My impression of the 'simulate' feature of Orbitron was that it would
automatically retrieve the old keps..... At least it never gave the the
option of using the old. Maybe I imagined it better than it is. Could an
Orbitron guru correct me?

I checked against http://iss.astroviewer.net/. Today issue is better,
however, still actual ISS posn about 100 miles ahead of SatPC32's
displayed posn. My computer clock is off by no more than 1 second. For
the clock to throw posn off by 100 miles, clock would need to be in
error by about 15 seconds.

Hi Frank,

I used the keps from January 2009 and set the PC clock to this date - it was
HAMSAT VO-52.
AO-7 was near Australia at this time.

Just create an account at http://www.space-track.org/ and download the keps
from there. I just logged into Space Track, and they have an ISS element
set that was updated at approximately 2053 UTC today (not long before I sent
this message).

Regardless of the freshness of the elements, it sometimes takes a
little bit before
after the ISS has a boost raising its orbit to where the keps are back
to being on
the mark.

Which begs the question, where can one find archived keps? AMSAT does not
archive the KEPS mailing list, so unless someone on here is a subscriber and
has keps bulletins from that far back, where else can you look?

If it's like every other tracking program I've ever used, it overwrites the
old keps each time you update it. You're not given the option to use the
old ones because they're not there anymore.

Aa a matter of fact, I have Keps going back several years, because I
tend to archive my mail. Might be useful for historical studies like
the one in this thread.

If someone needs them, I have keps from 2005 up to recent. I have ARRL
keps starting with March of 2005 and Amsat starting with April of 2005.

 by satellite number,
then specify the date or date range instead of taking the latest set or the
last 5 sets. Very useful for something like this.

If you are interested in the AMSAT sets specifically, or don't want to sign
up for a Space Track account, the weekly sets from the AMSAT KEPS
list are archived since August 2006 when AMSAT moved to new mailing-
list software. Go to:

Hi Stan,

No, it's for sure not an M2. The boom is about 9' or 10' long, and the
driven element is a simple dipole. The reflector element in the back is
split, with two dipoles, one above and one below the boom. Coax connector
is at the rear of the boom.

The pointiness of the antenna is not too bad. My rotor is good to 6 degrees
(that's the clicker increment), and the one beacon I can barely hear way off
in the distance can be heard +/- about 2 clicks.

In terrestrial work, I lose 3db going circular to linear, so the net
difference is going to be about 6dB. Not trivial, but not "wow" either.
The helix is a lot smaller of an antenna, too, thinking of wind load and such.

The ISS did some thruster tests recently. That could account for the
difference. ISS is a dynamic satellite. It has minor and major changes to
its orbit and the "predicts" are sometime a bit behind the actual until
things fall into a more stable state and get updated. I expect the numbers
will be off again after the Soyuz undock today (tomorrow UTC).

Just create an account at http://www.space-track.org/ and download the keps
from there. I just logged into Space Track, and they have an ISS element
set that was updated at approximately 2053 UTC today (not long before I sent
this message).

Regardless of the freshness of the elements, it sometimes takes a little
bit after the ISS has a boost raising its orbit to where the keps are back
to being on the mark.

the gear back to the pot shaft when I can get the
pot in the right location. I don't want to accidently run to rotor and keep
going at the end of the pot.

The original 500 ohm pot can rotate all around for more than 360 degrees
and the center pot wiper of the new model of rotators has a flexible wire
outside the case of the pot to provide a safe contact inside of it !

  Hi Bob, W7LRD

The diameter of each ball for the bearing of a KR500 is 0.312" or 5 / 16
  inch
or 7.9375 mm. I suggest you to remove both stainless steel bearing holders
throw it away and add 2 or 3 more balls in each bearing in order to replace
the room of the holders teeth. I did it but I do not remember exactly if I
added 2 or 3 more balls. Fill the bearing wrinkles of the rotor housing with
black dense molibdene grease and pull the balls in it.It works very well for
  me from many years now.
