Hi all,

Playing with some log book software I found online through DXZone and other
sources. Nothing so far seems to be geared, or even suited to satellite
work, meaning; They all have one frequency field, few have satellite as a
propagation, few track grids and states worked, etc.

What I'm hoping to find is a log book that's Satellite and Earth-Earth
friendly that'll track VUCC, WAS, and misc other awards (even if I must add
them and parameters myself) and that'll allow me a Tx and Rx frequency field
along with Satellite prop and which bird worked and integration with LotW
and eQSL would be nice. (I know, I may be asking a bit much H-I)

Google is a bit over whelming and time consuming to sift through, download,
trial, and ultimately uninstall each piece of software I find.

So what do you all use? I'm open to suggestions as I'm sure this may help
others who are curious.

All,
I am planning on an activation of DM16 and DM17 in Death Valley
for Nov 15, 16 and 17. The plan is to be at Furnace Creek, DM16, for
passes in the afternoon of Nov 15 and possibly early Nov 16 passes as
well. Then off to the north end of the valley to Ubehebe crater (DM17)
for the afternoon of DM17. Then some possible morning passes again on
Nov 17 back at Furnace Creek (DM16). I expect to be on the FM birds
HO68 and SO50 and on the linear birds AO7 and VO52. QSL to my home QTH.

Try the DXLab Suite: http://dxlabsuite.com/

I can't address EME, but it can be configured for satellite operations, and
correctly supports both LotW and eQSL for satellites. Support is excellent.
In addition to a log, it also handles spotting, has a module for working
RTTY, some of the PSK modes, etc. However, you can use as much or as little
as needed, and it is very customizable. I figure I use about 10%. It is
also completely free.

Jeremy,

I downloaded the HRD (Ham Radio Deluxe) logbook, and I have been using it
for about a month now. It is completely customizable, geared toward
satellite users, and its FREE!!! You can download it here:

I too have been using HRD, use it for digi modes in local simplex groups
here in York, PA. My only issue is the single frequency field. Which isn't
Terrible and works fine for logging. Was hoping for dual frequency fields to
track my Doppler shifting, etc. I'll check out some other recommendations.

Thanks to all! Gave me a few avenues to explore.

Sorry my call is N8GBU I'm a general class but do to health issues I haven't
been able to operate for several years. I'm located in Toledo, Ohio. I'm
basically stuck on what antenna's or antenna to buy. For home use....I have
Arrows satellite antenna that fits on a tripod and an H.T. to go with it. I
have the Yaesu I believe 5500 rotator that is used for satellites. I plan to
assemble everything on the ground until next year as the rotator is so
heavy I want to make sure everything works and redo everything in the spring.

A little more background. I have always wanted to receive weather satellite
images since I was a teenager. I made the Dayton trip and with the help of a
friend I was able to cover a lot. I was intrigued by the ARRL's exhibit and
talked to staff there which changed the way I viewed satellites. I always
thought they were pretty good size. I then went to the AMSAT booth asked
questions there and bought a book they recommended. I joined AMSAT when I
got home and bought a few more publications and the tracking software.
That's when the confusion started..lol

Alan BA1DU et al,

While monitoring HO-68 with my RFSpace SDR-IP on the 20:57 UTC pass
tonight at the lower end of the passband I was very surprised to see
what looked like a FM signal. After tuning in I am able to hear
someone with what sounds like an English accent! It was definitley
coming from the satellite, as it was affected by the same doppler
shift as the SSB signals coming from it.

It sounds like the users in question have no idea they are causing
QRM, they certainly aren't calling satellite, however do sound like
amateurs and not pirates or commercial traffic. Taking doppler into
account on the downlink, I calculate that the users were transmitting
around about 145.925MHz

Did anyone else notice this?

I have an IQ recording, if anyone is interested in having a look I
could try to shrink it small enough to send - there are no callsigns
at any time during the short 5 minute recording. Also, my receive
antenna doesn't currently track, so the signal is quite weak for most
of the pass.

      I have the N3FJP program. I changed the "Other 2" column/tab to
"SAT", and I simply put in a "Y" if the contact is a sat contact. ( I
put the sat name in "other".

Is there a way under awards to see how many grid squares I have
worked under the qualifier of a "Y" in the SAT column?

I will second the motion. DXLab has been a great one for me, it has a
lot of flexibility for satellites plus terrestrial contacts.
