Input needed...

I really love the 'satellite' feature on my TS 2000 and I'd be lost without
it.

But, we know the TS 2000 is not known for good VHF/UHF receive qualities.
And there is the birdie issue.

So, is there another base/mobile radio with the same 'satellite' feature and
that has much better receive capabilities. I would prefer a current model
radio or at least a recent vintage.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Damon,

If you were on AO-51 this afternoon/early evening, the callsign was K8E. We
are in
EN57 (Eagle Harbor, Michigan) for the week and are planning to travel up to
EN67
one day this week. It's supposed to rain on Monday, so that may be out.

I am using two HTs and an Arrow Antenna. I don't use FM sats that often, so
I take
it SO-50 and AO-51 are my best choices, since HO-68 is in SSB/CW mode this
week.

QSL via N8MR, if you want to confirm.

73,
Mike, N8MR

Correction - HO-68 will be in FM/PACSAT mode all week. To those who
have more experience with FM sats - what are my chances of making
any QSOs with HTs (5 watts max) and an Arrow antenna?

Hi Mike, maybe I'm reading the HO 68 schedule wrong, but it says FM/PACSAT
all week (the schedule that came out at 10:17am today)

Your chances are very good Mike and HO-68 is an easy one to hear.

Don't forget AO-27.

I plan on being in DN42ca again early Tuesday morning and I hope to be
able to work AO51 again for those of you who need that grid.
Afterwards I will spend the rest of the day helping my son build his
house just across the Idaho/Utah line in DN41. In the afternoon I might
get a chance to go back to DN42 and work an evening pass.

Thought you might like the heads up.

Hi Rick and everyone else who sent advoce on HO-68. I'll try that satellite
this
week and see what happens. Hopefully I can put a new grid or two in a few
logs.

UO-22 was launched on 17 July 1991. It's now Non-Operational.
I predict here that UO-22 might be passed over just 100000 of
the orbit number using the latest TLE.

OSCAR 22 (UoSAT 5)
1 21575U 91050B 10212.53322685 .00000036 00000-0 25462-4 0 8963
2 21575 098.4959 161.9541 0006690 228.5705 131.4898 14.39726937999601

  100000 - 99960 = 40 ... orbit numbers until 100000
  40/14.39726937 = 2.778304619 ... orbits/mean motion = days
  212.53322685 + 2.778304619 = 215.311531469 ... epock time

  215 - 212 = 3 ... 3rd Aug 2010
  0.311531469 * 24 = 7.476755256 ... 7 hours
  0.476755256 * 60 = 28.60531536 ... 28 minutes
  0.605315360 * 60 = 36.31892160 ... 36 seconds

Therefore it is 07:28:36 UTC, 3rd Aug 2010.

It maybe contains +/- one and a half hour's obserbational lag.
In addition, the counter number returns to 0 when the orbit number
exceeds 100000.
