Hello Enzo,

From what I see, there is only 1 way to configure Wisp for time--a choice
of Local or UTC.

If the Local time is off, I bet it means something is wrong with the PC
clock and the operating system. Do you have all the "day light savings"
patches applied? And is the selected time zone in the operating system
correct? Your clock can show the "right local" time, but be in the wrong
time zone--and then your UTC clocks are wrong...

I've never had clock troubles with Wisp under any Windows operating systems
(from Win 3.1, Win95, Win2K, WinXP, and now Windows 7). Wow, guess I've
been using Wisp a long time ;) It's been nearly 20 years since I helped
beta test the first versions of it...

For those of you that have the ARRL Worked All States certificate. If
you would like to apply for an AMSAT Award, I will accept a scanned copy
of your Worked All States certificate as proof of 50 contacts towards
any of our awards. This means, to earn the Sexagesimal Award (60
contacts) you would only need 10 VE call areas or DXCC entities to
qualify for the award. Plus as a bonus, if you never submitted for the
AMSAT Communication Achievement Award, you would also earn that with the
same submission.

Thank you for the great news about FO-29 earlier today.
It sounded well this afternoon, with many stations working in

Hi Drew,

Thanks so much for your help and encouragement. I am the FASTRAC faculty
adviser, but it really is a student built and operated satellite. Many of
the students who have worked on FASTRAC have amateur radio licenses, and it
was our hope to engage the global amateur radio community in our project
from the beginning. After launch on Nov. 19, the best way anyone can assist
us is by tracking our signal, and uploading any data you collect to our web
site:

Once you are registered on our web site, we will track how much data is
collected by individuals and you can view health and status information
about each of our satellites (FASTRAC-1 and -2, also known as Sara Lily and
Emma).

After the main experiment is done, amateur radio operators can use the
satellites as two-way digipeaters for as long as they remain operational.

I want to point out on your AMSAT web page that I believe you have the total
mass listed twice for both FASTRAC-1 and 2 (57 kg). The satellites start
out together as a single unit (57 kg) but will separate after a few weeks of
operation on-orbit, so the masses of the individual satellites are roughly
half the total mass (28.5 kg each).

We really appreciate all the advice and help that we have received from the
amateur radio community over the years. Now, with a little bit of good
luck, it will soon be time to enjoy the result!

73,

Glenn KE5DDG.

Congratulations on making it to this point. The next week I'm sure will
be full of anticipation waiting for that rocket to lift off!

One of the things I think is so great about your project, from what I
have read and been told, is that you've incorporated a secondary amateur
two-way digipeater capability into your satellites. As I understand it,
you plan to operate this after your primary mission is completed? It
might be a great motivation to the AMSAT folks on amsat-bb to hear some
details of this planned operation, as I'm sure others like myself are
particularly interested in helping out student satellites that give back
to the community. With so many new student satellites, it's rare to see
one that may eventually be open for everyone to use, and that is to be
commended and rewarded with support. So, if you don't mind, let the
folks at amsat-bb@xxxxx.xxx know what your plans are in this regard.

On a separate note, I've started and entry on the AMSAT-NA satellite
status pages for FASTRAC-1 and -2
(http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/futures.php), and hope to
fill in the details over the next few days. Please, once your satellites
reach orbit and operate, apply for an OSCAR number from AMSAT-NA and
join the fleet of amateur radio satellites
(http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/futures.php). I'll also ask
that your Keplerian elements get included in the AMSAT distribution
list. Please let me know if there is anything else the amateur community
can do to help.

73, and good luck,
Drew KO4MA

Hello everyone,

I have a sort of odd question which has been bouncing around in my mind.

Back in the October issue of QST there was a map of the 6m grid squares that
displayed a grid map with colored squares showing the most wanted to least
wanted grids. I understand that the map was based on a survey of 6m users -
but I was curious if there was anything similar for satellites?

Also, I am sorry for the delay in sending this - but I wanted to thank
Patrick, WD9EWK and Drew, KO4MA for the AO27 contacts this past Saturday.
Our ARES group was helping with a county wide communications exercise
assisting Emergency Services. During our late lunch we had a impromptu
satellite demonstration. I had a hard time finding the satellite, but
eventually made it. I mistakenly switched in to auto-mode in providing my
grid information, we were actually located in EM85 instead of my home qth of
EM95. My friend Mac, K3CLM tried to make it as well using his HT and Elk
antenna. We had around 12 individuals watching the demo. Hopefully we
will get more interested in operating the birds. Thanks again to Patrick
and Drew.

