I may be hated for this but I have to ask, if you make a contact and you
get the call wrong so you would not get a QSL card because you can't mail
the right person is it really fair to use another medium to search out the
correct call in order to secure the contact for award reasons? I always
thought the QSO had to be a successful exchange of at least the call signs
over the air to count as a contact. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In my opinion you are 100% correct. Make a second contact to make it legit.
If you just want to find the right call for your own reasons or to arrange
another contact, cool. If you want to use the busted QSO for an award, not
cool.

I have an Icom Z1A dualband (2m/70cm) HT for sale that does full duplex,
making it perfect for the FM satellites. It is pretty much like the Icom
W32A with one exception-you can remote mount the faceplate. That's right,
it is like a mobile rig in that you can remote mount the face! It comes
with the remote mount cable, and the display, keypad, mic, and speaker
separate from the body of the HT so you have a speaker/mic in your had with
the display and keypad. It also has the Icom dualband antenna with it
(using a BNC connector for those of you who hate SMAs), a MAHA NiMH 9.6 volt
battery for 5 watts out, and the manual. The battery will hold a charge but
I can't guarantee for how long. I don't have the wall charger for it, but
do have an Icom CP12 cigarette lighter cord, but this is missing the fuse
and the metal tip on the end. You can replace the end, cut the end off and
use it as a DC cord, and I will throw in a replacement cigarette lighter
plug you can wire into it also.

The HT will do dual receive, including dual receive on the same band. It is
in good shape physically and works fine.

I am asking $125 plus shipping for this HT. I can take
paypal/check/MO/Cash.

You are completely right Jerry, an exchange of call signs and acknowledge from
both stations is needed for a successful QSO, but we need to keep in mind
that satellite contacts are performed on tight time period and the signals
from the birds are not all the time clear enough to copy 100%, as you
get experience working on the sats you familiarize with most of the every
day operators and then you began relaying on equipment like a recorder that
help you analyze the audio and if you were not able to copy the call at the
time you contacted that station you probably will have a better reception of
that station on another QSO going on, but we all were inexperienced
operators once and missed a couple of call because of that reason, a little
help is always of great support and we all can give new station the
opportunity to enjoy this wonderful hobby.

Does anyone know Sean Larkin, KC0MCX? His address on
qrz.com is listed in Denver, Colorado, however, when I
worked him on the Lake Superior Grid Expedition on 4 August,
he gave his grid square as EM63. Mail to his qrz.com address
comes back (no longer at this address). Please reply offline.
Thanks.
