
now.? I will gladly respond to suggestions.

I attempted to take the sep vector posted on the web
(http://fastrac.ae.utexas.edu/for_radio_operators/users/phpBB3/predictedorbit.
php)
and turn it into a text file for use in HRD Sat Tracker, but had no immediate
joy.

Before I fool around for a couple hours trying to get something to work, has
anyone else plugged the TLEs into HRD Sat Tracker, or is there an online
resource?? I see Bruninga's reference to SATPC, but I do not have that
installed
on this PC.

I look forward to at least finding a dang beacon - decoding AFSK will be a
challenge as I do not routinely attempt such things.? I'll take an ELK log
periodic and aim it when I get tracking sw working.? I'll be listening with a
Yaesu FT897.

Thanks for the help, and congrats to all on a great launch.? I guess it's
Minotaur/Kodiak 1, and NRO/NASA/KSC 0 as far as recent launch attempts.

Congratulations on making it to this point. The next week I'm sure will
be full of anticipation waiting for that rocket to lift off!

One of the things I think is so great about your project, from what I
have read and been told, is that you've incorporated a secondary amateur
two-way digipeater capability into your satellites. As I understand it,
you plan to operate this after your primary mission is completed? It
might be a great motivation to the AMSAT folks on amsat-bb to hear some
details of this planned operation, as I'm sure others like myself are
particularly interested in helping out student satellites that give back
to the community. With so many new student satellites, it's rare to see
one that may eventually be open for everyone to use, and that is to be
commended and rewarded with support. So, if you don't mind, let the
folks at amsat-bb@xxxxx.xxx know what your plans are in this regard.

On a separate note, I've started and entry on the AMSAT-NA satellite
status pages for FASTRAC-1 and -2
(http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/futures.php), and hope to
fill in the details over the next few days. Please, once your satellites
reach orbit and operate, apply for an OSCAR number from AMSAT-NA and
join the fleet of amateur radio satellites
(http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/futures.php). I'll also ask
that your Keplerian elements get included in the AMSAT distribution
list. Please let me know if there is anything else the amateur community
can do to help.

Just to cheer up others with poor results - you're not alone :-)

FASTRAC downlink at 145.825: ISS + other QRM and clearly my 9k6 is not
sensitive.
Quite a few packets heard, nothing decoded. Here I (my station) clearly
failed.

FASTRAC & O/OREOS downlink at 437: lot of QRM (50Hz humm, 50 KHz wide at
437.320)

O/OREOS: Yes I did hear it, 4 second packet period interfal, but I could not
decode.
Others (eg DK3WN) have better results. Seems 4 KHz above official freq, all
the time,
so I assume its not due to the keplerset (else that would not be 4 khz all
the time ?)
Your experiences ?
Mike: what does your SDR analysis say wrt the frequency ?

O/OREOS keplerset: accepted by HRD (go to keplers, click add file (next to
the list of
URLs and upload the keplerset manually. But: I suspect it to be invalid,
some programs
do not accept the O/OREOS keplerset, HRD only accepted after I turned off
the checksum check.

Anyway lot of new signals to hunt for.
(and 145.825 will become VERY busy)

Looking forward to hear you results !

Thanks to Alan Biddle and Davind Barber for TLE files!

The attached one ingested into HRD for me, no in-views yet, so can not yet
report successful downlink.

Thanks,

All,

A question. Friday between 2156 -2201 UT both SO-50 & AO-27 were visible
form my QTH (in fact they had a mutual window somewhere from about 2154-
2214UT). Both birds were in the same area of the sky, so I think it'd be
possible to hit both birds with my antenna pointed towards one of them.

Now for the question, since both bird operate on the same frequencies, (with
SO-50 requiring a PL tone), If I'm working SO-50 Wouldn't someone working
AO27 hear me as well? If they do and reply, Would I hear them from the AO-27
downlink? I know SO-50 wouldn't hear them since there is no PL (Assuming the
other station did not program in a PL).

Also if the other station did have the PL, what would happen if both birds
heard him and repeated the uplink? I imagine there would be some serious QRM
as the signal reach my station out of phase.

If we did hear each other and completed a QSO, I can imagine the confusion
when QSL's are exchanged....

Just wondering.

Hi Henk,
I regret to say I also had similar experiences using my TS-2000 today at my
 QTH in South Wales (UK)
This morning was also a problem due to the ISS being very active on the
same frequency during the pass
and I got rather confused.
Later on this afternoon I monitored and the packet bursts from the
satellite were quite strong but had no success in decoding them sadly.
I have to add though the signals were quite strong and could be monitored
and heard using either a THD-7
handheld or a THD 700 and only an Arrow antenna.
Glad to see that Mike has his usual success together with others reporting
in to the BBS.
Not yet submitted any report to the project web site but my congratulations
to all the team, support and sponsors. Glad to see your time and efforts
rewarded - Thanks for the new additions to the hobby.

Hi
FASTRAC keps elements worked very well with HRD.
?
I?ve Used HRD for Doppler correction to RX O/OREOS, Also I've heard a very
strong FASTRAC? Beacon at 145.825 .
?
O/OREOS?was pumping a very strong signal, Decoded?with?sound card software
UISS and Multipsk . See a movie clip at

I want to thank everybody that has helped us track FASTRAC as we have gotten
confirmation from multiple sources that they are both working beaconing and
that the satellites are crosslinking. We were also able to hear a couple of
beacons at our station this morning and will attempt to contact them again
this afternoon on our next pass.

Thanks a lot, 73,
