On a sort-of-positive note, Interorbital Systems' website shows that they
currently have an open CubeSat slot on their December launch, at only
$12,500. Unfortunately, it is only to a 310 kM orbit. A future launch will
carry payloads to 600 kM. No price listed for that launch yet...

A while ago we had an extended discussion on -bb about the benefits of
being able to twist your Arrow (or Elk) for max signal on either receive
or transmit via satellite. Today I took a quick video with my phone
(ha!) illustrating the differences in polarity. This was at the tail end
of an AO-51 pass, with the satellite below 10 degrees. The downlink is
the UHF half of an Arrow, 10 feet of high quality coax, and a Yaesu FT-817.

Could we have "something" sitting on the shelf for such sort notice
occurrences?? I am not privy to the exhaustive red tape that must surely
exist.? I am most likely over simplifying the process.? Back in my corner.

Hi George.

I watched the Interorbital presentation at Cal Poly at the weekend. (via
the web and not in person sadly)

I thought I saw $25,000 on a multiple cubesat launch to 620km.
Perhaps they have an eye on the QB50 (50 cubesats to 320km) and others
waiting to fly. It's a big market.

They are starting testing this fall with some sub orbital flights. First
orbital flight listed for March 2011 but that may slip depending on the
tests.

The presentation is probably available via u-stream / or cubesat.com

Thanks

The last couple of passes that I have tried seemed to start well - I hear
stations using the repeater - but then some sort of digital signal takes

done by the ground controllers?

I'm trying to find a concise report of the conference, or a better video
recording host website.. or better still, did anyone from Amsat attend the
conference, and would you share your conference experience please?

With regard to Interorbital Systems, did they give a presentation at this
conference?

During the first and last minutes of a pass over North America, AO-27 is in
Digital Mode; all you will hear is packet. In-between is when the AO-27 is
in Analog FM mode.
Check out http://www.ao27.org for more information.

Hi Bob,

I think you are new to the satellites, since I haven't heard you on the
birds yet.
Welcome to the fun world of sat's.

Now to your question. AO-27 is on a timer sequence, 20 seconds of digital
 - then 7 minutes of voice - then back to 1 full minute of digital - then
off.

You may be hearing it switch back to digital mode at the end of the 7 minute
repeater mode. Just my guess. There are you
the
times for the daily passes. One of them,
http://www.ao27.org/AO27/listing.shtml
is currently about ten minutes off. (late) Another one you may want to
check out is
http://sites.google.com/site/ao27satellitescheduler/ a program you can
download
and use on the daily bases.

I hope this helps and we all will look for you in the future.

73,
Rick WA4NVM

Bob,

That is normal. The voice period is bracketed with telemetry bursts. It is
all done by timer.

A private aircraft carrying a former head of NASA and, possibly, a former
U.S. senator crashed Monday night in a rugged stretch of Alaska. The
accident left at least five people dead.

EADS North America said its chief executive officer, Sean O'Keefe, a former
head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, was a passenger
on the aircraft.

Developing story.
