Hi EU satellite users,

Plan is for the following orbits to be active:

Europe 13 August UTC

08:31

10:05

17:44

Time is in UTC.

It is normally active for 15 min.

The times are turn on times.

Todays experience is that you do not need the CTCSS tone to

work through SO-67.

Higher priority jobs may take over.

Gang

I shall shortly be selling an IC-1271E 23cm all-mode rig and a SOTA linear
amp (uses a 2C39). Will probably sell in UK only.

Trouble is ... I'm unsure what price to ask, any clues would be appreciated.

John I was able to work him on 8/2/10 1716 UTC on HO-68 FM Mode, he is in
EK34 Tegucigalpa Honduras but I think he is fro Japan. Is great to have a
station there who operates amateur satellites.

I have worked him before, think his name is "YOSY" and
he does QSL. And I think the grid is EK64.
EK-34 is not in Honduras.

Hello everyone,

This 'breaking news' will be too late if we wait for this weekend's ANS news
cycle so here's a heads up now ...

>From the ARLD032 DX news:

UNITED STATES, WC5C. Members of the Tri-County Amateur Radio Club
(WC5C) will once again activate Pelican Island (TX050L) on August
14, starting at 1400z. Pelican Island is an uninhabited island on
Eagle Mountain Lake in North Central Texas. The club members make
an adventure of it, getting to the Island by kayak, canoe and
various other water craft. Activity will be typically 40, 20, 15
and 10 meters. Modes are usually CW and SSB, sometimes satellite FM
and PSK31. QSL info is available on QRZ.com.

I have been trying to figure out my grid location and have came up with
different solutions for the last two letters. What is the most accurate way
to figure this out? I went to Hamcall I think the sites called, they have me
in the wrong area code for my phone number and conflicts with the grid. I
live in point place a suburb of Toledo,Ohio roughly a mile from Michigan
State line and very close to Lake Erie !

Here's a decent one. Just enter your main grid square at the bottom then
scroll through and look for your home QTH address. Alternatively if you have
an Android phone or iPhone they have apps that use the GPS to tell you your
grid square.

First Mike, you are in EN81gq, per QRZ.com, and second you dont need the
last 2
letters for giving out grid locations on satellites, just the EN81, as we dont
care where you are located to within 100 ft, hi.... Welcome to satellites, as
it will be addictive once you get into it.

How much money do you want to spend is the first question! A couple of
short linear yagis like the M2 starter series, a used tv rotor, some
good coax like LMR400, and a UHF preamp will allow you to work the
majority of what there is to be worked. Assuming you bought this all
new, maybe $400 or less.

AMSAT's "Getting Started" book is something you ought to read before
making any big plunge. See http://www.amsat-na.com/store/item.php?id=100166

Mike,

Yaesu G5500 with Gulf Alpha 8?8 UHF and 5?5 VHF work well for me.

I know a bunch of people that will bash Gulf Alpha for super long wait times
for delivery, but Pete builds great antennas.