Michael, K4MOA

Hi Joe,

The keps generally don't get released until the satellite is in orbit and
has been radar located by the ground satellite trackers :)

Michael, there was some discussion a year or so ago here on amsat-bb about
this. I'm sorry that I can't remember who it was but someone asked for input
on what grid squares (via the birds) were needed by as many amsat-bb
subscribers as possible. That person then compiled a listing which was a
great start toward a colored map similar to that used with the FFMA 6 meter
award. I contacted the person who created the FFMA map with the data and,
after he spent some time perusing the numbers, he determined that much more
data would be required. Incidentally, he used proprietary software to create
the FFMA map.

As far as I know nothing further has been done.

PCSAT was also launched out of Kodiak back in 2001 into a 61
degree orbit. Since the inclination of an orbit is optimally
defined by the launch location, then, the FASTRACK orbit will
possibly be similar to PCSAT's as a first approximation.

So if you just want to see what the orbit is like, then look at
PCSAT (NO44).

Hi Michael!

The gridmaps on K8YSE's website are a good indicator of what grids are
rare/not so rare on the birds. I would obviously not go based upon my
gridmaps on there, but someone like K8YSE, KO4MA, WD9EWK and N5AFV who have
been around awhile, if you see a common grid that has not been worked on
their gridmaps, you can bet it is a rare grid on the birds. Here is the
link just in case you don't have it:

Hello AMSAT-NA and AMSAT-DC,

I have been requested to spread the word to the amateur community for
the O/OREOS 3U cubesat to be launched this Friday on a Minotaur IV
from Kodiak Island, relayed from Dr. Pascale Ehrenfreund of The George
Washington University, Space Policy Institute.

AX.25 437.305 MHz Beacon decoding information:
http://beacon.engr.scu.edu/BeaconProcessingSystem/OOREOSBeaconDecoding.pdf

If you are able to capture the beacon telemetry, please take the time
to file a report at http://beacon.engr.scu.edu/Submission.aspx which
is an interface to the Beacon Data Processing System.

The O/OREOS project is co-sponsored by Santa Clara University, Ohlone
College and NASA

Note the same system is used for reporting beacon data from GeneSat,
PharmaSat and NanoSail-D.

I am interested to hear about your attempts, and discuss the results,

Good Morning!

I'm proud to say that the combined ARISSat-1 and FOX fundraising effort
has gathered 690 dollars over the last 24 hours! Donations have been
received from all over the globe, both from inside, and outside, of
normal AMSAT circles.

The real potential in these two campaigns is being able to reach out to
those outside of the normal AMSAT circles, and allow them to quickly and
painlessly donate via PayPal. Donations may be any size, and we have
received anywhere from $10 to $250 from individual donors.

To make this campaign really successful, we need -your- help, whether
you can donate or not. Please visit the links below and either "share"
the Facebook link to your wall, or on the PayPal widget, click "Add to
Site" and include the code on your website, blog, or even just your QRZ
entry. Everyone on this list has at least one place they can post the
widget, and help AMSAT raise money for ARISSat-1 and FOX.

We just played with the elements for PCSAT and changed the
inclination to 72 degrees and mean motion until we got 650km
and then adjusted RAAN until we got the orbit over Kodiak, and
then changed the EPOC time until we got the satellite over
Kodiak at launch time.

Here are the elements we ended up with:
 Epoc 11/19/2010 04:30 UTC
 MA 140
 MM 14.7
 Inc 72
 E .0018
 AP 16.08
 RAAN 130

Based on a launch at 01:24 UTC on the 20th, the first pass in
range of Hawaii and California, will be in minutes and probably
the satellite will not have separated or be activated. But a
half orbit later, the first ground stations will be Eastern
Europe. Then a descending pass over Hawaii at T + 100 minutes
and then Central Europe about 3 hours after launch followed by
Japan and New Zealand. The next pass is over Europe Japan and
NZ again, Not until almost 9 hours later will we see it on the
east coast.

All of these first 3 passes in the Northern Hemisphere begin
about 4 AM through 7:30 AM local time. New Zealand passes are
in the Afternoon.

All of the above can be TOTALLY Wrong and groundless if our
assumptions are wrong.

Bob, WB4APR
