Hi folks,
tonight for the first time i heard SO-67
and with difficult I could work TA7OM.
Checking the frequencies on the Amsa.org site,
I can read that on the uplink I have to use
FM NARROW.
I own a ts-790E and would like to know how to set the FM NARROW
Or do I need a filter?
If I need a filter what it is the name?
Thanks in advance

Has anyone successfully used the HRD rotator program to drive the LVB
tracker? Is so, what rotator listing in the HRD rotator list did you use?

Hi Merle,

LVB uses GS-232 protocol. Refer to http://www.g6lvb.com/Articles/LVBTracker/

Hope this helps

I have received Satellite WAS #323 from ARRL.
And I am jazzed. My first contact was on 11-6-2009,

I have needed help in this pursuit, and have been

Hi Enzo,

I have a TS-790A. As far I can tell and remember, only CW mode on the MAIN
band offers a choice of "narrow."

I think about the best you can do is keep the microphone gain low and see if
that helps.

First of all: thanks to everyone who replied, on-list or off, for all the
helpful comments, kind welcomes, and offers for skeds. What a great group!

Early yesterday evening I listened for a pass of AO-51 and then another one
of the FM birds, forget which. (I had only planned on the first, but the
second came overhead almost immediately afterwards while I was still
outside.) Again, didn't hear anything. I had to give up on working sats
for the day after that; it was time for my weekly poker group.

Tonight I got home from work too late for any passes (well, at least ones
>12 degrees of elevation). But I noticed a few things:

* the SWR of the 70cm section was really high. I don't have any absolute
measurements -- the only SWR "meter" I have good at 70cm is the one built in
to the FT817ND -- but it was practically full scale.
* occasionally it jumped down and then back up if I shook the antenna.

So I desoldered the coax. Then I noticed I hadn't gotten the dimensions of
the driven element quite right -- I had bent the brass rod into a tighter
corner than WA5VJB specifies -- about 3/4" instead of 1". So I bent and
un-bent and re-bent things for a while until I wound up much closer to 1".

After I re-soldered, I'm now seeing 0 bars of SWR on the '817 in the
vicinity of 435MHz. Hopefully this was the issue, and not just *a* issue...

My full setup is:
FT817ND with internal battery
poorly-constructed WA5VJB yagi, 2el on 2m, 4el on 70cm, elements made of
brass hobby rod and each band mounted perpendicular (Arrow-style)
no diplexer, just using both antenna ports on the 817. (May soon try 817+HT
for full-duplex.)
on an Android phone: HamSatDroid for tracking, Compass app, and Voice
Recorder

vy 73! and thanks again!

I'm really hankering to make some satellite contacts ASAP. Looks like the
last workable pass of the evening over my location is for SO-50 at 23:42
EST, or 04:42 UTC. Looks like a nice pass, 60+ degrees max elevation. I'll
be giving it a shot.

Rick and Jeremy, I cc'd you because you offered a sked. Sorry for the late
notice! If you can't make this time, don't worry at all -- I'll be trying
again over the weekend, and will give more than an hour's heads-up next
time. And Rick, I *think* the first few minutes of the pass has you in the
footprint, but I'm not sure.

Thanks again, all! & 73

All,

I plan to operate from DN24,25,34,35 starting with the AO27 pass at
1950Z on November13, 2010. I will operate AO27, SO50, AO51. HO68 may be in
FM mode on Sunday. There is a possibility I will be operating on some
earlier passes on November 13 depending on travel time. I wil try and
operate some passes on November 14 starting with AO51 at 1247Z. I will be
in DN35 first, then try and operate from the gridline of DN24/34 and
finally, in DN25. I may operate some from DN36 also.

Wow ! It worked!

This time the only thing holding me back was lack of operator skill. Jerry
W0SAT was on SO-50. I know he copied at least my suffix and my grid square.
Unfortunately I don't think we managed to complete a QSO -- I lost the
satellite while it was directly overhead and never heard my signal report.

What a rush. I'll definitely be on the birds tomorrow.

Congrats! Yes that first contact is a rush without a doubt! I just started
myself little more than a month ago, and the rush is still there! Biggest
rush thus far for me was the ISS crew contact using simplex, to Col Doug
Wheelock. Hope to hear you on the birds soon! I'll be working passes as I
can as well this weekend.

In my reference to my thread of last month concerning what folks were using
for
AO-7 Mode A RX antennas (29.45mhz), just about everyone had a different type,
from CB mobile whips to Cubical Quads. In my quest to build something simple,
that I hoped would fit my property footprint, I came up with a Vertical Wire
Dipole, housed inside some PVC which is mounted against the wooden property
fence. This antenna has seemed to work fairly well, and I've had numerous
contacts using it. It seems to fit my bill and wallet also. No preamp is
used
at the antenna, which I am sure would/could help some, as only feeding this
antenna with 50' of RG-58/u coax to the FT-847 transceiver. I have noticed
that
sometimes I hear the other station quite well, whereas I just barely can
hear my
own signal coming back on the downlink. I really think this is due to my
uplink
antenna which consists of just a single Arrow with the 2m elements in the
horizontal plane. Unknown if it would improve if vertical, but too it could
be
a problem from RH to LH polarization, which I noticed when I still had my
KLM's
(which I should have never let go....). Anyway, for those looking for an easy
downlink Mode A antenna, this vertical seems to fit the bill, at least for me.
