The launch went well. It was visible from Eagle River (North of
Anchorage) and south.
I was watching on the computer with a live feed. It was a successful
launch from Kodiak
Launch Complex. 'The other Cape'. Narrow Cape Alaska. Alaska Aerospace
Development
Corporation.
Lets see what comes from the seven satellites on this launch.

I certainly hope that there will be a replay. The flight controllers are
still monitoring the flight. Apparently they are checking orbits and
bringing the booster back in. I would call it a pretty flawless flight. Now
it's up to the satellites to do well.

Regarding SSB preamps:

I have had both an SP-2000 and SP-7000 in nearly continuous use here in
Vermont since 1990. I cannot find any fault with either unit. Both have
worked FLAWLESSLY the entire time. Both have been out in the extremes of
temperature northern Vermont gets. Some slight discoloration from the
sun of the housings. The 2 meter one is not quite so red any more, and
the 432 one a paler shade of blue, but that is all.

The ARR preamps are excellent as well, but limit you to 160 watts. For
most people running a typical satellite station, that would be fine. But
if you also want to run V/UHF terrestrial, that may not be enough power
handling for you.

With a proper sequencer, the SP-2000 will handle 750 watts, and SP-7000
will handle 500, and SSB offers a 1.5 kW 2 meter model for a real
rockcrusher station.

You get what you pay for.

SSB preamps are excellent in all respects for satellite work. I even
made my first ten 2 meter EME QSOs with the SP-2000.

I had considered using one for my permanent two meter EME station as
well, but ended up using a receive only preamp and doing dual feedlines,
one for tx and one for rx.

All,

We are very excited about the launch tonight. The current TLEs that we have
generated for FASTRAC from the separation vectors is as follows:

1 99999U 10324.08102199 .00000023 00000-0 00000-0 0 00003

If you hear any of the 1200 baud beacons on 437.345 MHz (FAST1) and 145.825
MHz (FAST2), please let us know (sebastian_munoz@xxxx.xxxxxx.xxxx. The
satellites should be beaconing every 3 minutes. Once we get more precise
TLEs we will post them to the website.

Thanks a lot for all your support,

Sebastian

All,

Congratulation to the RAX team for this flawless launch.

Good signals here in Europe at my first 10 deg pass this morning.

RX frequency is about 4 KHz higher with the last published TLE.

We missed seeing the contrail from the launch, though we were going
to try to see it here about 170 miles north of Kodiak. Nice set of
photos of the launch vehicle and the satellites on this website.

I was busy finishing up a day outside repairing the base structure of
my 16-foot dish that suffered wind damage early in the week. I got
the dish temp. propped with 4x4 timbers and removed the angle-iron
from both sides of the mount. I was in the midst of feeding my six
sled dogs at launch time. Pretty tiring working in 15F wx
outside. Tomorrow, I will install 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 square tubing to
replace the bent 3-inch angle-iron. Wind gusts to 50mph resulted in
2500 lbs of wind force on the dish.

There were pictures of the contrail on TV news tonight taken from
Homer, AK about 70-miles closer to Kodiak. Skies were perfectly clear.

Okay, I'm sad my shack has a huge noise problem at 145.825 :(

Anyhow through the noise I heard 1200 packets from FASTRAC2 (apparently)
sending beacons every few minutes, but unable to print packets due to local
QRM. Clearly packets being sent, though.

I know others listening without noise could print..hope you have some.

I flipped to FASTRAC1 on 435, but never heard it.

Congrats to team!

(Sigh..now to try to eliminate the noise!)

Mark N8MH
